I completely missed it! And it sounds more interesting than just salvaging all the junk equipment I pick up.

Best Amazon review ever?

By King of trolls (Under a bridge) - See all my reviewsThis review is from: Guild Wars 2 Digital Deluxe [Pre-Purchase Online Game Code + Early Access] (Software Download)

I am a elite online gamer, I am the best at Call of duty. So I was on the look out for another online game to show my skillz. Guild wars 2 claims to have the best combat in a online game so I bought it. But when I went to equip my sniper rifle to quick scope I find out it’s not even available in this game, what kind of a joke is this?. Instead of killing terrorists, I have to kill 10 bears with a bunch of pansies shooting harry potter style magic out their fingers?

Save your money and buy Black Ops 2 in a few months, only people who lack quick scoping skillz play this game.

Total sarcasm, sorry for not indicating it better. What about config.sys and autoexec.bat? Go big or go home!

How’s the combat system compared to other MMOs?

Doh. That’s actually hilarious; I just wish I had been quick enough to pick up on it.

I still have nightmares about writing batch files to load the various EMS/XMS configurations, plus mouse drivers, etc., for all my DOS games…

I spent two hours not having Join in work for me yesterday. It’s like it read we were all in the same zone, but we were not. Aside from voice acting, it’s the only issue i really have against the game. It’s a blast.

They just applied a new build. Will it fix the guild and trading post issues? Lets find out! (once the login server recovers, obviously)

There are also some bugs with the dungeons, though they don’t start until level 30 so they aren’t hitting a ton of people yet. Not sure if that got fixed in this build or not.

And another build now. Will this be the one to fix guilds and the trading post? Lets watch. (once the login servers recover)

Indeed it is. I have been throwing spare armor and weapons into the forge for a day or so and I’ve gotten some interesting stuff. It’s fun in a “roll the dice and see what we get” sort of way. It will accept 4 of the same quality items (blues, greens) and will (most of the time) give you a random item of the same quality. Sometimes when you throw blues in you get a green back.
If you’re lucky you get a good item. If you’re really lucky you get an item you can use!

I heard a rumor that if you throw 4 items with the same modifier into it you will get something with that modifier back, but I’ve never managed to get 4 of the same thing.

I threw 4 blue shortbows in this evening and got a shortbow back so I’m willing to bet that general rule will work. Should be easy enough to test with crafted items.

I’ve also thrown dyes in and it works identically - throw 4 blue name dyes in and you get a blue name dye back (I did this in a BWE when I had some gems; haven’t done it since launch).

There’s other recipes too, and I heard the forge is used in making the legendary weapons - the vendor who stands next to it (an NPC named Myani, not labeled as a vendor) sells recipes for portions of the weapons and other things - like for example an item that costs 200 skill points!

The first player dungeon is located in the Charr starting area. It is a level 30 dungeon in story mode (which has to be completed first with a group) and then up to a level 35 dungeon for “explore” mode (which I guess is basically for farming loot and xp).

As folks close in on 30, if you didn’t start as a Cat–so pretty much everyone but Tom–head up there and at least get the closest waypoint active so you can get there easily and join the fun!

Damn, and I threw away a lot of things too… Oh well.

I’ve not had issues with the Thief in PvE, though. I think one of the themes of the Thief is evasiveness, which is how you “tank” in this game. If you use double dagger, you’ve got 3 evasive moves if you use the backroll heal. Then, if you have a shortbow, you’ve got 3 casts of the backwards shot, and 2 of the teleport shot. I really love that about this class; so much movement abilities!

When I use the daggers, I take as one of my abilitys the Evasive Roll, or something. It gives Intiative, breaks you out of stuns, and rolls back. Essentially, you can use death blossom or the Cloaking move twice for big damage, then roll back, and steal back instantly, allowing you cast one of them again. It’s great; it is really disruptive and lets you burst down things really quickly…

Well I’ve just had a password reset email on my gw1 account but seeing as Im away on holiday it can’t be me.

Believe it or not but Guild Wars 2 plays great on a controller (rumblepad 2 or xbox). Unlike most MMOs, GW2 doesn’t fill your screen with skills, so it’s easy to assign buttons to everything. And GW2 combat system doesn’t require you to target anything, so swinging an axe will hit anything in its radius.

I’m still getting use to the controls, but it works surprisingly well. Obviously, you can’t do EVERYTHING on a controller; you’ll still need a keyboard to chat and interact with the various menus like auction house, hero screen, etc… But moving, combat, weapon swapping, dodging, looting, map navigation, and more is all here. I would definitely recommend anyone who is interested to at least try it out. :)

First, all credit goes to toddmd2 for making this possible and raising attention to it.

Here’s a little guide on how to get it setup quickly:

  1. Download/install Pinnacle Game Profiler and restart if it asks you.
  2. Add this profile: http://pinnaclegameprofiler.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=4215&d=1346119890 (make sure you tell it to associate with .pin files when it asks you)
  3. Run the game through Pinnacle Game Profiler
  4. Set all your controls to default
  5. Turn off double-tap to evade and make sure autoloot is on. You may want to turn off auto-attack as well.
    6 All done!

Well, someone on another forum explained it in a way that I could better appreciate.

He said “the story is happening to the world, not to you” - and that really put things into perspective.

I’ve started playing using that mindset - and it’s a much more fitting approach.

The more I play, the more I’m starting to enjoy myself. It’s still hard to ignore that the “level cap” will mean the end of power progression - but I’m hopeful their level 80 zone will sustain my interest beyond the cap.

I also played an sPvP tournament with a friend of mine yesterday, and it was great fun.

The best thing, for me, is that the Thief is a perfect match for my playstyle. He’s very fast and very mobile - and he’s all about killing things :)

It might not have the arsenal of WoW - but the actual FEEL of combat is fantastic.

I found a 5 man in the Sylvari area. Not sure it’s level though. The mobs at entrance looked 14-15.

I like the idea that the story is happening to the world. Though there is still some of the ‘every single person is THE special person’ going on, it seems less in your face than a lot of MMO’s.

Loving the Thief, unlikely to play an Alt for awhile. (especially since even at 80 you still earn stuff)

That’s Twilight Arbor, for lvl 50’s and up.

Looks like Cadeucus Manor in the human start area is lvl 40’s.

Go level you slackers!
First level 80 already running around.

Have fun with the game. :)

Is anyone else totally in awe of how they handle updates? I do remember seeing something about a server being down for 30 minutes, but other than that its like magic! I get a notice ingame that there is a new build, and I need to restart the game in 2 minutes…thats it!

Where are the “Maintenance” on 4-8 hours? GONE!
