GTA to Cube/Xbox?

Good news for Cube/Xbox only owners, perhaps bad news for those that bought a PS2 or new GeForce just for GTA3 and/or Vice City (soon on PC).

The money train at Rockstar remains on track…

Yeah, I can’t wait to pick up my copy. In 2005, when they actually ship.

At least the PC versions are only 9 months behind the PS2 release. I can deal with that, because I much preferred GTA3 on the PC for every imaginable reason: graphics, control, load times, etcetera.

Although I did buy the PS2 versions of both games before ultimately selling them and waiting for the PC version. I blame Erik.

Well, they are probably allowed to work on them during the exclusive deal. It might not be a long wait.

Shrug. The game is interesting, but I’ll probably get the PC version if I want it.

Between these “timed exclusives” and “console exclusives,” there aren’t going to be a lot of really good games that aren’t multiplatform at the end of the day. Though Nintendo still does the true exclusive thing…

GTA for GC and Xbox are far from confirmed at the moment.

The “news piece” has been derived from speculation of speculation.

Yeah, they say 2004 in the article.

Sony may try to lock up the franchise again also…meaning this may never happen.

GTA is the hottest game of this generation, without a doubt. If folks don’t think exclusive games sell consoles, they need look no further than GTA for the proof that they most certainly do. Gran Turismo 3 was no slouch in that department either.

That’s one reason I think it’s only a matter of time before Nintendo’s talented developers hit on the “next big thing” again.

I’m pretty sure they say after the release of GTA4 at the end of 2004, which probably means they’ll have to wait until after the Christmas season. So most likely it’s 2005.

Dave’s probably right, though, Sony would be foolish to just let that contract expire just in time for the next generation of console hype. Microsoft announcing an exclusive GTA5 for XBox 2 is not something they want to see happen.

Also, as wumpus said, the PC versions are better.

Mark your calendars folks, someone just agreed with Dave Long and wumpus in a single post.

That’s one reason I think it’s only a matter of time before Nintendo’s talented developers hit on the “next big thing” again.

I guess that whole Zelda/Metroid/Mario thing isn’t working out for the big N.

Seems a bit odd to me. Who doesn’t have a PS2, that has one of the other consoles?

Now, if they had all-new missions, well, that’d be a different story…

I didn’t say that. You’ve become a master of putting words in people’s mouths lately. I’d take Huffman’s insane Smart rantings over your sniping anyday. You act just as ignorantly as he does.

They’ve all worked out fine. Zelda sold 825,000 or something like that in March. The last five days of March. Pokémon did similar numbers between the two carts. The next best seller in March was Tenchu 3 on PS2…which sold like 130,000.

The best selling Xbox game? Your precious console’s best seller was Halo, with some 57,000 pieces.

So yeah, Zelda, Metroid and Mario are doing fine. Not GTA fine, but then again, nothing is doing numbers anywhere near that particular game here in the US, except for other PS2 software.

Me, for one. I have both Xbox and NGC, but no PS2.

Why? Well, when I bought my Xbox, I got it for $199 with two games, and the PS2 was $199 with no games.

When I started at Maxis, I got to expense $100 for any console that we make games for. NGC was $129 + 1 game at Circuit City that week, and the PS2 was $199 with no game. So I got the NGC.

And by then we’ll be playing GTA4 which is supposed to be a PS3 launch title. Woopdie freakin’ do. Nothing people like better than waiting three years to play the hottest games on the planet.

Yup. But I thought GTA4 was supposed to be for the PS2 by the end of next year. Oh well, I still haven’t finished GTA3 on the PC, so no big deal.

I think they might be planning another Vice City-style off-shoot. But it’s hard to say.

I saw one story, might’ve been at GA, which said they’re redoing the whole engine from scratch for the next game so that San Andreas/Los Angeles or whatever it’s going to be called will have an all new game engine running underneath it. It’s also going to be tied into the movie industry…kind of like a GTA: Get Shorty.
