Best way to get rares I’ve found is by looting the giant chests that appear after completing level 80 events. Orr has been bugged to hell, so Snowden Drifts is your best bet–the event with the Ice Dragon is impressive, and I scored 2 rares last night. In the nearby lake is an event to help the Quaggans, and a Veteran fish spawns that has a chance to drop rares as well. You’ll generate a good amount of karma doing these as well.

Fuck, it better not. I’m 13 salvages away from completing it.
Do you mean Frostgorge and not Snowden?

I had the exact thing happen today to me with this particular personal story. After entering the instance, instead of an opening dialogue with the NPCs, I found myself in combat with the grubs. After killing one, I was kicked from the instance. I was able to re-enter the instance and finish the story, but was spammed with disabled content errors.

That completely sucks, man. I can’t believe they still haven’t straightened that out - what a mess!

How funny. My favorite fix is the one to the portal sounds in Godslost Swamp. First few times I went in there (or anywhere ever near, for that matter), I was trying to find where Oceanic flight 815 was coming down at.

I just reported them via the GW2 Support webform for violating the Rules of Conduct, claiming they admitted in chat that their guild name is intentionally racist.[/QUOTE]
Support wrote me back today:
Hello,
Thank you for reporting a potential rules violation.
We will use the information you have provided to investigate whether a violation of the rules has occurred. Please let us know if you have any additional problems or questions.
Regards,
Nick

There’s a time limit on how quickly you can do it in combat.

I believe there’s an interface option that displays a numerical cooldown timer on the buttons to make this more clear.

I just stumbled upon the ice dragon event. No rares however, unless you count 2 unappealing yellow item upgrades.
I still can’t quite believe how good this game is.
I’d almost lost hope for the genre after SWTOR. TSW somewhat raised my hopes for a bit, but it was just too dang short.
But GW2 is the first MMO that’s actually made me feel the joy of my first MMO again - something I never thought possible. I keep coming up for air and realizing it’s … well, quarter to three :)
I think that for me it’s the virtual world feel, it’s just spot on. The game world is just so charming.
I’m aware that some are complaining about lack of PvE endgame, but as I intend the PvP to be my endgame, I’m not so worried about that, and I’m fairly confident that more PvE content will be added even before a paid expansion.
The Snow Dragon event is pretty awesome to stumble upon. I mean, AA cannons versus a huge snow dragon.
I hear you gurugeorge, there is so much to explore and see in this game. I love seeing sites like the Himalayan polar bear iceberg flagship (and the fact that describing such sites feels I’m randomly pulling words out of a dictionary).

Yeah,I noticed this tonight too during WvWvW. I have it bound to B.

I’ve barely touched PvP even though I know I’ll enjoy it because the rest of the game is taking my natural tendency towards exploration and putting it into overdrive.
I was shocked to realize that I’ve honestly seen less than a quarter of the world. The design of each area and thought put into the things there (placement, layout, and so forth) are so consistently terrific that it makes most fantasy rpg’s look lazy by comparison.
I had very few expectations going in, but they’ve not only gotten me to play an mmo again, but I’m enjoying the hell out of it and feel like I’ve already gotten way more than my money’s worth.
I expect to happily putz along exploring for a very long time.

Be aware that there is a cooldown on weapon swap, which may cause it not to work. It shows on the weapon swap button to the left of your ability list.
So I’ve spent a couple of hours last night and another hour this morning playing this. As a veteran of Guild Wars I thought I would be able to just jump in and enjoy, but damn, this game is overwhelming.
For starters, there is no manual in my retail box copy. What a surprise. I watched the little videos at the website about races, classes and combat, and they were essentially useless. Knowing that Guild Wars combat is based on the skills and spells you’ve learned, and that knowing how to combine them for best effect is critical, at no point during the tutorial or thereafter does the game actually tell you this or guide you through the process. I’m playing a Guardian, and I have several skills and abilities unlocked, but how they interact with one another or the effect they have on players around me is still pretty much a mystery.
I’m not even going to get started on the auction house and vendors. Suffice to say I opened the Black Lion Trading Company thing and was greeted with a picture of avatars wearing sunglasses and shit, and screen upon screen of items, numbers and buttons, with nary a tutorial in sight.
I opened the map by accident, and discovered the cool little symbols that you see at the bottom of the loading screen correspond to the symbols on the map which represent the different accomplishments you can gain within a geographical area. That is cool, and the OCD in me wants to accomplish everything (which having looked at the acheivements panel in my hero page looks like it will take just short of forever).
I have not even begun to contemplate crafting, or upgrading my stuff. Hell, I only figured out things dropped loot about an hour in when one of the corpses lit up and gave me a raven egg or something.
Is there a website or youtube video stream or something out there that is a beginner’s guide to Guild Wars 2? I really want to like this game, but I’d like to know what I’m doing so I don’t miss important things as I move along.

I think that’s just normal learning curve thing. Exploring and discovering the game is just as fun as exploring and discovering the world.
I’m just starting to feel like I’m getting things going. I have a 40 guardian, a 27 Ranger and 3 lvl 10 or below characters. Take your time and just enjoy the journey :)
I may have answered my own question, as I found this series of tutorial vids on YouTube that so far have been fairly informative. The guy who narrates them (Syf) is actually pretty entertaining with his comments and voices, and he generally hits all the important bits when talking about an aspect of the UI, character progression or gameplay.
EDIT : OK, after 30 minutes of watching those videos I am WAY better off now. I understand the concepts of what is going on with the hearts, the skill challenges, the economy, skill unlocks and traits, and a host of other things. NCSoft should consider hiring this SyF guy to make actual tutorials they can put online.
You don’t out level content with autoscaling. So I’m not sure how you’d miss anything. Overland PvE content is forgiving enough you can learn/fiddle with mechanics in a low penalty environment. Respeccing is cheap.
Hearts can be ignored. Or done compulsively if you want to go karma gear. Zone progression is also fairly flexible. By the time you get to where you have fewer zone options you should be pretty far along and have grasped things by doing.
Play more to see if you like it. Worry less. But if you miss the Skinner Box treadmill you may burn out faster.
