I’m sure he’s well aware. Don’t rub it in on a nice Thursday morning.

Menzo, tell us you’ve at least passed along the general preference for GOG to your new superawesome and totally savvy president.

:( I wish there was something we could do about it. We’re trying.

I see that MDK and MDK 2 are now up on Steam, for $9.99 each (plus $1 off for a short while). Funny that they’re cheaper on GOG, not to mention that a bunch of folks probably picked both of them up during the anniversary sale.

Well, Steam has a much bigger audience than GoG currently.

I sure hope that changes, as I prefer GoG muuuuuuuuuuuuch more than Steam. ^_^

Well GoG is better in every way…but they started so late :(
But damn do I wish they would release those SW games there.I want my music in JK : /.

Yeah, GoG is definitely a whole lot better than Steam. It’s not just the "no DRM’ policy (though I appreciate that, too), but the care they put into giving you a complete package, the extras (soundtracks, wallpapers), and so on. With Steam lately, it seems like you are lucky to even get a manual, whether the game is brand new (Section 8) or classic (Majesty Gold). I’ve been a proponent of Steam in the past, but that’s some pretty shitty service. How hard is it to include a PDF with every game?

Steam has a client. Every DD service needs a client.

Another reason GoG rocks our socks

However, how many times has Steam withdrawn a game Vs. GoG?

Apparently the trouble with Jedi Knight and MOTS has to do with DirectX 10 graphic cards, because I have a GeForce 8800 GTS 512Mo (DX9 card), and both games run perfectly - I have the original CDs. 1920x1080, 3D acceleration, no bugs, full HUD, etc.

That, or the Steam version is crappy.

No, mandatory client that takes up time and computer memory and is otherwise useless when you are not into community features is not that great. In steam case I tolerate it, but am not too happy about it and much prefer Gogs simple “next, next, finish” package that runs by itself.

Plus, GOG already has downloader client (OPTIONAL) which they continue to improve

Actually, your graphics is DX10, as is every other GF8800.

And for me, with GTX 280, Jedi Knight also runs without problems (except for those cutscenes in MOTS case). It is more of a ATi problem.

edit - oh and Prodigy, does the music work with your cd copies? Did you try to make iso out of them and try if music works when it is just mounter in daemon tools or something?

It has nothing to do with the community features. If I’m buying a game online, I expect it to download, install, and patch itself. GoG’s niche means patching shouldn’t be an issue, but I hope to never again see an installer.

I agree with this completely. I know it’s not 100% essential, but I really like this part of Steam.

That’s just you man. I’m really glad I don’t have 5+ clients running on my machine. I don’t mind the Steam or Impulse clients, but I’m sure glad GOG, D2D, and GG just has you downloading the setup files.

Really ? Well, thanks for the info…

Yes it works, although the music tends to stop after a while. I did not try to mount the CDs, sorry.

Majesty Gold comes with a PDF manual. It’s on the Games page for said game. (view the manual)

Section 8 also has it’s manual available on its game page.

So there.

The 90s called, they want their issue back.

Thanks for the info.

Yeah I know memory is supercheap today, but still, why should I have running a client when it is not necesarry…nah.Personal preference.

I’m no software businessman but I’m sure there are support and development costs to building and maintaining a client. I like GOG’s price points as they are.

But it sounds like there’s still room in the market for more download services if people haven’t found exactly what they like.
