Someone tried to change my password on my GW2 account six times this afternoon. They did not succeed but everyone should be wary.

Fighting for resources? Are we sure they even played the game?
I would recommend changing your password to something very secure if it isn’t already. I was getting the same notices and when i logged into the gw2 website I was able to see that there was someone else also logged in from Japan.
I promptly changed my account name and password.
I heard hackers are using the reset password function to find what e-mails do have accounts and then they will just brute force login after that.
I might be missing something, but i was fighting for a mine earlier when someone tried to mine it when i was already next to it.
In any event, is there any way to craft from the collections thing? I thought it was super cool when i could deposit all of my resources to collections while in the wilds with a single click. Then i realized i couldn’t craft from there so i had to take them out again each time i wanted to craft?
That certainly doesn’t make much sense.
Good thing they have that email authentication thing when someone from a different location tries to log in to your account. OH WAIT, their email activation doesn’t even work! How fucking embarassing is that for a major development company to not even be able to do a simple validate email email.
I’m tempted because of the Hall of Monuments, but I really feel like the game suffers solo - they do compensate somewhat with AI controlled heroes and henchmen, but the game plays better with at least two PCs, that way there’s two folks behind the wheel, each with the maximum three proper hero NPCs (henchmen are not nearly as useful as heroes, as they don’t level with you and don’t let you customize their build or directly control them much.). And right at present I have no one to play with me.
Somebody else gathering a resource node doesn’t make it go away on you. You have your own personal respawn timer on all of them instead. (Which is also why you’ll see people run up and try to harvest something that’s already gone on your screen.)

This exactly, which is why I am wondering if the reviewer played the game. Resources don’t go away because someone gets to it first in this game… which is pretty much a first in MMOs, maybe, at least compared to the games I play. So it is almost a safe bet to assume resources are fought for, but they’re not. If it is something that respawns like a bucket of water or something “heart” specific, respawns are hell fast.
I always go into an MMO with a group of 3 or more. Since I am the solo player, they usually pick the server which may or may not be tied to some guild. If the game is kind of fun but most are not interested, for whatever reason, my sister will almost always play with me. I love games that are pair friendly for the reason.

You are not fighting for the resource. If someone else is mining it, it disappears for him, but not for you.
The send to collections thing is to avoid having your bags filled with items you need, saving you the pointless timesink of going back and forth to the bank. When you are at a crafting station, you just move everything over to your inventory - It takes less than 5 seconds to do so.
Anyone who pre-purchased this figure out where to actually input the boxed serial? Don’t see a place on the website, the launcher, or in game… so do I just wait until I get kicked off and it explicitly asks for one?

How do you guys do in PVP, when you are there alone, so to speak? I’m really really REALLY missing Warhammer Online’s Open Grouping, as that would fit perfectly into how they did things, instead of having to beg for a spot in any groups. Its not very fun.

I downloaded Raidcall too, hopefully we can use that next time :D
These days in GW1 you can have a team of seven customizable AI heroes. This allows for some extremely overpowered party set-ups. Basically take a couple of mesmers for interrupts, a couple of necromancers for minions and a couple of ritualists for spirits. You will flood any battle with so many targets that the enemy mobs will not know what to target. Mix in some healing and a bit of extra damage and you will roll over anything.
Apart from a few missions which benefit from splitting, or some of the more challenging hard mode quests, this has made the game very easy to solo. Generally, during a battle I let the heroes manage everything and occasionally cast assassin support spell if I’m paying attention to the game and not reading a webpage while they are fighting.
Getting back onto subject with the sequel, I got round to doing a full exploration of Lion’s Arch last night. I don’t want to give anything away but the surprise area was fantastic. I hope the rest of the game is littered with secrets like that. If you haven’t already done so, I’d recommend anyone to go straight to LA and tick off all the map points.

There are some nice build here that should help you decide where to invest you points.
Absolutely. I’ve bought some figurine and CE’s in the past and I’m pretty satisfied with this one. The detail on the figurine is crazy and the entire package seems pretty filled. I’m not going to take it out of the box yet.
Ok, you know how it was cool that Skyrim had dragons…but after a while they just got to be another mob and a fairly easy kill?
A dragon just flew over my li’l level 42 head a moment ago. I’d say it was big, but I’m not sure that captures the epic-ness of it. I have no idea how hard they are to kill or how much they hit for–I’m guessing it’s a whole lot in any case–but I am saying that this dragon looked like it eats Skyrim dragons for breakfast.

During the Beta while exploring in Queensdale I was killing some Skale when all of a sudden the shadow of a dragon hit the ground. It freaked me out and I looked into the air but I didn’t see anything. It was probably just a small effect that occurs randomly but man did it set the tone for the rest of the game.
You don’t really NEED to be in a group in WvW, just go to one of the crossed swords icons on the map and there will be some fight. That’s for now.
Later on, we will start seeing more and more Commanders in the field. Commanders have the ability to create these open groups and everyone can join them. Commanders are visible on the map as well as the “squadmates” IIRC and the “squad” has its own chat channel.
The only problem with Commanders is that it costs 100g to buy. ANet wanted to avoid the situation when dozens of commanders are running around in WvW and this price will ensure that only the most dedicated and, most likely, guild sponsored people will ever get to be commanders. Should make the Commander “title” more meaningful and safe for people to follow. It should also allow for the few commanders to know each other, talk to each other and come up with common tactics in WvW.
Unfortunately the side effect is that we will have to wait maybe a couple of weeks before we start seeing them. Especially with Trading Post not working.
What’s interesting is that gear/stats wise downscaling works in the same way upscaling for WvW works. If your gear is mediocre at lvl 30, you go to lvl 12 area, get downscaled to lvl 12 and your stats are still mediocre!
In the beginning of the evening yesterday I noticed that natural Critical Chance was at 30% but due to downscaling it was at 29%. After helping a friend in a low level zone, I leveled up twice IIRC without upgrading my gear and my natural Critical Chance went down to like 25% and downscaled it was at about 23%.
Funny thing is that I was naturally expecting to decimate the “low” level mobs and yet it wasn’t the case. Only when I looked at the stats I realized why. It’s quite a chance from other games when a lvl 33 character is having issues with lvl 16 mobs. :)
This BTW is one of the disadvantages of going to lower level zones to play with your friends. You are not leveling up in your zone, so you don’t open your level appropriate hearts, so you don’t get access to your level appropriate gear. You also don’t get your level appropriate are crafting mats, so you can’t level up your crafting either.
This would of course be somewhat alleviated if Trading Post worked. I could sell some of the tier one crafting mats (I have TONS of them) and buy some gear but alas. Trading Post worked for me yesterday for about 10 minutes and then it went down for maintenance again.
There is also cultural armor, of course, but I think it’s level 40. Gotta check. Oh and I can return to my personal quest, which I stopped at around lvl 21. This gotta provide me with some upgrades.
I often wish I could simply disable leveling up when I am playing with my low level friends.
This functionality definitely presents a new set of challenges to think about. :)
Well, they’ve put a video up to show you where to do it:

… because I guess someone thought those hoops were necessary?
As mentioned once previously, registering your release serial changes the little number after your account name, which is irritating.
Well, that might explain why I was getting my butt kicked last night when downleveled from level 20 to around 6. I was seeing that when I equipped new items, even my downleveled stats were still increasing so hey, I should still be even more powerful than I was when I was actually level 6! But I didn’t catch what effect gaining levels had on it as well, and I haven’t left the 1-15 areas yet, so I don’t actually have level 20-appropriate gear yet…
