It will be interesting to see if he uses the same character system as DC Barbarossa - except now you’re dealing with Patton and Monty.

I actually am interested in this one, because I think the game system might be a very interesting fit for the battle.

I am not because the interface is amazingly tedious and the DC series suffers from the Windows 10 Display issue that shows up on large monitors. All the text and functions are tiny. Since Matrix bats .000 in ensuring this is resolved for these creaky old software designs when there are new releases, my Bulge Boredom + No Multiplayer worth a crap + I can play good wargames, boardgames, all the time via Vassal opposed > Play with myself on a screen (let alone on a board or “fondling” a board wargame) equation is even more powerful.

I hear you. I don’t have any display issues with the games but tedium is certainly there. It’s why I can’t play the JTS stuff any more. Too much click for not enough clank.

That system was the work of Barbarossa designer Cameron Harris, so I would not count on it.

Hold on, they’re announcing game reveals – so we should expect released games 5 or 6 years from now?

The sad (but instructive) thing is I can’t tell if you agree with my biting comment or you’re laughing at how I naively assume we’ll see these games in less than 8 or 9 years.

I am interested in warplan pacific thanks for the heads up @TimJames ! I am all on board with the Bulge = snooze sentiment though.

The Bulge is a good candidate for asymmetrical designs, given the basic impossibility of a German victory in any meaningful way. Which is why I think it makes a good solitaire subject.

Both!

And imagine how creaky the code’ll be in 5-9 years!

Matrix showcase coming up at the top of the hour.

This thing is a masterclass in Tell, Don’t Show.

That’s what you do when you have nothing to actually show.

No there were all kinds of colored bars going up and down! Look at the video! Blue and red and green and I think black.

Seriously, they probably have stuff to show—it’s just that the stuff doesn’t have a lot of “pop.” The graphics will likely be the same as other games in their respective series. I do wonder how much of the game features that they discuss are actually implemented. But I played a version of War in the East 2 a year ago and it was playable and they were working on all sorts of things. I should check in again.

They mention the idea of a “high water mark” for the Axis in War in the East 2 without mentioning that No Retreat! did this ten years ago. This is one of my pet peeves: not crediting earlier designers.

And Joel did say that WitE2 would be ready for purchase in “early spring.”

Also, with the existenz of Empire of the Sun there is zero reason for another Pacific theatre wargame.

Al, the designer, is a friend, but I cannot see how that system as it exists in Warplan can be adapted to the War in the Pacific and do it justice.

“Purpose-built”

Always.
