Rolled a spin to win type oathkeeper. Using sword and board and loving it atm. Think he’s now 36 maybe.

What does that mean?

I was guessing a shield throwing oathkeeper, hence he spins his shield?

There’s a “whirlwind” type skill about 35 points into the tree.

You can assign a move hotkey and move around with a keybind, or you can play with a controller, which is actually very very well done! As someone who really desperately hates movement via mouse, I’m happy for both those options.

OK, thanks. Will look into that if I go back to a ranged build.

The new Forgotten Gods expansion requires Ashes of Malmouth, so you can not really skip Ashes.

Crucible is fine, but some people skip it. I found it really amps up the levelling process, especially if I find myself in a tough place where I need to grind. It is the only one that can be skipped as far as actualy game content goes. Or Forgotten Gods at the moment, but so far it looks good. Ashes of Malmouth expansion area is a huge, mazelike region. Absolutely massive and worth getting for the new character classes that offer significant diversity.

I have begun playing this game.

It is good.

There is a skill in the later tree performs very similar to Barbarian whirlwind in D3. Have to watch energy but so far its been super fun. just about 3/4 done with the vanilla quest line and really enjoying it.

I don’t care for the whirlwind skill all that much, but the Capt America shield throwing one is a great ranged attack.

Defeated the Warden and went to the new area. Loving it. It looks great, and so far has been challenging enough to make it fun (on veteran). Nothing has killed me, but I haven’t been able to mindlessly steamroll past everything like I can with the first few acts in the base game. Have to chose my fights and run to recover as needed.

The only problem is that I only have one bag and treasure (at least yellows and up) are dropping like crazy. I feel like I am having to run back to sell every 10 minutes. Thinking I may need to head back to the base game just to get some more bags and maybe a few more shrines before I do the newest DLC.

Not sure if I like my cult. I picked Soleal, and I won’t give any spoilers, but I like to play the good guy hero, and I cannot do that with them. None of the cults seemed like a good option for that though. The new land feels kind of evil.

Has anyone tried jumping straight into ultimate yet with that new feature? I’m interested in starting again but don’t want to slog through the normal then vet then ultimate thing.

Did the Crucible today for the first time. Fun and fast way to grind some levels.

It’s great for starting new characters, just run into the enemy spawns the first couple times and die and boom level 3, and from then on it’s easy to get to level 15ish with 5 devotion points already done, and some decent gear. I start every new character that way. Going to try that into Ultimate tomorrow.

One thing I usually don’t figure out is movement skills. For my new Oathkeeper I’ve got just 2 skills, the main attack flamey thing and the shield throw. I know it’s early, but is there a way I can get some movement skill so I can zip around? Probably going to go crucible to get some levels under my belt so I have a few more skills etc to work with.

Also: the devotion points you get via the crucible don’t replace any shrines in the world do they? I know there’s a max number of devotion points you can get, so if you get some in the crucible then what does that mean, when you’re maxed out you just won’t be able to get points from the last couple of shrines you find?

Exactly. You won’t have to do the hard to reach shrine to get to the max.

Just get the Oathbreaker’s version of the shield blitz skill as soon as you can, even if only one point. Throw shield, blitz, and then Judgement are my standard operating procedure.

There isn’t a great way to get movement up otherwise that I know of. Even equipment/devotions stats won’t make you that zippy.

I also tried it with my level 21 cabalist dude, got a couple of levels and some nice loot out of it.

Use the Ultimate Token even if you arn’t going to play on Ultimate for a while and it gives you all your bags so you can avoid this.

Basic movement runes are also for sale in the Covenant. Depending on the faction, you’ll have a choice of 2 rune types to pick your movement skills.

I’m about half way through the new content, and I gotta say, so far these are my favorite areas for Grim Dawn. They have upped the ante in environmental graphics and monster design. It is just a blast to steamroll through a pack of velociroptors and then run with my tail between my legs with a giant T-Rex looking purple boss biting at my ass.

Bravo Crate. This is an absolutely excellent expansion of the type that adds substantial content rather than the new model of piddly DLC that has plagued the industry.
