In Warhammer Online, of course, it was the Renown Rank carrot that people chased, accounting for the endgame zerging. The pattern with MMOs these days has been to add in some sort of post-cap leveling treadmill, so maybe GW2 will be on that as well.
Past lvl 80 event rewards:
Exp you get from events is used to get skill points - every time you would have leveled up past 80, you get a skill point. Skill points are needed for various Mystic Forge recipes, including Legendary weapons (need 200 skill points to craft one Legendary weapon), upgraded siege equipment, etc.
Karma you get from events is used to get cultural weapons (and you need A LOT) and maybe other things I don’t know about.
Coin, well, coin is always useful - mats for Mystic Forge, cultural armor IIRC, gems, siege equipment, etc.
What are those badges (or whatever they are called) used for? The ones you loot from killed players in WvW.
There are weapon and armour vendors at the entry point to a WvW zone that take them. You need 200+ per item, although you get them from the Veteran defender NPCs as well as players.

Honour badges can be used to buy gear and siege equipment. I recall seeing a level 60 ish set of gear that cost between 180-300 honour. They were too expensive for me when I could have used the gear. I wish this currency was really “autoloot” instead of having to press a key when the loot bag drops at your feet. Who has time to pay attention to bag drops in the heat of battle? I must have lost 100s of honour badges due to not having the time to hit the loot key because I was in a fight.

When I ran through the Dredge Mines in EB after we befriended them, I could buy their siege equipment with the badges. Prices were between 2 and 20 badges, depending on what I wanted. The siege golem may have been 100, I do not rightly remember.

“Castle lord, bodyguards, and capture point for Stonemist Castle moved to the first floor.”
Interesting. And a welcome change. Though they could have just put a roof on the second floor and just as easily solved the problem.

Wait, is “first floor” the ground floor, or the floor above the ground floor? If it’s the ground floor, that’s a pretty drastic blow to Stonemist defenders.

Yeah and really negates the whole design. Unfortunate.

I assume it’s a temporary fix while they deal with abilities that have deal damage from above. I hope they’ll put it back.

Also, it would be nice if it were actually currency instead of being an inventory item.

I don’t necessarily disagree, but that’s how they do the rewards for both kinds of PvP and for all the dungeons. Since there are already so many other currencies – gold, xp, skill points, karma, trait points – I wonder if additional currencies for sPvP, WvW, and each of the eight dungeons would be too complicated.
But I have to say that so far, the one thing I’m tempted to spend real world money on is more bank space. They’re walking a fine line there!

To me, the complication is already there. Moving it to a separate tab that doesn’t take up bag or bank space (especially if it autolooted) just makes it less of a hassle to deal with. And other MMOs that operate that way, such as WoW, have had quite a few currencies so I’d wager players would be able to handle it. It’s an especially odd choice when you consider that they’ve effectively done this with crafting materials, which -do- usually get left to take up space in one’s bag or bank, and which are far more numerous.
tomchick
3815
Actually, yeah, it could go in a nice little panel with the crafting materials and minipet collectibles. You win this debate, malkav, but I’ll get you next time!

Sure they could do that, but I bet they want to have people buy more bank space… Wouldn’t you?
It’ll be easier once people get their 20 slot bags and stuff.
I just read a thread about what is needed to get legendarys… And hot DAMN that is a huge investment…
malkav11
3817
If “encouraging” real money investment in bag/bank space were their goal, surely they’d have made crafting materials take up slots?
JM1
3818
It’s a balancing act. Doing that would be going way too far the other way.
Yeah, they certainly want people to spend more money on the game, but they don’t want to irritate people at the same time. So far so good for me. I find the Black Lion chests mildly irritating because I have a bunch now and no keys for them, but other than that there’s nothing I’m tempted to buy. And at $1.57 per key I’m not in the least tempted to buy keys.

I played a Thief to L29, now only logs on to craft 8 slot bas for my Mesmer.
Felt the Mesmer took off at L10. I let my health drop to a sliver as a downed Mesmer can kill her way out of trouble, very unlike the Thief.
NEXT Asura Warrior or Engineer?
