It looks like i could start up a game with my Banshee (Demon Hunter/Spirit) so Im tempted to carry on using Grimarillion.

Fired up my level 84. Cleared initial expansion area and first dungeon in Elite. Got a legendary dagger made for Oathkeeper…

Without spoilers, the first part is an ode to Diablo II and I just love it.

As soon as I read this, this popped right into my head:

I decided to go with a sword and board Oathbreaker/Soldier (Warlord), and was doing the beginning few quests when I realized there are so many shield related skills I need to stop the game and take a good look at everything. No idea where I am going with this character.

So I guess this is all I am playing for the next month or two…

I’ve tried three toons so far, and so far the dual-pistoled Inquisitor appeals to me most. What’s the pet class in the game? Necromancer?

Necro is a good base for a pet class yah, can pair with occultist pretty well for super pets, or with shaman for more healing and damage over time

Necro allows you to go 2 different styles of pet class. Mass bodies (I.E. Skeleton+ approach) or the quality pet. Usually you will go with Occultist if you go with the quality pets since Binding of Bysmiel is so good.

As soon as I find/repgrind enough for the potion that lets you start on Ultimate Level 1 will full unlocks I’ll be playing a Dervish.

If you like having your pets lay waste to everything around you as you just walk around the place, then I recommend The Night King. It’s amaaaazing. On that page he also goes into when you should put points into which skills, and which weapons you should use along the way. It’s really detailed and well explained.

My only complaint with that build was that it worked too well. I had to take a break from the game because no other classes I tried killed stuff as fast as that build. I was literally walking around as monsters died around me. I was playing hardcore, so eventually I did die, but that’s because I got cocky and tried going after the Spider Queen that’s a hidden boss in the game.

I’m sure mentioned before but if you want more content…

Thanks guys!

When you get to the expension zone. There is one normal vendor that has that stone for 125000 iron bits. No rep needed.
There is also a guy that sells/buys iron bar, it lets you transfer money between characters.

I started my new oathkeeper lvl 1 on ultimate. Its pretty cool!

Yeah, my Purifier (Inquisitor/Demolitionist) is the most fun I’ve had with the game, though in fairness I think my Arcanist is hamstrung by a poor choice of second class (Occultist).

grimdawn.com seems down; none of the links pointing there work including the in-game guide. Heh.

Yup. Timeouts all over the place. I guess we wait. Unless you have a link to the build on GrimCalc, that is ;)

Purifier sounds greeeeeeeaaat.

Just logged back in on my lvl 50 character after a long layoff from the game. All the rift gates west of Arkovian Foothills show up as a “?” and I can’t use them. I have already unlocked them, all the way up to Tomb of the Watchers, but now I can’t use any of them. Am I forgetting something about how they work or are they broken somehow? The rift gates up the east side of the map all work fine. Thanks.

Maybe you’re starting in Elite difficulty, and you haven’t unlocked them yet in Elite Difficulty. In the main menu, you can start the game on Normal/Veteran, and the rift gates should be unlocked.

Edit: Btw, here is my build so far, I’m just tooling around, learning the Oathkeeper abilities. Very nice set of powers so far. https://www.grimtools.com/calc/Q2zOR4AV

Thanks @Rock8man, that was it. Somehow it was defaulted to Elite even though I’ve never played using Elite difficulty.

Ok, so let’s talk satisfaction level of the Oathkeeper abilities so far.

Righteous Fervor is obviously the default attack. It’s just like a regular attack, but you gain charges up to 6, which enhance the attack numbers and adds physical and burn damage. Nothing exciting as far as visual flair goes. The second ability in that chain does add attack speed though, so you can use this to attack pretty quickly, which can be satisfying later in its own way.

Aegis of Menhir is the ability where you throw your shield. It has physical and fire damage and stuns the target(s). The followup ability Avenging Shield lets your shield hit additional targets. Unfortunately you have to put 3 points into avenging shield each time to get an additional target for your shield. I really like Aegis of Menhir. It can be very satisfying to take down enemies from afar, or at least put them out of commission by stunning them for a bit. It’s kind of hilarious that your shield sometimes doesn’t pick the next closest enemy after the first one when firing into a crowd. Sometimes the second target is on the complete opposite side instead, which makes for funny visuals.

I feel like I’ve seen this before in a game. The demon hunter in Diablo 3 maybe? Did she have a shield or disc throwing ability that was similar?

Vire’s Might is very much like the Soldier’s Blitz. I’m kind of disappointed at how similar it is. You rush to the target and do area of effect damage to the crowd. It’s satisfying like Blitz, but I’m unclear on how it’s different. Someone should do a break down of which one does more damage, Vire’s Might or Blitz. Also, I wonder if it’s practical to do a Warlord character who has both Vire’s Might and Blitz and uses it to ping pong between enemy groups.

Judgement is the last of the active skills I’ve been able to try for the Oathkeeper. It didn’t look great on paper when I saw it. I thought it wouldn’t be worth investing in. It sounded like a weak area of effect attack. But hey, this thing is super satisfying to use. You raise your arms turn into a giant magnet for monsters for a second. Everyone gets thrown towards you, sometimes missing you and flying past you. Crate once again using physics in a satisfying way in an ability that is really fun to use. The ability that I thought looked least interesting turned out to be the best.

Crusader has an ability (Blessed shield + shattering rune) that will throw your shield and then it splits off into 3 pieces. And there’s also a shield (Jekangbord) they can equip that will preserve those pieces and they’ll split again. It is absolutely crazy fun. Even funner before they nerfed it, but still fun.

One of my characters uses this setup:
