That’s correct. From what I recall, gear drops less frequently when downleveled, but you get level-appropriate gear. You also get bonus loot drops for fighting higher level mobs and it seems to be pretty substantial. I was fighting L47 centaurs (as a L40-41 Mesmer) and getting drops like crazy.

Last night I spent about 90 minutes farming bats and skales for weak blood in Queensdale.

Correction! The gear I got was level-appropriate…

…but all absolute salvage. Nothing you’d be caught alive in in WvW, that’s for sure.

Really? I was farming bandits and crap around L30 and I swear I was finding blues in the mid 20’s.

How fun is GW2 solo? I fully intend to join Qt3 folks once in a while, but I haven’t heard too much feedback about the solo experience.

I play solo a fair bit and find it quite enjoyable. The Dynamic Events work well solo because there’s no need to join groups in order to do them.

Blues don’t really cut it though.

Yes, you do “level appropriate” gear dropped by mobs but 99% of it is of lower quality compared to the stuff you can get from heart vendors for karma.

At lvl 33 I haven’t seen anything dropped that would replace my lvl 25 (IIRC) karma Seraph armor set.

The real joy of this game is there is no real soloing. Sure you can ignore the other players but you don’t have to. You cannot steal kills or harvest nodes, events just add you when you start helping, you get xp for reviving fallen players so while you can play pve with a group there is really no need because you will generally find yourself in a group most of the time anyway.

It’s a lot of fun. You will rarely be truly solo though, there are tons of people running around now.

These days in GW1 you can have a team of seven customizable AI heroes. This allows for some extremely overpowered party set-ups. Basically take a couple of mesmers for interrupts, a couple of necromancers for minions and a couple of ritualists for spirits. You will flood any battle with so many targets that the enemy mobs will not know what to target. Mix in some healing and a bit of extra damage and you will roll over anything.

Apart from a few missions which benefit from splitting, or some of the more challenging hard mode quests, this has made the game very easy to solo. Generally, during a battle I let the heroes manage everything and occasionally cast assassin support spell if I’m paying attention to the game and not reading a webpage while they are fighting.

Hmm. Either they added that since I last went back or I just don’t -have- seven heroes (probably the latter). I’d still rather have a partner, though!

Bah, you have a different definition of “cut it” than I do, my friend. :D I fight monsters several levels higher than me and do fine in WvW, and my gear is… very substandard (still have a L27 pistol and I’m L41).

Hehe, yeah.

I certainly don’t get killed left and right, well, I don’t get killed almost at all, really.

It’s just the gear whore in me (raised by various other MMOs) demands to keep my gear “up to level”. If I wear the lvl 25 tier gear and I know there is level 30 gear, I can’t help it but feel the need to upgrade. :)

I guess, it’s hard to break the old conventions. The game doesn’t require me to gear up to be able to move to the next “level” of encounters but I still feel the need to. Funny.

I had that problem last night (I am in US).

At first I thought maybe I was hacked because my password was unrecognized. But I remember that they were doing some type of maintaince around that time.

Earlier that day I received six emails about someone trying to change my password, now I suspect that the email was phony and trying to get my password. Has anyone actually changed their password using the email authentication? Anet states they will not ask any login info just a link to confirm a change?

I’m a bit paranoid that my account was hacked, but can’t take any action because their reset feature is not working.

Assuming this is a server issue, I sure wish they’d flash a more helpful message somewhere when they are having issues.
