It is!

OK, then I guess they are just adding scenarios and improving graphics in the PzC Gold versions.

Yeah, I am sad to see Blackie passed. I used to back and forth with him via email. But the games are ossified and the code hasn’t really changed since I was doing stuff with them for Talonsoft when I was in Grad School. That’s 20 years. Clinton was President. AOL. Pre-911. “Fly” ?!?

I have never seen that before. Hell, I even had that album in high school.

I haven’t listened to it in probably a dozen years or more.

Now I’m good for another dozen.

It was as “1998” as I could get off the top of my head.

If you wanted something 1998 that has not aged well? That definitely fits. There are albums from that year I still listen to, some I even listened to at the time!

That is not one of them.

I almost went with this as it is soooo 90s, but it’s '93. :)

So 90’s?

This would be my pick for ‘thing that is quintessentially ‘98’

Ironically one of my favorite albums of all time was also released in ‘98 and it getting a remaster, and a live concert series with John De Lancie as narrator.

Off the rails: This is my most ‘98 album - Mezzanine by Massive Attack.

On the rails: Watched the video. The most cringeworthy thing is that interface. Programmers were paid by the icon.

I actually love that song, and the video. It’s message is still pertinent. Ok, aesthetically, it’s not quite Led Zeppelin, but…

You do wanna slap that kid still though, huh?

Well, yes, that’s the point, isn’t it?

In the most 90’s way possible

Heh.

Stuff released in '98 that I actually listened to regularly:

Not a big year for me music-wise.

Its a weird year for me. Most of the stuff I listened to at, or near, that time came out in years flanking it. The only real exception being Smashing Pumpkins has one of their (lesser) albums that year.

But there are for me two stone cold classics, top 10 all time, and probably both top 5 all time albums from that year, plus a third marginal top 25 EP. But I’m not sure that 96,97 and 99 aren’t better.

However for games, 1998 is a damn goldmine. Some games that absolutely stand up today, in spite of difficult interfaces.

PC games generally less so. PC wargames like Tiller’s? Especially so.

Just to clarify, you didn’t buy Kursk Gold if you already owned Kursk did you? Owners of the original games get the Gold version for free if HPS has your purchase on file.

No, I hadn’t owned it. That was my “give Tiller a chance, you gave up on him 10 years ago, but who knows” purchase a few months ago when he came up last. Thanks for thinking of me though, Iron.

So …uh … I would rarely post here cause you guys are serious. BUT… I saw “Sudden Strike:North Africa” dropped today and I wondered: Are there no turn based squad/platon level WWII games that are a little like old steel panthers? Because it is clear the game I mentioned above is just a real time start game with a wwii wrap.

See this:

I know you may not believe this PM but I spent a ton of time with old Steel panthers. Be nice to see a North Africa campaign done right turn based.
