I don’t understand this kind of thing, but that’s ok.
Yeah, I saw something about that in the Compass catalog I got in the mail a while back. Struck me as sort of wonky. I mean, I could see the theme being made into a card type game for multiple people, maybe, with a strong social element or something, but even then, I struggle to get my head around it. As a straight-up hex and counter war game, it seems neither militarily nor theologically interesting.
Did someone try to adapt Root to the Vietnam Conflict?

Constructive ones, though!

This is a major mistake on my part — I did not use 1.3.3. The US would play Op-only. Thanks to the developer, Jason Carr.
Get ready for a playthrough of Fire in the Lake!

Ooh, I’m really looking forward to your play of this. I own the board game, but to my shame, I still haven’t played it yet. Er, I have read the rules, at least! Anyway, rock on!

Well if you ever need an additional live opponent for Fire in the Lake, as the Val Kilmer/Tombstone meme goes, I’ll be your Huckleberry.
Speaking of GMT news I found this post for Skies Above Britain:
It looks like dogfights just got more serious.

That’s an engaging video. I don’t know much about this game, but now I want to learn more. Thanks for the link!
I’m hoping to spend more time away from computer screens and have been thinking to revisit tabletop wargames for something different. Based on a solitaire recommendation in another thread here I’ve ordered Enemy Action Ardennes (perhaps prompting an image of sleeping soldiers, I take it) from Compass Games.
I’ve also ordered Empire of the Sun via GMT’s P500 program. I’m curious, though, does anyone have experience with ordering through the P500 system? Is it a long wait still after the game hits its 500 orders? Empire of the Sun looks to be inching up 1 order per day, and it’s got 190 to go.

Two great choices! I own both, though I haven’t really given Enemy Action: Ardennes a good playthrough yet. It’s high on my “play next” list. The rules sure are elegant. I’ve played the heck out of Empire of the Sun. It’s a classic, and it’s quite playable solo, either with the included Erasmus bot or other systems you can find on Board Game Geek.
Once a game hits P500, there’s still a bit of a wait for it to get to the printer and so on. I would hope that process would be quicker for a game like EoTS that’s been printed before, but I don’t know. And if you’re incrementing 1 a day, with 180 to go, that sounds like a few months’ wait – although sometimes it accelerates a lot, as people sense the magic number is close. In any case, you’ll have plenty of time to learn and play EA:A.
I agree that solitaire boardgaming is a wonderful way to get away from the computer screen. I’ve been playing wargames solo my whole life, and these days I spend an hour or two a day with my solo playthrough of “World in Flames.” I even invested in a pair of wide tweezers with a light on the business end, to help my game look good on the tale. That game is so large that it has the added benefit of making me stand up and move around the table, getting me out of the chair.
Awesome, thank you! I’ll not hold my breath for EoTS until summer, then, and all that information is helpful. It’s good to know that’s fairly playable solo, too. I had wondered about that element of the game.
I have pretty large fingers too. I might invest in some of those wide tweezers with a light. I didn’t even know that was a thing.
A table to walk around instead of sitting at sounds like a win-win as well.
Most excellent information all around, thanks!
It might be later than that. They do push reprints fairly quickly, but they have a booked schedule. Depends on how they prioritize it.

Yeah, it’s solely GMT’s prioritization. There is stuff (like Vance Von Borries’ Army Group series) that has made the cut but not been printed for years. It all has to do with how much of a sell-through GMT thinks they will have. Since the 500 copies of O500 barely cover production costs, the whole point is how many of the several thousand copies they end up printing are going to sit in their warehouse taking up space, since the first 500 are just a fraction of that. My guess is that EotS will sell through pretty fast, so they will prioritize it highly. Still, it the typical “priority” time to get printed once the number is reached is 3-6 months. I highly doubt it will be out by summer.
Agree. And their backlog is really insane right now for everything. I’d be surprised if it comes out this year.
@Zilla_Blitz I have a spare copy, so if you are really jones-ing, I’ll gladly sell it to you for their retail price (I bought it retail). PM me if you want it.
Oh, I missed this.
I’m off my game I guess, with all the drowsiness…

I thought Enemy Action Kharkov was supposed to be out by now? I must have forgotten the date.
Thanks for all the information on when I might see Empire of the Sun. I’ll shift my expectations back to 2022 then. :)
I did get some unexpected goodness today, though. I didn’t even think this had shipped, but it just arrived at my door:
Thank you very much for the offer @Navaronegun! This is super kind of you, as I was poking about on Ebay and noticed they are going for more than retail at the moment. Having said that, I think I’ll wait for the P500 order for the moment. I’m fine with waiting, and it gives me something to look forward to.
And it’s good to see the sleeping soldiers. I was starting to think the management here was falling apart. ;)
Hello! I’ve followed this thread for a while and after seeing @Zilla_Blitz question, decided this would be a good time to chime in and start participating. :-)
Brooski and Navaronegun answered your question and I think they are correct, especially Navaronegun’s doubt about seeing it in 2021. I ordered Flashpoint China Sea in late December of 2018. I received an email from GMT on Feb. 7th, 2019 saying it had made the cut. That was the last I’ve heard about it.
I understand Flashpoint China Sea is a new game and it probably isn’t a priority like a reprint. I would be pleasantly surprised if I were to see this game 2021. I’m expecting to see it in 2022. I think the same will be true for Empire of the Sun.
Oh, and I see I’m a wee bit slow to reply as Godzilla_Blitz just followed up too. Glad to see you received Enemy Actions Ardennes. Very nice!
That’s quite a wait, yikes. I stumbled onto a post from GMT on Board Game Geek that lists the statuses of P500 orders. Looks like your game is in the 5-9 months area.
Poking about a bit more, it does seem like if you’re willing the wait a bit, the P500 system can give you some fairly cost efficient gaming. Any thoughts on Storm Above the Reich? It’s currently “at the printer”.

What kind of thoughts are you looking for? On the game itself or when it can be expected to ship?
