Maybe I’ll try different key bindings as you suggest, but for now (at L20) I’m only attached to the Flamethrower Kit and my elixirs, and I almost never use regular weapons. So I’m basically happy with the ` key bind workaround because I’m already trained to use it with my Thief.

If I end up enjoying the Bomb or Med Kits as well, once I unlock them later on, maybe I’ll start playing the way you play. (I didn’t really like the Grenade Kit much, but we’ll see.)

I typically roll male characters in MMOs. I’d rather there be no character/player gender confusion when meeting new people online. Race: whatever looks most interesting and unique. I.e., not human. Sometimes, if the races don’t matter much to the actual gameplay, I’ll pick whatever amuses me, like my hulking cow deathknight. Tauren look really silly undead with glowing eyes and dark runic armor.

For GW2, I eventually plan to have at least one character per race, with classes ideally as unlikely for that race as possible. i.e. I thought being a fire-oriented elementalist was a particularly bad idea for a sentient plant, so that’s my Sylvari.

I’m equal opportunity and roll both males and females. I don’t need to validate my sexuality with theories of looking at some characters butt for hundreds of hours. I can stop to appreciate that a female or male character looks good in some armour I just found from time to time. Most of the time, I am too busy fighting to notice.

I’ve been sticking to the smaller races, as the slow run speed in the game just feels that much worse on a large character.

I bounce back and forth between picking something appropriate to the race (like a charr warrior), and picking a non-standard combination (like an asura guardian). I did just make a human male character though (human guardian) because I actually want to see what the hulking armor looks like on a decent-sized character. Can’t wait to get a high-level charr warrior!

Although they both describe the same thing, saying “I am more interested in the other aesthetic options for the character” sounds better than “It can be fun to play dress-up with the girls.” That said, I agree with both statements.

Haha, sooo true. I come from DCUO and oh boy, do I miss super-speed… There I can literally jump over houses and in GW2 its just a pathetic hop with my main, a human thief. It doesn’t feel as bad on my tiny Asura Warrier though.

That’s racist. The head of The Vigil (or at least one of their high-ranking officers) is a female asura warrior. Call her non-standard and see what happens.

She’d probably just agree and call you sub-normal.

That is a guide to making a legendary greatsword. All the legendarys have similar buildups. MY GOD, that is one hell of a grind.

I’m just saying that most asura that I see are usually washing dishes or waiting tables.

As with what happened with my time in WoW, by the time I’m even near step 1 of that series, that sword will be sub-par compared with regular drops in the expansion/new areas.

I am glad there are crazy stretch goals. There is no need to have those weapons but a nice accomplishment if you do.

Unlike WoW, that sword is for looks rather than stats. You won’t be gimped if you never complete it.

Oh wonderful they have locked some of the mats required behind an immense Ascalon Catacombs grind. Forget it. ><

I’ve tried many times to complete Ascalon Catacombs in story mode (even at lvl 76!) and failed. I had no problems with Cadaceus Mansion which seems to be tuned very well. Ascalon Catacombs is a horrible instance to introduce to the beginner.

The problem is the game outside of the 5-man’s is a casual gamers paradise. Most people are face rolling the content and having a grand old time.

Then you hit Ascalon and the game expects you to coordinate and plan with 4 other people (you better hope they are fellow guildies on voice comms), juggle specs, juggle gear, have cooking consumables, and understand how cross class combos work (which still hasn’t been explained adequately by ArenaNet). People don’t even know how their own personal skill combos work.

It also seems major parts of the storyline reside in these 5-man instances which is a shame as most people seem to be permanently turned off the 5-man’s once they’ve wiped 50 times in Ascalon. And now the legendary content is locked in there as well. Last but not least there is an immense gold grind. I thought I was travelling well having saved up 5 gold. LOL!

Maybe this is meant to be completed over a period of a year or more? I guess if I was playing the game 12 hours a day it could be achieved reasonably quickly.

Well that is just one of the weapons (greatsword). For a different weapon, the mats will be similar but different. So, yeah…
Also, i don’t believe the weapons will ever lose their top tier ness. Like said previously, the weapon is just a skin. They have special particle effects and such, I believe, but if you end up at that point, the best idea will probably be to transmophify the skin onto a weapon with the desired stats. Plus, i dont think arenanet will go past this cap that spvp has imposed.

I might eventully reach this, but it is no longer a goal for me. That is going to take me atleast 500 hours, i’d bet.

I normally don’t ever roll a female toon. My kids find it odd, and usually there is no real reason to do so. However, since GW2 is very much a “pretty princess simulator” I’ve actually seen a reason to do so. The other reason as I stated is that I have mostly norn/humans, so it is for variety.

As for the other races - in most fantasy games I’m a dwarf. Always. See WoW - 9 of em. But in GW2, the asura are totally awesome but being one is a pain (camera too low). With Charr I dislike 4-legged running. Make it upright and I’d reconsider. Sylvari I have nothing against, but will likely save it for a necromancer - just don’t have the slots right now.

I also have this weird OCD thing going where I want my ‘main’ to be the one with all the dyes, dress up options, etc. So, the prettiest pretty princess. But I have troubles sticking with a main, and fear rolling an ‘ugly’ character and discovering I like it the best :P

I have one of every race and also an even split of male/female characters. I did not roll a male asura as I don’t really like the angry ugly gnome look. My favorite are the Charr so my main that gets the most love (and all the mats) is my male charr engineer.

I re-rolled my thief (originally a human) as an Asura female as I love the way she jumps around like a crazy Yoda.

I suppose a discussion of gender identity in video games is beyond the scope of this thread, but I find it interesting that kids (or people in general) would find it “odd” to choose a character of the opposite sex. Back when I used to play Street Fighter, friends would think it was funny when I picked Chun Li, but they didn’t bat an eye when I picked Blanka. I guess I have more in common with a green furry monster than a girl. I mean, no one thinks it’s strange when you choose a superhero, or a starship captain, or a sentient blob of paint, or a hyperintelligent shade of the color blue. But apparently a female is something odd and unnatural.

I usually “play my kids” as toons in the games I play. I have 4 kids, so that means 4 alts with professions matching their personalities. It also means I play 2 boys and 2 girls.

However, for my main, I typically go female for the same reason as stated above: If I’m going to be looking at an ass for 500+ hours, it better be a female one.
