Is there solitaire potential for Tonkin?
No more so than any other wargame. There is no hidden info or anything like that. (that I recall, anyway) It’s the best game on that period that exists.

Agreed. It’s scary how good it is.
And of the three Algeria games that exist (Brian Train’s Algeria and Colonial Twilight, and Kim’s game) Ici, c’est la France is the best.
Ici is really good, but it’s very long. Tonkin is a miracle. I have played every Kanger game but his East Africa WW1 game, and they are all top notch.

Zeppelin Raider (Compass) was somewhat overdue, and it sounds like there are a couple of quality issues and one or two baffling component decisions, from the bgg threads.
I can ask Kim what the deal is. For the record, I think we completed 4 or 5 full campaign games this winter by VASSAL as part of the playtest. I think the rules changes are beneficial.

This. Everything I have read about the campaign comes alive in this game. I can honestly say that is explains the French Indochina dilemma more clearly than any book I have read. Only downside is the exclusion of Annam and Cochin-China.
Yeah, I actually typed and deleted that Tonkin made me understand what happened and why it happened. It sounded corny. But I agree with you, completely.

Get this game from Legion. IT GREAT. Even my non wargaming friend said it was one of the most intense game he ever played. Only downside is it’ll be very long if this is your first game. We couldn’t complete our f2f game in 8 hours. Nonetheless it was memorable experience.

Getting something because of the cover art might be a stretch. I dunno, I think I have not done that one yet.
