Grading President Obama

Michael Hogan of Vanity Fair graded President Obama’s first full day in office, based on the six major issues dealt with.

  1. Halting the military tribunal process at Guantánamo Bay.
  2. Phoning Arab leaders to discuss the Mideast situation.
  3. Freezing salaries for senior White House staffers and implementing semi-strict guidelines to stop the K Street revolving door.
  4. Embracing openness and an end to “secrecy.”
  5. Meeting with top military advisers to plan the Iraq drawdown and the reboot of the Afghanistan war.
  6. Convening his economic advisers to discuss the stimulus.

Ninety-nine more days to go…

and that was all before breakfast.

Tomorrow, MANDATORY SAVE ANYWHERE.

Ninety-nine more days to go…

Until what?

Until they can start writing books on the Obama legacy.

His first 100 days.

Tomorrow: PC DRM outlawed!

Contact your representative now!

We’re two days into the administration and my health care isn’t state sponsored.

His first 100 days.

Oh. Is this just some arbitrary thing someone has concocted or are the first 100 days a significant milestone or something?

It’s been a traditional milestone for a while.

As I understand from watching the West Wing, the first hundred days are also sort of considered the only time the President gets to do anything. Pretty soon he has to start thinking about the midterms and then re-election and etcetera. Truth? Poetic license?

As bahimiron linked, it’s a tradition from FRDs first term.

Wow, that’s kinda depressing. I hope that’s mostly artistic license.

Both.

H.

Admittedly I skimmed the Wikipedia article, but it seems to indicate that a lot of stuff happened during that 100 days but doesn’t really go into why the number “100” is significant in any way. But, I guess the depression and the current collapse lead to links being drawn between FDR and Obama so I can see where it would make a decent framework to hang a series of articles.

It’s nice and round. Easy to remember. Aesthetically pleasing, too. You can fit it snugly in a box.

Is the honeymoon over yet??

That’s why I said ‘also’.

I can’t believe ditching the BCS for a playoff system didn’t get time on day 1. I’m retracting my vote.
