I’d be happy to be wrong, but as near as I can tell, there’s no indication that to do this, you have to interrupt the skill’s charge-up. That’s where I got tripped up. As I said, I’m not aware of any precedent for skills working this way in other MMOs, so I’m grateful someone explained it to me.

I’m not sure if the flamethrower is good, but I am sure that it is hilarious. Especially on an Asura.

Any advice on how to assign trait points as an Engineer or Elementalist? Also are these easily changeable if I am unhappy with things later? What about those choice hexes at 10, can you repick them at will or does it lock in when I choose it once?
So far I have put points into critical chance as the engy and fire as the ele, but I am starting to get a stack of points that I am afraid to use as I am unsure how or if I can reverse it.
You can respec your traits pretty easily. I believe it scales in cost like most mmorpgs, but it starts pretty low. There is just some trainer that you pay a small fee to to respec traits. Forgot where, but on the map as a big icon.
My 20 engineer is full explosives and liking it pretty well. I doubt i will stay it at higher levels, but for low levels it seems pretty fun to drop bombs as i dodge and to spam grenades everywhere (something that often gets me killed if i’m not super careful since for some reason that i assume is a bug, groups of enemies don’t like when you throw handfuls of grenades in their faces).
I tried firearms but it was a bit bland and trying to improve turrets seems pointless early on since they mostly suck for leveling.
Safe pick is to always put it in whatever you gives the most +power!
You can repick the 10 talent at will (well out of combat). If you rebuy the book (first one is 10s) you can repick all talents. So I think at 40 when you buy the next book, you will get a chance to repick them all anyway.
And oh, if you want to look that talents over in game, you can go to the mists (pvp) and freely reset and repick to your hearts content
You don’t need to buy the book again, there is a respec trainer for SUPER cheap. i doubt it is even one silver the first time, but i can’t remember since i did it a while ago.
If you go to WvW, the respec trainer is right there. As is a trading post. Really only useful if you have short queues I guess.
Somehow I completely managed to forget about double binding keys with shift. Now I feel like an ignoramus, but ignorance is bliss and so I’m gonna go happily rearrange all my keys now. Thanks a bunch.

You can also respec the traits for cheap at the same guy(s) who sells the book (without needing to re-buy the book).
btw thief with healing/stealth spec is easy mode in pvp :o
I just died only once in like 4-5 pvp matches after switching into it. Before I was very average in k/d with a more damage oriented setup.
For talent, I put 30 in the stealth/healing arena, 30 in the last stealing/condition damage area (with upgrades to steal), and 10 into acrobatics (for faster stealth movement). Mainly run around using pistol + dagger offhand, either spamming 4 to slow people, or killing via backstab + pistol out of stealth to bleed people to death. I use the 2 area stealth slot skills with the quicker cooldown talent on them, as well as the +movement speed sigil. The +2 initiative per stealth is key as well.
A minority of the time I will switch into sword/pistol. This is used for either interrupting (when people are trying to heal or raise downed players, either #1 out of stealth or #3 up close, #4 far away) or chasing down enemies (when steal is on cooldown switch and #2 will catch up and immobilize).
I changed my pvp item spec to reflect this all-around durability and healing approach – replaced all my sigils and amulet with divinity. For weapon upgrades, I set my sword/pistol alt to have effects that proc on switch. My main has one healing proc and a lifesteal proc.
anyway the above is an easy way to play, I think people had previously expressed confusion about thief. Lots of people seem to be playing naked damage characters, but I find spreading stat points around including some durability is both easier to play, and wins in most stand-up fights.
SPvP really needs more maps. I really like the maps that are there but cycling through them the way it does really hurts my enjoyment. I’d much rather stick with one map for a few rounds.

I went with a build I’ve seen a few times, which is full venom build. 30 into power, 30 into the middle one, and then 10 into acrobatics or the steal trees. Get every venom related skill, and then take Scale venom, devourer venom, and ice drake venom. Pistol / dagger and shortbow. I think I went 15 matches in a row with top player. You do so much damage with regular auto attacks, and are so slippery and hard to kill, that you really don’t need any vitality. You can just stay in the fight forever and whittle them down. Also, with Thieves Guild up, you can solo anybody (because venom spreads to those guys too!)
EDIT: Woot! They added patch notes! http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/zhpua/guild_wars_2_status_thursday_september_6/

Since you guys are talking about keybinding: Great video about “Optimizing Hotkeys, Keybinds and Moving Efficiently” (via). Very well thought out and informative.

Tbh I don’t think I have seen any messages, normally they just end and the heart turns yellow. Am I doing something wrong, I will check this out later. Cheers
Reemul, when you complete a heart quests (and possibly others?) you get an obsequious thank you letter in your inbox with money attached. Don’t delete it before you “Take all” or you’ll be less rich.
I checked out the Human starting area and noticed the city was right next to the starting area. But with the Asura, I’m nearly level 7 and have yet to run into their city. As such, I have yet to find a profession trainer. Is this normal?

The Asura city is Rata Sum, the opening area where you began, and then eventually entered Metrica Province, where you’ve been adventuring. The lowest level of Rata Sum is the crafting area.
