I keep saying that (and with easy to use Multiplayer) but many designers (sadly) seem more interested in selling 25 year old code or designing AI-focused/RTS (or RTS-like) sims.

But it is happening…slowly.

No evidence this will ever happen. Especially with Ian Trout now dead.

Meanwhile, on paper-and-cardboard there are half-a-dozen great ones.

This makes me grumpy. There has to be a turn based North Afirica campaign. Grrr.

Well, there is “dreck” like Order Of Battle and Panzer Corps. I mean, we won’t judge. We do get pretty Groggy up in here, up in here.

PM that is almost all Strategic. Did graviteam or anything else make it more personal? I still think you are being a bit condescending to a nice girl… But …. I have to admit you aren’t always very bad.

North Africa! Screw that strategic crap… what do we have smaller?

(ok I admit I sorta admit I like teasing PM a bit – he seems so serious)

(like he’s on the like in Zulu with a a martini-henry)

It’s a thing, I guess.

Edit: Also, I’m slow.

Ok Ty all – I am still thinking there is hardly ONE North Africa campaign game that makes sense. Well except for old steel panthers.

Free admission: I spent weeks as the Americans in steel panthers open campaign trying to get through. And ok that was probably 15 years ago. GD Italians.

Slim pickins lady. Times is tough in Turn Based Grognard land.

Gotta be a graviteam turn based north Africa. Some of us are actually hardcore.

Cheyanne

(I want a turn based straight wwii or cold war tank /infantry support strategic/tactics. Not a panzer general)

Sry Grogs == I just came over to bother pm a bit … but I am serious.

Grr - a good North Africa regiment/platoon level Kasserine pass kinda game. I mentioned graviteam but ,

You can always give a try to the latest version of TOAW, if that’s your cup of tea. They recently updated the looks of the thing, I have mixed feelings about the outcome.

Graviteam made a most excellent sim, a bit rough around the edges and hard to learn.

That’s the only game I think captures for real what it was like to command a Panzer III company and run into a bunch of GI running into their foxholes to the crack of 50mm guns and a Sherman tank exploding. All that while the sun rises over the horizon reflecting on the stones of a ruined Roman aqueduct.

The above is not hyperbole, but fact. Graviteam sim is flawed in some ways - no multiplayer, somewhat obtuse UI - but kind of generates truly unforgettable memories.

Of course, you can also pore over the map of the Kasserine BCS game for a very long time, like Husserl used to do with his ashtray, and use your imagination (or better, help yourself with kool aid laced with peyote) to conjure those visions.

Miguel let me look at that… but Ty !
