The narrator is…Ronald Reagan?

Better front from the same timeframe.

“Its a put on!”

Good thematic comment on Fulda Gap games. And SC “S”.

I like to think the name is a parody of Tiller, but I don’t know if Zachtronics has those deep cuts in mind.

Well, it’s neither “Standard” nor really a “Series” but it does have Combat. Maybe it should be called “C” ?

But I Won’t Get Fooled Again!

“Oh, No!”

[Townshend guitar riff sounds]

Revolution Games November sale!

I probably should start a separate thread for an AAR of my ongoing solo play of World in Flames, the monster boardgame. But as time is short today and I’m eager to share, here’s a quick update:

Germany finally took Paris in August 1940, and the Germans installed the Vichy government. In September/October of 1940, the Germans sent wolfpacks to the North Atlantic but so far have failed to find the British convoys there. Led by the Bismarck, the Kriegsmarine has piled into the North Sea, challenging the Brits to a naval duel as a possible prelude to Sea Lion. So far the two navies have not found each other. Here’s a look:

Meanwhile the Italians have captured Alexandria, destroyed Wavell’s HQ, and got themselves right up to the Suez Canal – only to have the Brits destroy their convoys in the eastern Med, putting the Italian soldiers in Egypt out of supply. Since then, the Italians have sneaked in one more convoy, restoring a tenuous supply link, but the situation is uncertain. Here’s a look at this theater:

This rocks! Please do carry on sharing! Love it!

Glad you’re enjoying it! WiF is awesome. :)

I bought MWIF a number of years ago but I have never been able to get into it. Following this with interest!

In my ongoing solo play of World in Flames, it’s January 1941, and the Commonwealth is very much alone. Italy still occupies much of Egypt and has come within a whisker of taking the Suez Canal. North Africa, Syria, and most of sub-Saharan Africa went Vichy, although Indochina is Free French. The Kriegsmarine, led by the Bismarck, has exchanged blows with the Royal Navy in the North Sea. British defenses in the Far East are alarmingly weak. The CW has a couple corps in India, one in Burma, a couple in Australia, and almost no naval/air forces there, most having diverted to Egypt. In January 1941, German and Italian subs smashed many British tankers and merchants in the Central Atlantic; Britain can’t replenish all the tankers, so she’ll be unable to transport much of the oil she normally gets from South America. Germany and Italy are massing on the Yugoslav border, and there’s not much the Brits can do about it.

Still, not all is bleak. The Americans may finally gear up production this month. Italy’s navy is thinning, and its supply lines to Egypt are weaker than ever. Germany’s planned attack on Yugoslavia has been repeatedly postponed because of snow, blizzard, now rain. And Japan has stalled in China. After taking one resource hex in southern China, Japan has taken many losses trying in vain to take the other such hex and to take the Communist-held city of Sian in the north. Here’s a look at the situation in southern China.

Beer? Boo… that’s for the enlisted man.

This is now up.

It seems like designer Jerry White had inspired something with Skies Above the Reich way back when:

This next one isn’t directly based on Skies but it certainly has a similar look:

@Brooski is getting review copies, right?

I’m not sure if Little Wars counts as a grognardy wargame—knocking over toy soldiers with toy cannon is definitely more on the beer-and-pretzels end of the scale—but it’s fascinated me for a long time.

The obstacle has always been the artillery. The breech-loading spring cannon Mr. Wells calls for is next to impossible to find today, outside of antiques at $50 a pop, and that’s not really feasible. So, having recently obtained a 3D printer, I set about developing some rudimentary skills with FreeCAD.

A day or two of tinkering (along with the patent drawings for the original early 20th-century toys) yielded what I believe to be a prototype that’s reasonably likely to work.

The hammer pin and trunnion pin are 2mm x 20mm bookshelf pins I found on Amazon, and hopefully a window screen spring will serve as the power source. The gun is missing a few items from its historical form—an elevation screw and a better trigger, mainly—but this should suffice for testing.

Anyway, with a little luck, I’ll be able to wrangle a friend who made the mistake of expressing interest into playing out a battle or two with me.

Very cool project, good use of 3d printing!
