Well, maybe I will just hold out and wait for Kharkov to go on sale then. Should be in about three years.

I’m really just hanging out for War Plan Orange to go on sale.

Thanks! I will take a look at the Command Ops series and the AAR.
I forgot to mention the “local command” feature, where units that receive no orders act independently.
Anyone here going to Avaloncon/WBC in a couple weeks?
WBC is on my bucket list… But won’t be getting checked off this year.
That is almost right across the street from where I live. I had no idea it was a real thing people traveled to.
Well, it’s certainly not in Rochester, NY!
Anyway, I may be there for a couple days - will be in DC around the same time.
I have never been to it, but people definitely travel to it. It’s really a gamers event more than just another trade show.

WBC is definitely focused on playing games, which can be a nice break from some other cons that seem more exhibitor-oriented. When I went in 1998 it was the last year of Avalon Hill and “Avaloncon” and I was struck by how many opportunities there were for gaming of pretty much any sort (of the boardgame variety). WBC has carried on this tradition of playing games. There are also apparently some days of “mini-cons” prior to the actual WBC which focus on specific games. It is really a great place to go play.

Apparently at Historicon Gary Grigsby mentioned the possibility of another Steel Panthers like game in the future after the WIT* series is done. So possibly 20 years from now, but better late than never :)

I missed that. Must have still been reeling at the War in Europe plans. WITE - 25k hexes, WITW - 36k hexes. WIE - 134k hexes.
Those Strategic Command guys better get a move on - there’s a hex gap opening up.
WITE = War in the East.
WITW = War in the West?
WIE = ?

Well I guess the Matrix Games experiment with weekly sales is over? Last week their excuse was Historicon, but this week, silence.

They’ve said they will start again next week.

Ok, Matrix has brought back the deal of the week. 50% off “Spartan” and “Gates of Troy”. Not overwhelming, considering “Gates of Troy” is from 2004, and “Spartan”, well, I don’t know when that’s from, but apparently it is the “Predecessor to Gates of Troy”.
But hey, baby steps.

Spartan and Gates of Troy are pretty solid games but Slitherine kind of messed up Legion II(it became the stillborn Legion Arena). I really like the battle system and wish some 4x game would ape its style as opposed to trying to ape total war.

So, have you (or anyone else) played this? Preferably on the iPad? What’s the judgement?
