Funny, I find it extremely hard to stop playing. Yesterday, my friend and I played till 2 am and decided to finish for the day. “Let’s just get that skill point nearby”. Oh, look there is some escort event going on right next to the skill point, let’s quickly finish it. Oh, we finished the escort, let’s just protect the NPC while he is doing his stuff. Holy cow, WTF is that thing?!!! Huge freaking fire elemental kicked asses of like 20 people and now we have to kill it.

… 45 minutes later …

“So, let’s just get that skill point nearby?” :)

I like how you set a rough goal, a target on a map, you go in that direction and all kind of shit starts happening around you. This is the first MMO in a long long time, where I get that exploration excitement. I found so many cool little areas, it’s very rewarding to just go and explore.

The exact same thing happened to me yesterday as well. I was ready to leave, but then I decided to do just another event, find another skill point or vista, then I thought it would be a good idea to level up my crafting since I had collected quite a bit of material… In the end I think I spent at least 1 hour more than I intended.

I saw a guy named “N Word” when the game launched. Not the actual n-word, but “N Word”, which is still plenty tasteless. I right-clicked his name and reported him. I also friended him because I wanted to see if ArenaNet would do anything.

Sure enough, the name was gone before the day was out. Nice work, ArenaNet!

BTW, has anyone seen that huge fire elemental Asura starting zone’s boss killed? The one at the end of Metrica Province. I’ve seen Human zone boss killed as well as the Norn one but this elemental is just crazy hard, no one was even able to get to the shooting distance to it, you get one-shotted by the fire thingies as well as the fire AoEs. I got killed like 5 times and called it a day.

The key with pets is managing them during combat, switching them out before they die. They heal when they’re not in use. So it’s to your benefit to watch their health (along with all the other stuff you’re trying to manage during combat) and regularly switch them out.

Sorry if I’m saying something everyone already knows/understands. Once I took on this attitude towards pets (instead of just having one active and letting it die if it died), it had a big impact.

I wasn’t able to get anywhere close to it. I died many times just trying to revive people on the perimeter. Would love to take the thing down at some point before I am way over leveled (even if you get down leveled automatically by the zone).

One question for those who pre-purchased and have entered their serial code, did you have the numeric portion of your display name changed by the registration form?

Got my boxes in over the weekend so I went to the registration form at register.guildwars2.com. I entered the serial code, said that I already had a Guild Wars account, then entered the login info that I used in all the BWEs. When I finished, it told me my display name was Gedd.7016. When I setup the account for the BWEs, my display name was Gedd.2071.

It’s not a huge deal as it doesn’t seem to have affected anything, but I did post my display name in a thread or two as a contact and it’s weird to have the registration form change that.

A tip for those who don’t already know. When you’re doing explorations for points of interests, vistas, or just harvesting materials, there is a white chevron that points upward or downwards when you get near. This denotes its either above or below you. Its helped me a couple of times when I’ve tried to figure out where to start searching for an entry point.

Sounds like she didn’t like the back rub she’s got from the XCOM pre-order! You need to work on your technique. Or not, next time you need something, just threat her again. :)

Love the game, but…

My group has spent the last 90 minutes trying to zone into the first dungeon together. Every time, someone is left out of our zone. We’ve tried every variation of disbanding, logging, ‘joining’ and such that we can think of. Nothing works.

Can anyone else not confirm their email? Every time it asks me to confirm it when i start the game, i click send, i go to the email, click the link and the link says it is expired or invalid. This is within a minute of getting it.

Also, i preordered from amazon and entered my preorder code to create my account. where do i put the serial code that came with the game? Their news says that i need to enter it but there is nowhere obvious to put it?

For such a highly hyped release, their website seems to be made by the same company that makes the websites of freemium korean mmorpgs.
