I downloaded 65 games from gog and never had a single corruption or problem. But I know there were some people on their forums that reported something similar…I think it was software related, maybe something with firewall.

Yeah, I’ve never had a problem ordering from them before either. It also just occurred to me that I just recently switched anti-virus software, so maybe that’s a factor also.

Divine Divinity is now up on GoG. I’m almost tempted to get it just for nostalgia’s sake.

I tried to replay it about a year ago or so, and it kept crashing. Maybe the GoG version is what I need. I was running it from the original disk, and it may have compatibility issues or something. Still, Torchlight just came out, and I’ve bought it but haven’t played it yet, so I’ll probably wait on getting back into a game like DD. Great game though. Shouldn’t the sequel be coming out soon?

Anyone know if DD will run OK on W7-64?

I didn’t actually play it for any length of time, but I did successfully install and start it on Win7-x64 when I was testing various games, so there’s no problem with copy protection, at least (with the original disc version).

bad timing in DDs part, i would definitely pick that up if Dragon Age wasn’t just around the corner waiting to eat all my time.

Does not compute.

The Divinity stuff on GOG is remastered – allows for higher resolutions and XP/Vista compatibility.

Was the original limited in screen resolution, 1280x1024 or something? It has to scale the sprites, right?

The original release supports high resolution widescreen with an ini file edit. It’s pixel-based, so it just keeps drawing pixels until it runs out of room, with no scaling. Here’s an example screenshot from the original release, 1920x1200:

I’m guessing that GOG just made the option available in game and (maybe?) fixed a few related bugs.

Err yeah I meant not scaling. Got it.

Yes! Bought div div. Best action RPG ever!

Picked up DivDiv. Works great on W7-64. They included a Config utility (in the Start menu) to pick higher resolutions.

I bought DD last night and had a few minutes to install it before I came into work this morning. It looks like they have altered the game to scale at higher resolutions, or at least that was my conclusions based on the 3 or 4 minutes I played. My monitor was definitely running at 1920x1080, but I wasn’t getting the huge view distance, which is too bad since I was kind of looking forward to that. It also looks like the aspect ratio is getting skewed, but I could be wrong about that, it’s been a long time since I’ve played this.

I have bought it on gog despite having dvd version, I set it to 19201200 and no problems, but everything is very small and you can see much more than normally, but it is so small that I will play it in 16801050, which is better compromise.

I picked up Gothic and Gothic 2 last week, and then (re-bought) Morrowind and Oblivion to compare (had played those on the Xbox, not on PC).

Gothic 2 has a nice feel, but man am I glad I didn’t pay full price for it. It’s more fast-moving than Morrowind, but is fuck-all confusing on 36 different levels. The user interface is an abomination against God and Man, and it has a difficulty curve that isn’t friendly to newcomers. There’s no minimap by default (although you can “buy” one by spending fucking gold that you don’t fucking have at fucking precisely the fucking time in the fucking game that you need the fucking map the most.) On the plus side, the overall plot is more interesting than Morrowind or Oblivion, and the script feels better written (even with the translation issues). The dialogue feels more Bioware-like, if that makes sense. At least in the early parts of the game I’m in (around Khorinis), the world doesn’t feel as open as Morrowind or Oblivion. That may change later.

To give you an idea of the issues with the game, I’m playing it with a walkthrough open on the laptop next to me and I’m still confused about character builds. And everyone assures me that with NoTR installed, if you don’t “worry” about character builds early on, you’ll be screwed in the endgame. [expletive deleted]. I have also reloaded way the hell more in this game than in almost any other I’ve played.

That being said, there are a few axes on which it’s better than the Bethesda games. Loot feels like it ‘matters’ more. Armor and weapons make a huge difference here, and I mean HUGE. The game is engineered for third-person mode, so you don’t get the stupid Bethesda “watch your character skate around 2 inches above the ground” thing.

Summary: worth $7, if you have the time to play it. Nice engine, shame about the UI, overall gameplay feels unpolished and utterly unbalanced. Clearly not playtested by real people who weren’t already familiar with the system.

Reported.

Was cursing outlawed at Qt3 when I wasn’t looking? Seriously, if it’s against the rules I’m happy to redact my post, but I don’t think I said anything beyond the pale here.

I think he was joking.
