GTA3 : Damned frustrating missions

I have become severely frustrated with GTA3 at the moment. I am stuck on two missions in the second city. One where you have to go to three phone boxes within 3 minutes. The other one is where I have to deliver three cars within 5 minutes with no damage.

Damned frustrating missions with time limits - I hate time limits ! :x Is there anyway to turn off these stupid timers ?

So last night I grabbed a flamethrower and played “murder in the subway”. It was a satisfying way of getting back at the bastards.

Has anyone passed these two missions ?

Both of em. For the phones one, you just need a somewhat fast car and the ability to get in and out of it quickly.

For the “jack 3 cars in perfect condition” one, well, the pay and spray is right next door to the garage you have to park em in, so it doesn’t matter what condition they’re in when you get there :)

Sean:

I tend to shy away from the missions where time is a factor. I know the missions your talking about and yea they are a pain in the ass to complete. If you want, just skip that mission where you have to get the cars to the garage in mint condition. I just did a mission for david (?) and now he wan’t me to kill the head of the japanese gang. So guess what? Once I off his ass, I won’t have to do that mission. I doubt the japanese gang will want me to do that mission when I just killed their head guy.

Oh… the other mission where you have to go to the phone booths in 3 minutes time, I was able to do that in a couple of tries. I’m pretty much where your at in the game.

good luck…

:D

Thanks for the advice. How do I skip a mission ? I have only got those two missions on offer.

The phone booth one is easy with a fast car. I think I finished it with about 25 seconds to spare. I highly recommend Banshees for the best combo of acceleration and handling. Top speed is less important. Once you get to the fourth phone (I think it was four), the timer turns off for the last leg.

Union Carbide is right, with the Pay & Spray next door, just drive fast & fix it when you get there. Two of the cars are relatively close, so start with the one farthest away. Doing the mission a few times will teach you where the cars are for better planning.

You really need to do that phone mission because the boss it unlocks eventually gives you a bulletproof car. That bulletproof car made the last mission relatively easy.

Wait until you hit the suicide bomber mission. I think that was the one I had to redo the most. I finally realized the solution to that was to get the hell out of the place you start & blast the guys as they come out of the alleys.

i dont believe there is any way to skip missions, though having won it i can vouch they are all do-able. You may need an edge such as a fast car, or a few practice runs at the mission, but they are all do-able.

for example one of the later missions requires you to run over a dozen or so stalls in a tight time limit, but doesn`t tell you where they are. The trick turns out to be ; you go and spot them, marking them on the map before you hit the first one, whereupon the timer starts.

hindsight is a kind mistress

Shoot, you can run those over? I guess the rocket launcher was overkill.

I managed to get past the phone booth mission with three seconds to spare. I also got through the mission where you have to kill a cop in his car. Completed that one with pure luck. He got out of his car when it was on fire and then got caught in the blast. My five police stars disappeared once I completed the mission.

I am enjoying it a bit more now that I got past the damned phone booth mission.

This is where I got stuck too, until last nite. First time in the game I really hit a wall.

Took me about 7 tries, at least, on the phone booth mission, before I just found better, more direct routes that finally did the job. (I found the cars right where you get the mission to be fast enough…). I still can’t finish the f*(*ing car-stealing mission. Man, you get SO little time, and I keep banging the cars up RIGHT after I get 'em fixed at the joint next door!!
Can I skip this one and still beat the game?

I love this game!

LOL! Even though this game is frustrating as hell I am still loving it. They do seem to have play balanced it just right. Some of the timed missions I have completed with seconds to spare. Certainly leaves you with that breathless feeling.

> for example one of the later missions requires you to run over a dozen or so stalls in a tight time limit

Dumbest mission ever!

Otherwise GREAT game!

etc

The only mission I absolutely could not do was the “collect the donkey porn from the runaway van” mission. It’s one of the Diablo phone missions. Was anyone here able to complete this mission?[/i]

Oh yeah, and one thing I didn’t like about GTA3: I got extremely bored with the whole orienteering side of the game. Going from point A to point B over and over. And over. And OVER! That doesn’t seem like gameplay so much as my commute to work. With carjacking I guess.

See, that’s funny, because to me, that sounds like the perfect game. :D
