Yeah, I played for a few hours last night and it was definitely back and forth. At one point I thought they were going to take one of our orb keeps and had a bridge blocked to prevent us from reinforcing, but we rallied and went around and flanked them.
I still got killed a couple times by an invisible swarm of players. I’m not sure that’ll ever get fixed at this point.

I too would be up for that, or down with it or standing squarely in the middle quietly admiring it.

Yeah that culling is really annoying :(. It is pretty bad for me since I don’t have the best CPU in the world…
I am curious as to why you would pick a Mesmer to hold a point rather then a guardian? I have troubles against them, but I would think a gaurdian would be able to keep a point under control longer because of all thosemknockbacks and stuff.
I think one power based build is nessicary (ugh spelling) because of the trebuchets in Khylo. But since you have 4 minutes in between battles, that shouldn’t be too hard…
Mesmers are, to my understanding from the forums, sort of 1v1 specialists. On top of that, we have a really, really deep bag of tricks for avoiding damage and prolonging fights.

Unfortunately I play on a UK server. I played a bit more today, but I really can’t get into it. Not to mention the repair cost for armor which is colossal. I’ll try again in a few days with my guild.
In other news. I’ve found this Node farming to be pretty profitable combined with daily achievements.
This is my thinking here. They’re tough 1v1, and prolong fights even so. Your mesmer says he’s getting hit by 2 or 3 roamers, you can get your own roamers in to help.

Ah, I see. I definantly can attest to that.
As far as I can see, Thieves and Mesmers tend to run somewhat rampant in sPvP. I think that might be because of how stealth works, though.

Tips on WvW with a Thief or Engineer? Put my toes into the water today and repeatedly got my ass handed to me by mobs of enemies. Wish there were more waypoints. Trekking back to the action after each death got kinda frustrating.
I suspect the main issue is I wasn’t staying close enough to the folks on my own side, but also because I wasn’t using class strengths correctly.

I played my first time in WvW today as well. I actually enjoyed it despite kind of being dragged into by my group in an effort to get our Monthly. I would say that is not class specific. Stragglers die, and it doesn’t matter what class you are. If you are solo or lagging behind the mob, it’s a risk. I have to say the thieves are pretty good at getting away now and then though, with their stealth. They also have a habit of sneaking up on you, just ahead of the pack. My experience anyway.
Our thief died a lot because he was ahead of the pack, and met the action head on and couldn’t withdraw when the rest of us had to back down. The engineer did well, and she stayed mostly in the back, used her mortars a lot i think. Me, well I am squishy. If i am targeted, I go down pretty fast regardless of where I am, but i can take down a few at a time too.
One thing I have found in WvW is not to extend too far beyond your group. Give your own guys a chance to rez you without putting their own lives in danger. Understandably if you are facing a zerg onslaught then it becomes pretty much a rout and every man for himself.

Does anybody else find it impossible to log into their forums?
I’ve tried three different browsers (IE, Firefox, Safari) on two computers and an Ipad, and I’ve tried every day for 10+ days. I’ve deleted all cookies. I’ve ensured only one tab was open. Accepting the Terms and Conditions results in:
Error 401: Unauthorized
ActionController::InvalidAuthenticityToken
It’s frustrating.
EDIT: Solved. In case anyone else is having this problem, try logging in to your account (the main account, not the forums). Log out of your account. Then, log into the forums.

Yeah, stick with the group – I could easily improve on that. Funny thing about the rez suggestion - every time I hung around, some dude or another would start shouting, “JESUS EVERYONE WAITING FOR A REZ, JUST GO BACK TO THE WAYPOINT!!1!”. :/

Our server must be a little more kind than that. Although we did have some guy try and command the troops not especially effectively. I thought I would hate WvW because I have always hated PvP… but this was different. I enjoyed it even if it is kind of simplified. I mean you mow down a loan enemy, and then run into a group yourself and get mowed down.
The best moments though, so far is holding fort with everyone around you dropping like flies, outnumbered easily 1 to 5 and all of a sudden, the reinforcements arrive. That’s pretty awesome.
Any PvP group worth its salt will rez teammates. Better than having them out of the fight on the long run back to the front lines. :)
Much like a hard candy Christmas
I do like the Mesmer, though mine’s only 30. I find that while I can easily get overwhelmed, especially by higher-level humanoids in groups, often I can take multiple even-level non-humanoids, or even a veteran on or about my level by using all my tricks. Some humanoids like centaurs are easier than pirates, too.
What do other Mesmers use for weapons? I was using Staff/Greatsword, but now and using Greatsword/Sword & Pistol for PvE.

Completed Sorrow’s Embrace this weekend; we liked this dungeon much better than Twilight Arbor. Keep watching the final boss after you defeat him, he had us all cracking up.

I’m finding Thieves fun, but insanely squishy. Maybe it’s coming from my practically unkillable Warrior, but man do I have issues soloing with the Thief at level 15. There is a Engineer boss in the Asura story that I just can’t kill, even with kiting and poofing (um, stealthing).
