They disabled the reset feature because people were using it to farm for account names by seeing which ones sent emails and therefore were valid accounts.

They’ve said they’ll turn it back on when they have email authentication working in the next day or so.

This may seem like an odd question, but will early story quests lead me to the main cities and places like Lion’s Arch? I’m fighting altoholism lately, so I haven’t gotten very far on any one character, and even then I haven’t done much with the personal storyline. Will all the starting zones eventually give me a “Go see this guy in our capital city” quest, or a “Hey drop this off for me in Lion’s Arch”?

I realize that people have been talking about all the cool stuff in the capital cities, and Lion’s Arch especially, but I’m wondering if I should go looking for those places on my own, or if I’ll end up there organically by just going through my personal storyline.

By the sounds of it, no.

All of the personal stories send you through Lion’s Arch regardless of any other factors. You won’t however get sent to the capital cities of other races.

Oh yeah, I wouldn’t expect to get sent to other races’ capital cities. But I would expect to end up in my own capital city early on (that is one of the parts of WoW that I really liked!). Glad to know that I will also end up in Lion’s Arch eventually!

By the way, I helped Flannum in the game the other day. I hope that somehow you got some XP out of the deal.

Speaking of personal storylines, is there any indication about what level you should be to undertake part of your personal quest? I haven’t seen any level recommendations so far, but I definitely feel like some chapters have been harder than others.

Okay fine, one more question: I only got my little Rytlock mini on one character; the other characters on my account get the ring and golem banker, but no Rytlock, no chalice, and no guild boost book. In fact, my other characters get two email messages, but one of them is empty. So my question is A) how do I use Rytlock on another character, and B) am I not supposed to get the chalice and guild book on my other characters?

The number is parentheses next to your objective is the recommended level.

Also, it’s the level of the “area” of your personal instance, so if you’re above it, you’ll notice that you’re downgraded to that level when you play through it. So, you should probably only wait if you feel you’ve got inferior gear – otherwise, you’re not buying anything by outlevelling it.

How does one get to other races starting areas? I know how to get to their capitals but as an example, Divinity, is a huge city, and I have no idea how to get to the starting area from there.

I want to go pick up all the “easy” skill points in each starting area if I can figure out how to get to each one.

The easiest way to travel to other cities is to “abuse” the heart of the mists. Press H, go to the PVP tab, teleport to heart of the mists. Run through the tutorial section (due north) if that’s your first time there.

Once you get into the main Heart area, you’ll see a gigantic portal. That portal will take you to Lion’s Arch. Once in there, go north half a map and you’ll see a bunch of portals to the west. There is one portal there for each of the capital cities.

Look for portals out. There usually aren’t that many of them unless it’s Rata Sum. You can hold down ctrl to check where the portal goes when you are close.

Starting area out of Divinity is straight south from the portal. There are huge passages at each of the cardinal directions heading out from the center of the city – just take the south one.

In general, Capital city -> Lion’s Arch -> Other Capital City is pretty easy peasy. If you can’t find the starting area from the capital city, zoom out your map, and you should see where it starts.

Thanks everyone!

Wow, Anet just disabled sales of Guild Wars 2!

Unfortunately I don’t see any kickbacks off of that whole Divinity’s Reach dam business.

With regards to the Rytlock mini, chalice, and tome of influence (guild boost book), they are all considered “account upgrades” of sorts and can only be used once. In particular with the Rytlock we wanted him to be a rare item that people could choose to trade later if they so desired so you can only create him once on the account… be careful not to delete him! The other two items both give your account a one time boost. The Chalice gives you a flat amount of Glory which is the account based structured PvP currency used to buy PvP reward chests and the Tome gives whichever guild you are currently representing a flat amount of influence.

Finally, some information: Guild Wars 2 status - Thursday, August 30. That was baffling. Either my account was compromised or ArenaNet broke it, hard to tell because I know I didn’t screw up my password myself.

So how does that work? I had him following me around once; does that mean I can no longer trade him? Can I put him in my bank and use him with my other characters? How do I bring him out in the first place?

The market was up briefly again for 25% of the population. Buy and sell orders were coming in from anywhere between 4 and 9 cents per iron ore unit.

I doubled my money in about 10-15 minutes. :)

Hopefully the auction house comes back online so I can steal even more money =)

Yeah huge variability in prices. I sold a bunch of ore for 34, while my same room friend decide to sell out for 20. I should have just sat around and played commodities :o I could only use it briefly though.

Frustrating. 24+ hours after the login issue first hit me and 9+ hours after using their webform to request a password reset, nada. Guess we’re not looking as quite as good an SLA as I’d been hoping for, dangit.

I dunno, my game has been working perfectly every night. I think it just must be the sheer amount of people messing everything up.
