I really don’t think you will be able to get that achievemet by sitting in one place and farming. Each event at a 50ish level zone gives 3k exp, the hearts maybe 4k. That will take a LONG LONG time. I got it last night from crafting. If you really want to do it, i’d suggest getting a large amount of crafting mats on the trading house, along witha crafting exp booster, and just letting loose.
About the patch notes, I really like having them. I can live without them, but it will really irk me if they don’t release them >.<. Also, the daily updates are nice, but they aren’t specific. I don’t think they need to give patch notes every small patch, but when they say “signifigant update”, i’d like to know what ot means. Oh well, i think eventully they will release some patch notes

The “significant update” was referring to server side changes to help stability and other issues. Not a significant feature/bug update. It was clarified by an ArenaNet employee on reddit, but I don’t have the link at hand.
So I gave in and ordered a box from Amazon. Given my crappy home Internet, I’m probably not losing too much time that way anyway. I guess it is getting toward the cold part of the year.

Winter is coming.
Spend it playing GW2. I wish we had bad weather here in CA so I’d have an excuse to stay in all day on weekends and game with my kids…
Harumph to wikis! Just buy different skills and test them out. I’m still delighted to discover new things with my engineer through a combination of dinking around and asking folks in guild chat. Someone (Zenchess, I think?) explained to me how shields works, and I was immediately won over! What a great way to do shields in an MMO! I’ve gone from being a rifle aficionado to a pistol-packin’/shield-slinging engineer. Guild Wars 2 really wants to let you test and try different ways to play. It’s all about just messing around with the tools you have to see what works.
That said, any engineer who doesn’t spend at least half his time rocking a flamethrower is missing out on one of the great joys in life!

See, it’s shit like that that makes me wish SO HARD that the game actually spent some time introducing you to different things. It’s counterintuitive to equip my engineer with a shield (unless it’s, like, a techno-shield or something). Plus, I didn’t even know there were flamethrowers.
Also, I tend to get crippled with indecision any time more than, say, three options are presented to me (which is really just adding to the problem).
I’m looking less for a build guide and more for a place that says, “Hey, you’re an engineer, right? Did you know you can build turrets at level X and equip flamethrowers? Let me tell you about this cool interaction you get when you equip a gun and a shield…”
I’ll have to play around with it some tonight.
I must be one of the unlucky ones, as I’ve been getting hit with all kinds of annoying bugs. I haven’t been able to progress in my personal story for days (can’t interact with an NPC it’s telling me to), one of the quest rewards gave me a jewel that doesn’t actually work, and characters around the world are constantly bugged, impeding progress.
I don’t play many MMOs, so perhaps this stuff is common, but it’s definitely a bummer after experiencing Guild Wars 1’s super smooth launch.
On the other hand, you could say that the game allows you to discover these things without leading you by the nose. There is the Weapon Skills page which shows you (very elegantly, I might add) what skills you haven’t unlocked. If you’re curious about what your character can do, that’s where I would go first.
I might get excited about the game if I heard about some secret area, but that doesn’t mean I want the game to direct me there. Plus, then what would message boards discuss?
Yeah, I hear you, Bradley. But it does a mostly good job with the skills by only letting you consider a handful of skills at a time as you level up. The flamethrower is one of your skills, so you’ll be introduced to it in due time. At which point the tooltips mostly guide you through how it works.
But I’m with you 100% with the shield thing. I didn’t understand that it’s completely different from the usual “press a button” mechanic for most skills. It has options to interrupt its own powers for special secondary uses, which was all new to me. I don’t recall seeing that in an MMO before and it’s made playing as a pistol/shield engineer a real delight that I would have missed if Zenchess hadn’t clued me in.
-Tom
P.S. Wait until you get to the elixir gun! It’s my new favorite toy.
So how do shields work? And are they different from how warrior shields work? I think they get a bash and a protection skill.
I totally dig this game. I am playing a ranger, but I think I would enjoy any profession given enough time with it. I really dig the limited number of skills per weapon. Even though there are a lot of different possible combinations, I like that I only have to learn 1-5 for any given set. And I remapped 7 and 8 to Q and E, which has helped me immensely.
My favorite moment was when Orsson and I climbed this enormous and difficult jumping puzzle in the Sylvan starting area and were rewarded with a chest and a hidden area with another chest. It felt special to have stuck with the many, many bad camera angles on impossible looking jumps and feel like not everyone will make it to this cool place before giving up.
I should clarify that I’m really enjoying the game, and if this degree of exploration and discovery extends into the mid- and late-game, I’ll be pleased as punch.
A little bit more hand-holding in what is essentially the tutorial zone (which doesn’t seem unreasonable) is all I’m craving.

That’s awesome! Do you know where it was?
Ah, I bet you’re right that it’s different for other classes. As an engineer, I get a hunker down option, which I can interrupt for an awesome knockback ability to put some space between me and my target. I can also electrify my shield, which I can interrupt by throwing the shield, Captain America style. But shields have a damage rating. Does that affect the shield fling ability? I don’t think so, but I could be wrong. I need to look at the numbers more closely.
I’m a little fuzzy on how damage is determined in several situations like this. For instance, my weapons have damage ratings. Clear enough. But what’s the deal with my flamethrower, which is based on a skill that replaces the weapon? How do I boost that damage? By adding to my condition damage with gear?
I get that MMOs stats are often complicated, but I wish they would trust me a bit more when I’m ready to dig into the numbers. First Secret World and now Guild Wars 2 give me a really cool combat system, but I often don’t get all the information I need to really finesse it the way they want me to.
I’ve been tempted to do this for some of my F1-F4 abilities, but how do you strafe if you’re using your Q and E key for something else? You know what, screw it! I’m remapping F1-F4 to the Z, X, C, and V!
-Tom
I’m using Z-B for my utility skills, still haven’t found any place to put my F1-F4 that works better than F1-F4. I refuse to learn some new 322 button mouse or gadget.

I’m struggling for gold. i’m now level 11 and only had 5 silver and need 10 for my adept training. I actually have 2 points unsued still as I can’t aford it yet. Any ideas hwo to approach this, I dont buy mch tbh
Just continue to play through the game. As you level up, your income increases with it, both from quest rewards and enemy drops.
I’m struggling with my cable. Everytime I pop up GW2, or WoT, or Netflix, my modem dies. It’s GREAT FUN.
I think that’s par for the course, Reemul. I had to grind a bit for my first manual. Do you have a bunch of stuff stocked up in collectibles that you can sell? Otherwise, just get out there and do some heart missions and events!
By the way, I really like the longer term moneysinks in this game. Instead of just a mount, you can spend your money on gear at the trading post, extra storage space, or even more character slots. It all feels very fair to me.

If you’re desperate for the cash, use the Trading Post. Those “tiny” crafting ingredients sell pretty well currently. But for the most part, I wouldn’t stress it too much. Only one of my characters has actually been able to buy the book right at ten, the others have usually ended up waiting a few levels.
