Remember, that this means the hackers have your email and password for the game. Change your password immediatly, and make sure its not the same as the one you use for your email services.

Thanks for the reminder, but that was the first thing I did, and I think they say as much in the email (just checked, they do).
Does Blizzard notify you of failed login attempts, or is there any data out there that shows if a physical authenticator has any effect on hacking attempts? It’d be interesting data to see.
My issue is that the PvE starts to feel like a grind after you get to the 20’s or early 30’s. There isn’t much new in any individual event (really just another name for a quest). I’m told to kill some things. I’m told to go and click on some things and bring them back and deposit them with a dude. I feel like I’m doing the stuff I’ve done in previous fantasy MMOs.
It’s usually “Hello Hero!”.
In the mail I get anyways. :)

I don’t know what to say, Mark. As others have said, it sounds like you’re not a big fan of (or got tired of) some core parts of the game, which is cool. Leveling up to 80 never felt like a moment of grind to me, I just roamed around and did a bit of everything (hearts, map completions/exploration, crafting, WvW) and without trying I was suddenly L80. This is because I like the core game, though, I was doing the things I was doing because that’s what was entertaining and sounded fun at the moment, not because I was looking for a way to get levels. The levels were just a happy byproduct which allowed me to tool around with some new trait builds.
The legendaries on the other hand are grinds, intentionally so. They’re there for people who like that sort of thing (content to endlessly farm in order to get shinies). That’s not my cup of tea, I’m personally satisfied with my stat equivalent and non-particle-effecty gear, which is why I said the grind isn’t necessary.

My problem really is alt-itis. All the classes are really fun to play, and I tend to pick up whichever one I’m in the mood for.
I’m glad there’s no monthly fee, I’m going to take awhile to play this.
Or not so happy sometimes.
For the first time in MMOs, I wanted to slow down my leveling in GW2. I haven’t seen so many zones on my way to 80 because I outleveled them. Of course, nothing prevents me from going there now but still I wished I didn’t get to 80 that fast.
And I constantly outleveled the gear I could craft.
What’s a main?
At least in other games, I’ve honestly just not liked some classes. But here, every class is sooooo shiney and distracting when I play it! Heh, at least I still have some discretion and ended up not liking every race.

For some reason they made some crafts much harder than others. For example it’s easy to stay ahead of your level with jewelry; everything you need comes from mining ore. But with armor crafts, you need fairly rare drops to level in addition to the leather and cloth pieces which themselves aren’t that common.
Of course you can just buy everything you need, but again that’s quite expensive for the armor special drops – even mid-level claws and scales and so on are around 1 silver each.
I am still not convinced there is any need to craft in GW2. AFAIK none of the crafted items are soulbound and the TP prices for crafted items are MUCH cheaper than the mats it takes to produce the item.
You are basically losing money and gaining some levels out of it, so it’s kinda like you pay silver to get levels. Considering that levels are so easy to come by in this game, much easier than silver, I really don’t see the point.
The same situation at level 80, but you get only skill points out of it, not levels. So you pay silver to get skill points. It’s much cheaper to buy all exotics on TP than to level up armorsmith from 300 to 400 and craft your own exotics.
Sure, I was able to make some silver on the items I crafted (until eventually those markets got oversaturated like all others) but IMO it’s cheaper to buy stuff on TP.
MAYBE crafting will pay for itself in the long term, not sure.

You’re probably right. Crafting was actually useful before the TP was fixed, but the TP almost literally makes it a process of converting silver into XP.
The only soulbound stuff I know of are the crafting components for legendaries, but I assume by the time you’re in a place to grind a legendary it’d be trivial to grind a 400 skill at the appropriate craft.
What they’d really need to do would be to make it so that you can craft slightly better versions of items once they’re gray skillwise. There’s too much value being burned in the transmutation of money to XP to make crafting for any other reason efficient.

Good luck getting enough gold ore unless you go out of your way to farm it.

Spot on. You’re better off selling the raw materials, then buying what you want from the TP.

I have yet to play an MMO where that isn’t the case (save potentially a few limited, very high end items where just getting the recipe is difficult, and even that only lasts until enough catasses grind for the recipe and start charging 1 silver more than the value of the components for the item).

I had no problem at all. There’s a zone somewhere with a whole bunch of them. Forget which one offhand, they’re all underwater as I recall.

Oh yeah, I agree the amount of XP you get from crafting is ridiculous. Not that I am usually a hard-ass about grinding, but it does seem kind of silly you can get a level and a half just from cranking a bunch of ore through the smelter.

Bloodtide Coast, directly south of Lion’s Arch, has a bunch off to the W/NW near the Inquest stuff underwater. Probably other places in the zone too, but I haven’t finished exploring it yet.

Well, with exotic jewery, it is about 30 to 50 silver cheaper to buy the materials and craft the stuff yourself, rather then buy the item off the trading post. Plus, I can just go out and grab the mats myself (only major holding factor is the damn ectoplasam)
I think my problem is that I’m worn out with fantasy MMOs. The fictional setting just doesn’t grab me at this point because 90% (probably higher) of the MMOs have been fantasy MMOs.
And if the fictional setting doesn’t grab me, something else has to. For me that is usually seeing my characters continue to get more powerful, with an eye towards the endgame. There’s also a discovery process that is interesting for me as I learn to play a different character type.
It appears to me that GW2’s character progression begins to flatten at about level 20 or so and further leveling just gives me incremental boosts.
So I find myself in a game where leveling doesn’t reward me much and the game world feels a lot like the game worlds in previous MMOs. The mechanics Anet came up with are really great and will probably be copied by subsequent MMOs – Anet really deserves recognition for them. But I’m still doing a lot of running around to collect kills or items and I’ve been doing that since WoW launched.

Did you ever try TSW? No elves, and the endgame is based on constantly learning to play different character types (though it’s the same character, just with different skillsets and gear). I think everyone expects it to go FTP soon, in any case.
