Part of the problem with high-level play, I feel, is that it’s there at all. Unpopular opinion, I know. Honestly, the meat of the game is in the development of your character build, finding new equipment, and enjoying the ride. Once you hit those high levels 70+, very little ever changes with the way you play and what you use. It happens well before that, really, but at least you can still be playing through the story with expansions even if leveling is slow.
I wouldn’t mind if there was more focus on building out different masteries to make replays more frequent with alternative combos and builds, while diverting resources from attempting to make the late/post-game level grinding interesting. But hey, I love starting over with a level 1 character as opposed to ever playing my level 70+s again.

I am the same way, I think my highest level character is 82 or so. About the time I have all the skills I wanted, and then get frustrated by some ultimate boss’s difficulty, I start or another character or take a break
Maybe it’s just the Lightning Druid I made this time, but leveling up 100 was really easy for me this time. By the end of Normal/Veteran difficulty I had all the Devotion shrines I could get. By the beginning of Ultimate difficulty I hit level 100 in around Act 2. And most recently I maxed out all my devotions near Act 4. So now when I earn experience, it does nothing. I’m already max level, and max devotions. And that’s when I lost the motivation to keep going through the campaign.
I should fire it up and finish the campaign, just so that I max out all the factions. Barrenholm, for instance, is still not maxed out. Neither are a couple of other factions.
My last few plays have been with mods and using GD Defiler to give myself a few hundred skill, stat and devotion points and start loads of new classes and fool around with different hybrids. Currently with Dawn of Masteries I have a 14th level Ranger/Void Knight and although ive unlocked all skills ive only thrown a few points in each. I also wont use up all the stat points until ive progressed a bit, same with devotion points, they sit untouched right now. Im a superhero but im not Superman on god mode.
Im in it for the end to end map journey and the loot froot machine and enjoying the light show from all the skills and proc effects and the Post-Apocalyptic Magic Event setting isnt exactly overdone. Titan Quest was similar, as I was a kid into classical mythology and legends the replays were about the journey through my childhood tales and TQ had them all.

Is a Battlemage (Arcanist/soldier) realistic in GD? Seems like it would be too scattered to be effective. I always dream of that class that could blast from long range and then buff up and tank, but I don’t think it would really work in this game.
The ol’ Kensai Mage eh ? Melee with high end nukes works in theory, but I always end up naturally tending towards utility spells if i play a melee class that duos into magic classes. If im a ranged/caster that goes melee its usually because of armour and heals.
I had fun upthread with a hardcore battlemage. I died eventually because I decided to do the Ancient Grove and went down to the final boss. But I had a blast up to that point.
As you can read in the posts, the key points were physical resists, and Absolute Zero, which lowers enemies’ physical resist.
At around level 28 I had to lower the difficulty from veteran to normal on my Mage Hunter (Dual Pistol Inquisitor Arcanist). I’ve been pumping up defense as much as I can, and putting most points into leveling up my masteries, but I’m still constantly getting one-shotted by a couple bosses. Things are much more manageable on Normal difficulty, but this is the first character (out of 7 or 8) I’ve had that hasn’t been able to swing veteran reliably. Admittedly, it’s possible that because I haven’t played in a long while this part of the game is harder, but I also suspect this class is a bit too glassy for my playstyle.
I’ll give it a few more levels and if I can’t figure out a good way to go back to Veteran I might just start a different character. There should be nothing wrong with going through on Normal at these levels, but I keep feeling like I’m cheating.

Thanks @Rock8man, I might have to try that out. Not sure the Paladin I am playing now is for me. It’s tough, but charging in and going toe to toe with everything is kind of boring.
There’s your problem.
Also the dual pistol procmonster Mage Hunter build seems to be a pretty slow burn. Not massively happy with mine through 30 or so, even with twinky equipment.
Yea, see, I’ve never built a character this way before, but I stumbled across that tip in some random Steam discussion (not about this specific build, but as a general rule of thumb) and gave it a shot. It’s possible (probable) I’ve screwed up here, and the tip is nonsense. No big loss, 2 or 3 days of playing, but I doubt I’ll be doing it that way again.
The stat boosts just aren’t nearly as relevant as leveling up skills. And the dw pistol thing needs all the damage it can get.

Next update is world building.
There are many nooks and crannies in Cairn that have been left untouched. In some cases, it was the realities of development and we couldn’t get to everything we wanted to. In other cases, we had tantalizing areas just out of sight that never got used.
The most infamous of all may be the area between Old Arkovia and Tyrant’s Hold. Those who have been with us since Early Access may recall that we once contemplated offering two routes up to Homestead but, for a number of reasons, we had to alter those plans. The game has grown since then, and we’ve had some time to ponder how we could give that area the attention it deserves.

When do you guys do Forgotten Gods? Right away (after act 1) or do you come back to it? Originally I did it right away and then the old Act 2, Rovers area, was all low level and I was way over powered. The rebalance changed that hopefully.
The Rebalance does change that. It’s all nicely balanced whenever you do it. However, it is Forgotten Gods, so that part of it is extra tough no matter when you do it. I still have never managed to get through Forgotten Gods with any of my immortal characters without a death, so I’ve been too nervous to try it with any of my hardcore characters.

I created a Warlord (Oathbreaker + Soldier) and shot up to level 20 in one sitting. This thing is much more focussed than my last character (Mage Hunter) and has been making quick work of just about everything (I got my butt kicked by a spiky poison boss in some cloudy fart-cave and had to go back with a resist potion).
I haven’t faced the Warden yet, but probably will next time I play.
This character is much more predictable, and much beefier. She’s less like a glass cannon and more like a wrecking ball.
On my Warlord, I love having both Blitz and Vire’s Might (the two charge skills).
With the controller, if you set the option to not have movement skills respect target lock, it works out beautifully. Blitz requires a target, so that still target-locks (and is great for charging in). VM doesn’t require a target, so with the controller interface it just blasts you 15 meters or whatever in the direction you’re pointed. Amazingly helpful for getting out of town on the infrequent occasions that things get a little too hot for comfort.
Just started playing this and am really digging it. I hear rumors that the steam sale is starting up next week, is there any DLC you all would recommend or not recommend I pick up?
The Loyalist packs are just cosmetic stuff. You can safely skip those unless they’re part of some bundle. All the other DLC is pretty great.
