I haven’t signed any NDAs so I think I can say publicly that the game is very good at this stage and worth playing. In addition, the VASSAL module is extremely well done.

Individual turns play pretty fast too. It’s definitely already fun to play and the asymmetry is great!

This is part of my own ongoing and very sprawling RPG/wargame/boardgame tabletop research, but I guess it fits better here.

Did you know the U.S. Army had a manual on wargames?

Here for example they explain that if you want to launch a war you should rely on military expert, but just in case you don’t have them, you can as well play a wargame!

And of course the best military simulations are written in FORTRAN.

Crikees, programmed in FORTRAN IV? How freakin’ old is that thing? I learned FORTRAN on punchcards back when dinosaurs roamed the earth.

This seems to be the most famous:

Look how sleek it is.

…but nope. We can still go further back.

And holy shit, this is when it started going downhill.

Holy crap, that first picture is of me…kidding.

Clearly Mr. Rogers in the foreground.

That stuff reminds me of college (FORTRAN) and later in the '80s the PDP/11 and VAX 11/780 systems I used in a couple of government programs. At the time, I could not have imagined the type of computers we have today, back then.

Hmmmm…this might wake up our poor Lieutenant bored by news from the East into taking a snooze near the Volturno.

This is an expensive game I’m going to buy and not play much…

Heh, I hear you.

Tacview occasionally goes on sale. I think I got advanced for half off. I’m curious to see how the ground bits work, or if they are just there for target purposes.

Someone should have told warfaresims.com about this, because the developers should have probably updated their website.

This is a good start. The base game will probably be $80 so any discount/incorporation of previous purchases is welcome.

All CMANO scenarios can be loaded in to CMO, so you will to play all your existing scenarios. The aim is to have CMO recognise your installed DLC for CMANO so all the content you already bought will just appear in CMO, assuming we can iron out all the technical wrinkles to make that happen!

  • All base game scenarios from CMANO are being updated to add support for new features and generally improve them in CMO.
  • CMO uses a new file format so while you can load up CMANO scenarios on CMO, you wont be able to take CMO scenarios back to CMANO.
  • There will be a significant incentive for players who want to upgrade from CMANO to CMO, so you will not be paying the full price if you already own CMANO. Details TBD.

Nice! Did you see he has a pseudo-Jenkins’ Ear?

Yessir! Own it. Backing it is what clued me in to his new title.

I watched a video of that TacView thing, and man, I would love a game that was that, but turn-based WEGO, like an aerial Combat Mission.

Someone should have told us… what? :)
