I haven’t looked at old school tactical
How is Walker’s new series?
Anyone have thoughts on the Combat Commander games?
They guys at The Players Aid like Old School Tactical, Combat Commander, Lock n Load Tactical System, and Awakening the Bear among others. Audio is not up to their usual standards on this video but it’s still OK.
I am on record as saying the Combat Commander series is terrible.
Is it going to be only solo play?
I would only play it solo so it would need to lend itself to that but I can play both sides if there is no solo system in the game. As mentioned above by @Juan_Raigada, games with lots of concealment would take away some of the realism for me.
Command Decision. But you need some lead.
The Chadwick abides.
I kind of enjoy the Combat Commander games, but they are completely unplayable solo and don’t have vehicles. Fun for small infantry skirmishes. Not sure it simulates much other than playing Combat Commander though.
To clarify, that makes it my fourth favorite Second World War tactical system, so I can’t say I would recommend it if you are looking for just one. ASL or Band of Brothers would be my recommendations, depending on if you are willing to deal with the ASL Rules.
Pretty sure LnL Tactical System licenses the CoH solo system as an expansion. I believe that solo system has received good reviews.
Edit - I don’t think Butterfield ever did any Eastern Front solo games did he?
OMGPLS. Take that right outta here.
Butterfield is working on a Kharkov game using the same system as Enemy Action: Ardennes.

Interesting @Brooski. That post was 2 years ago so I wonder how it’s going.
Yup I would go with Old School Tactical Eastern Front. :)
Eh… the Company of Heroes solo system is Butterfield and Eastern front.
Yes, it’s done on top of a system that is not his, but he changed arguably the most defining part of the system (the AP system) and the series is now adopting that change into the MP game moving on.
So you have that available now. I’m also looking forward to Enemy Action: Kharkov and the Stalingrad version of the D-Day system, which I don’t know if it’s his design or somebody else iterating on the system.
Forgive my ignorance. Can I take it from your :) that you were involved with the game?
Somebody needs to just make a dang Platoon-Scale Cardboard or Puter affair with that system.
Platoon Scale > than “Did Corporal Gradenko blow his nose in the wheatfield” scale EVERY DANG DAY OF DA WEEK!

My Corporal Gradenko fanfiction says otherwise.
There is no shipping in your Gradenko fanfic, I hope.

Corporal Gradenko felt a wave of nervousness wash over him as Private Smolenkov passed the vodka to him and their hands brushed, their eyes met, locked.
“It is hot tonight, eh comrade?” said Smolenkov, his voice husky.
“D-da,” stammered Gradenko…
