No worries, I figured it was a misunderstanding. But I actually love the Thief still, and I think I love the Engineer (just discovered yesterday that I actually do enjoy switching between two kits now that I’ve unlocked the Tool Kit, and expect to grab the Med Kit later on.) Trust me, I’m not falling out of love with the game.

My point about empathizing with Mark’s feeling is that, at least in my case, I’ve found it’s easy to fall into a grind trap, as I think I have. That may not be Mark’s issue, though, as I’m not sure where he’s investing most of his time. Crafting kind of lured me into a repetitive loop of sorts, when I found certain areas that had high concentrations of certain ores that I needed. Going through those areas several times in a row will definitely dull the game after a few times.

I think there are ways to avoid this kind of pitfall such as grouping more and playing WvW and PvP, which I intend to explore soon, but how does a person who can’t play the game all day and night do all that stuff and level their crafting skills at a good rate at the same time? Sure, there are other high ore yield areas as well, but I suspect I’ve been to most of them.

I’m curious what perspective you’re viewing this from, Mark, so I hope you don’t mind me asking why you wish you were 80 now? The reason I ask (and it’s been pointed out already, so apologies for repeating) is that you’ll be doing the same things at 80 you’re doing at 31 - dynamic events, WvW, harvesting, crafting, etc. So is it a particular build you need to be 80 for, wanting to have explored all the zones, or something else?

Personal opinion, but the game works best when you’re trying not to level - you don’t need to. Do whatever sounds fun, levels will roll in, and suddenly you’re 80 before you know it. I gained about 25-30 levels in WvW without consciously trying to do so (which is kinda cool because now with alts there’s tons and tons of zones I’ve never even been to before and get to see for the first time). If nothing in the game is fun/engaging for you now, it’s unfortunately not going to change at 80. It’s not the traditional model of “The real game starts at end game”. About the only thing different is that Orr is a harder zone than lower level zones and can get seriously nasty if you’re playing on lower population servers and the dynamic events are going against you… one of the reasons I love playing on low pop servers (that and no WvW queues, woo!). :)

The XP thing is that it’s still valuable to earn XP AT 80, because each “level” past that nets you a skill point and skill points are a currency at the level 80 shop.

So effectively on top of farming gold faster than intended they were farming skill points faster than intended too. The idea that you’d still need XP even at max level I know is foreign, so that’s probably why most people assume it’s only about power-leveling.

Any details on this? Is there some resetting mechanism (hourly/daily) or is it over the life of the character?

Something like do a certain number of the same events in a short time frame and you will end up getting virtually no returns until you take a rest and do something else. Form what I can gather from the forums its not meant to persist across zones but there are reports of people having it happen from doing events across zones

I don’t think I’ve ever been this angry about a game. It’s been weeks and I still haven’t played a single second of this game because of their stupid account stuff. No responses via e-mail, I can’t even create an account to post on their forum.
The wonderful irony of course, is if I hadn’t owned GW1, I’d be playing the game just fine right now.

Sorry you’re having such a difficult time. Have you tried creating a support account? You can go here: http://en.support.guildwars2.com/app/utils/create_account/session/L3RpbWUvMTM0ODA4ODc2OC9zaWQvckQxTlFGNmw%3D
This should help you create an account specifically for support.

On Sea of Sorrows, there is a permanent zerg happening in a level 75 area which runs from event to event. I join it every now and then and I didn’t really notice diminishing returns last night. I thought this mainly applied to speed runs through dungeons.

I can understand why this is done but I get annoyed with the fact that the early adapters/exploiters pile on to this sort of behavior and the devs give them enough time to do their levelling before nerfing it for everyone else. So now we have the power-players fully cultural armed and levelled in crafting in a tenth of the time that less-focused individuals will have to do it.

Poor Mark, if every MMO simply reminds you that you are clicking on boxes to get stuff I fear that the genre is dead for you. I’m very aversive to grinding myself but the dynamism of GW2 has allowed me to maintain the illusion that while I’m doing similar things in the game I’m not trapped in a static universe where each day I do exactly the same thing over and over. Of course, for my sanity’s sake I also have no interest in running through the dungeons.

I ran the 50 dragon a few times during the day and noticed diminishing returns. I have no problem with it since I don’t believe I should get the same award for farming the same content continuously.

Hi Peter

Our guild (One Blood) is going to be setting up some 5-man runs to do story modes and eventually open up explorable modes for each of the dungeons. We run a TS server and won’t be expecting people to be perfect. It’s a learning experience for all of us. If you are interested let me know (Anorax.6039). We are also on the Sea Of Sorrows server.

Hopefully we can get enough people online (before they get syphoned off to Borderlands 2) to do this. :)

Uh… Tequila, or whatever he’s named? How can that be subject to diminishing returns, I was under the impression he only spawns every 2 to 3 hours.

Yes I did that which is how I got my initial ticket in. And they say if you don’t get a response, to post on the forum - which I can’t do hehe. Oh well.

Every three hours, but it seemed like the loot was worse the 2nd and 3rd time I did it on one day. No yellows, less cash.

I think Eric needs to work some of his super power dev magic to assist you. ;)

I just did some of the big Orr temple events for the first time and all I got from 2 of them was a few blues, so maybe it was just bad RNG for you as well.

The moderators at the ArenaNet forums are absolutely nuts. There was a thread that argued the need for more CC in GW2 PVP, something I disagree with pretty strongly. Another poster responded with something along the lines of “I’m glad there’s not more CC, too much CC in PVP has ruined too many MMOs” - couldn’t agree more! As such, I quoted the guy and said “I’d like to buy you a beer, sir!”, which I thought was a pretty harmless and quick way of stating my agreement while on mobile.

Apparently ArenaNet disagrees pretty strongly, as I get a PM saying that the post is deleted and my account has been infracted for the post. Not a big deal, I’ll just avoid their forums, but an infraction for that? Sheesh.

That has to be some form of automated forum scanning bot that is just doing a dictionary search… no way anyone human could have flagged that.

Holy top predators in enclosed ecosystems, Batman!

I seriously wish they’d improve the score handling on SPVP and TPVP … They really need to add some way to bring up the score tab. As I understand it, the only time you get to see your personal stats is at the final second of the game.

It generally appears while you are in the middle of fighting and takes up the entire screen, so your choices are banish the dialog with escape and finish the fight, or actually read the scores.

You really should be able to review your entire pvp history, but at least they should let you bring the score back up somehow. It’s nice to see if you or some teammate of yours really did as well or as poorly as you thought…

It would also be nice to see the roster partway through the match, to see if you’re getting steamrolled because they have twice as many guys or if they’re just that much better.
