Ok I didn’t jump in here to correct Pat’s spelling. Instead, it was to tell you that there is a VASSAL module for Brotherhood & Unity!

http://www.vassalengine.org/wiki/Module:Brotherhood_%26_Unity

I will be running (i.e. not playing) a game of this. We need three people. We will be posting the stuff on the forums for everyone to see. It will be excellent.

I think @CF_Kane said he was in upthread. Still true?

Yeah you did!

Sooooo passive aggressive…

Not really passive!

So are you playing the Serbs?

Prolly. Maybe Croats.

I am in.

Cool. We’ll figure out sides after we get three players.

So @Navaronegun are you serious that you’re playing? Or are you just playing us?

Cardz? Ok.

Has anyone played GMT’s “Flying Colors”? It’s an Age of Sail game that can be played solo or with 2 players. It’s an IGo-YuGo system, not the WeGo of Wooden Ships, Iron Men. Apparently it’s designed to make it easier to simulate large fleet actions, like Trafalgar. I’m half tempted by the new Deluxe edition 3rd printing. https://www.gmtgames.com/p-672-flying-colors-deluxe-3rd-printing.aspx

Well, here’s a review from the game’s page by someone who has apparently not played it.

“From the graphics on the box to the contents inside, quality and heft. The Age of Fighting Sail is one of my favorite”

Reviews and ratings on BGG by people who haven’t actually played games are so cute.

He’s a collector! It is probably in the queue for winter 2030

Reminds me I wrote some nappy naval rules years ago and never shared them. I need to dig them out and put em on my site.

It’s actually on GMT’s website.

Lolzies

At least that one was by someone that apparently has the product. :)

Or at least picked it up in the store, looked at the cover, and weighed it.

Here is a 1 star review for A Time for Trumpets:

I am interested in the topic but am frustrated by the lack of information about the Game mechanics - play testing - whatever- so please supply more information about the game not just pictures of the map!

Always bring a scale.

I’ve played it a few times but am definitely not an expert. Obviously it can handle larger fleet actions but it’s definitely not a fast game and the ships might get littered with counters for damage, effects, etc. It only has around 20 pages or so of rules, so it’s definitely manageable from that standpoint, but I can imagine it being a lot to do every turn with the larger scenarios (it’s been a few years at this point and I only played a few smaller scenarios). I had a good time and you get a lot of game in the 3rd ed box.

Thanks for the readout. It sounds fun. But I know me: I’d play it solo a couple times and enjoy it – and then get distracted by the next shiny thing. For the right price, I’m game to do that, but in this case the price tag is $75. I know GMT games are of high quality, but still, ouch. I may watch for a sale.

While we’re on the subject of online commentary on unplayed games: I actually watched an entire “unboxing” video for this game. That’s 25 minutes I’m not getting back! At least I was exercising on a treadmill at the time. But I suppose it was worth it for the shared thrill of tearing off the shrinkwrap.
