edit: I checked., yeah you can save anywhere and anywhen then reload when you want.

Correct. Actually I saved after the first 10 mins of battle then reloaded. I can double check for ya later if this is super vital for ya, which I understand. Also fyi the game is fully pausable and give orders while paused so there is no time pressure here for the player.
