Google Chrome star map

This just fell into my lap - man its awesome! Basically, its a visualization of 100.000 stars, where you can zoom in on and see some information about some of the individual stars.

It seems to be a work in progress, but its kinda neat to see what we usually see in scifi movies become accessible like this.

Wow, that’s awesome. I had no idea Polaris was a 5-star cluster.

That is very cool. Is it possible to search for specific stars? Wiki says Polaris could be 434 ly away and the farther you zoom out the harder it is to make out the names.

Never mind, if you align our solar system plane and zoom out you’ll see it way the hell out there and if you keep zooming out you’ll see our alignment in relation to the galactic plane. Neato.
