Hey, having to listen to Laura Branigan or Lionel Richie again is enough to drive me into a simulated homocidal rage. Looks like an appropriate soundtrack.

These are some pretty old and rancid rock tunes.

Anyone fooling with this game? If it’s another I82…

The only station that’s remotely interesting is Espantoso.

Licensing so much music, particularly Gen-X echo boomer music you can hear on a half-dozen radio stations right now, was not a great idea. What made GTA3’s soundtrack so good was the offbeat programming and original parody stuff-- not Lionel Richie’s “Dancing With The Night.”

I dunno guys… the V-Rock soundtrack is pretty amazing. Imagine blowing shit up to Peace Sells…

Tesla, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden… all good song choices. I’m looking forward to this game a little bit now.

Dave, maybe I am just Longing for some “non-classic rock” rock songs. All of today’s other hip, popular genres seem to be covered. Where is the Tool, Korn, and all of those faux punk bands like Blink 182 and Sum 41? Something a little fresh, please.

EDIT: I will not delete this as I deserve to be scorned and ridiculed for my stupidity regarding Vice City.

Er, the game takes place in the early 80s. It’s a period piece.

Um…can I go back and delete all of the above posts of mine. I am actually embarrassed. Maybe if I do not post for 2 or 3 days you will all forget and forgive my uninformed ignorance.

You are ClearChannel’s Man-Cunt.

You are ClearChannel’s Man-Cunt.

Weaker than usual. Which is already pretty weak lately.

Funny how you’re always here to post right after I do.

How could you remain ignorant in the face of the media onslaught that is GTA:VC?

OTOH, you do have a point about the rancidness of some of those tunes. I can imagine I will enjoy hearing them once for the sake of nostalgia, but I am probably going to be turning off the radio sooner in Vice City then I did in the original.

You are ClearChannel’s Man-Cunt.

Nah…I just appreciate the more popular stuff as well as things off the beaten path. Music doesn’t suck just because it’s on the radio.

I’m a little surprised at your comment though. What CC station do you listen to that plays Peace Sells, 2 Minutes to Midnight and especially Tesla’s Cumin’ Atcha Live? No way I penalize them for Judas Priest… I’d go to hell and back to see that band. Some would say I already have by attending two shows with Ripper as the lead vocalist!

–Dave

Aside from V-Rock, I won’t be listening to any of the other stations on the cd. The Judas Priest will be good for killing, same with Peace Sells and Slayer, but at what point do you go, “Wow, I’ve already heard this a thousand times before. Nice blast from the past, but it’s just another fm radio station.”

Part of the joke was that GTA’s got it’s own “ClearChannel” now. :/ That and I just wanted to call someone a man-cunt.

Alright then… no problem… I’ll just see your man-cunt and raise you an assnozzle. :)

I agree with your general sentiment. They could’ve been a little more creative. I’d almost rather they chose songs that were lesser known but from similar bands.

As long as they fit the general shit-kicking mood the game is sure to have, I think it can’t be all bad though.

I have selective vision for overpublicized game coverage much like I have selective hearing for my wife.

Hmm. I am impressed with the musical selection in the new trailer:

I’m a sucker for breakbeats. So that makes two interesting radio stations: the spanish one, and the old school hip-hop one.

I was listening to the GTA3 soundtrack at work again, and I’m still disappointed that the majority of the new soundtrack will be well known licensed 80’s songs. What the hell happened to Chatterbox? And as Dave Long pointed out above, they could have at least done some more obscure 80’s stuff to keep it interesting.

Runnin’ with the night… playin’ in the shadows… just you and I… til’ the morning liiiight…

I know Chatterbox will be in the game, but it’s not in the soundtrack, I guess.

OK, there are two talk radio stations.

I’m feeling a bit better about the radio now, but there are still way too many standard licensed 80’s songs on the playlist.

Also, the PC version was confirmed a few days ago. Won’t be out for a while-- obviously-- but again, I wouldn’t rush out and buy a PS2 for the game. Assuming it’s roughly the same quality as the original, it’s worth playing, but it isn’t worth $250.
