Yeah, I just have the huge, overdone 44" monitor. :)

Did you see an option to run the game windowed anywhere in the settings?

That is basically what it is. They did well.

If you alt-tab, the game should continue in the background, so perhaps you might be able to get screenshots that way. Not sure, though.

Alt-Tab worked. Edit coming to above post.

I learn something new in this forum nearly every day. Thanks @Navaronegun.
The A3R mod is going to be a sweet nostalgia ride.

Summer in Maine means little time to game, but I may take you up on your offer later in the year.

Cheers.

He should also play some boardgames. This line in particular is ridiculous:

Yeah, I have no idea what he was talking about. It was like the WaPo article that claimed that Twilight Struggle “saved the Industry”. Wut! Gimme a break…

P500 and the interwebs saved the industry. End.

He also conflates pre-order numbers with sales numbers.

I am getting dumber now for having read it…I couldn’t find a link on that guy in the article. I 'm semi-certain he is HMGS Bill Gray…who really does know naught of such things.

As a former student and collaborator the DIA JMIC stuff on wargaming is laughable and quite amusing.

It is interesting that SPI’s best-selling title was Starforce at 50k copies. That means Twilight Struggle has already outsold it. Kind of undermines the whole point of the article.

Bill just needs to focus on getting Historicon back to PA. Lancaster…so much to answer for (apologies to The Smiths).

So anyhoo…go play Strategic Commander WWII: War In Europe Advanced Third Reich mod. We cans pbemseses.

Anything published? Wouldn’t mind giving it a read.

Is there any point, though? It just skins the game with some pseudo-3R values, right? There are no comparable mechanics?

No, the limits on construction, the changes to unit vales, and ranges and APs really make for an A3R experience. I mean, lord knows, I always talk up games and hype them. Especially when they aspire to the golden oldies. :)

You know me, Mr. Grognard Sunshine! [whistles down the lane].

No, and that’s another thing I really didn’t like about the article. Citing an Intel org or Agency as having “proof” and then not being able to let it stand up to scrutiny in the light of day is kind of fruitless and moot as a citation, you know? Lending weight to assertions through name-checking, but not being able to show you. It was just a really bizarro-land article. Wargamer has not impressed me for a while now. Most of the reviews I have seen have been love letters lately. Every game = Flawless Gem.

I sure read your share, though. :)

But see above post, I am now Mr. Grognard Sunshine.

Totally agreeing 👍 with that, mate. The article looked to me sketchy and this thread was too quiet so…

That’s a nice avatar, reminds me of the bad guy in Morrowind.

I will be posting soon with some more thoughts on SC:WW2… as I thought I would hate it and actually I had an “aha!” moment.

One question meanwhile: the mods you mention seem to be requiring to create a new campaign with the editor and overwrite its data. That totally stopped me in my tracks, as I have very bad experiences from WitE online play where some disreputable gentlemen liked to edit campaigns and do stuff like deploying the Afrika Korps in Romania in June 1941. Is there a specific download which is kind of “official”? I am using Steam but the game doesn’t seem to be integrated with the workshop.

It’s just in the DLC pack:

Strategic Command WWII: Community Pack

Released: Oct 18, 2017

The most interesting and awesome mods for Strategic Command, created by the users that love this game.

It’s a free DLC download

Thanks, I totally missed that!

BTW, talking about John Prados… I was surprised that he’s moved onto writing milhist books, so I checked out his book on the struggle for the Solomons. I have found it to be rather bad, honestly.

My only gripe (only!) is that the DLC added adds 3 extra seconds to the startup time.

OMG----REFUND!

Hubert’s games are extremely well engineered. He makes them in Eiffel, when I figured that out I almost fell out of my chair. Better than WiF’s (and AGEOD’s) choice of Delphi…
