That is probably what got me to grab Victory in the Pacific all those years ago. I think I was in 4th or 5th grade.

That is an amazing painting.

Got them. Will read them today.

They seem concise!

I know these are not the most revered of titles, and with reason, but I still have a soft spot for some of the ways Tiller games handle big battles. The newest is out now, Japan '45, which is one of the scenarios I really am interested and have been since the old SPI Operation Olympic game. I bought it, and yeah, it’s the usual fare, but nice looking for what it is and it seems pretty cool if you want to fiddle around with a hypothetical like this.

I have Sealion '40 so I am interested in picking this up.

Sealion was interesting, yeah. I mean, the games still have the issue of scale, where because of the map and time scaling battles lose most of their fluidity, but good scenario design can sometimes help with that. I tend to like the invasion games a lot better than the standard land battle offerings, too. Sicily, Salerno, Anzio, Normandy, Sealion were all decent.

I didn’t realize Doug Strickler had died.

Yeah, it’s sobering to realize too how long this series has been going on. I remember covering the first one, Smolensk '41, in the late nineties, after Tiller had split with Jim Rose’s TallonSoft. It’s been over twenty years now.

Anybody playing Warfighter WWII? https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/196496/warfighter-wwii-tactical-combat-card-game

Thinking of picking it up but with the two expansions I’d need to play Germans vs Russians it will be over $100 plus shipping. I saw one post in the Boardgaming thread from a couple of years ago but nothing since. I’ve watched some stuff on Youtube but value any comments here more. Thanks.

I would pass on Warfighter, frankly.

OK. Any particular reason?

It’s just a reskin of a zombie game that makes no logical sense in tactical combat terms. Terrible layout makes the game extremely cumbersome. Mechanics don’t fit the theme. It’s just bad. My opinion only.

Well, I value your opinion. Thanks.

Should have kept my old copy of Up Front I guess.

DVG has a real issue with taking a decent formula to begin with, and then taking it way too far in sequels.

Thanks @vyshka!

I loved playing Up Front with our gaming group way back when. A very well thought out design overall.

Holy cats. Talk about your coming from left field. WotC… publishing Up Front.
