Yeah, I have my doubts about the patch legitimately being over 7000 files…

They may be taking the opportunity to reorganize and compact the data files.

Wow. Zoning into Lions Arch is taking minutes. Must be some kind of texture overload, or maybe they didn’t exactly optimize the data files…

Oh, I guess it just is this giant.
I zoned there right away. The skeletons and the candy corn guys are players. Really hard to figure out what the hell’s going on.

Edit: Oh, it’s a food fight … like Rock ‘n’ Roll High School. Yeah. Hmm.

Do they really have giant candy corn people walking around?
The first Guild Wars did that too.

So when do these food fight, costume brawls events actually end?
Searching for the Mad King in Lion’s Arch has been frustrating for me so far. They did a piss poor job of explaining what you’re actually suppose to do with the “ghost finding meter” and what to look for (as evidenced by the constant questions about it in chat).
And I’ve blown through a ton of candy corns in ‘strong reading’ areas with nothing ever showing up. The few suspicious sites I clicked only gave me some candy bags (thankfully with more candy corn) and a portal that warped me away to a non ‘strong reading’ location. Okay…
And I don’t really get what I’m trying to do by carving pumpkins (achievement?) or if there’s suppose to be more variation to it in how you carve it.
Also, the Halloween costumes are insanely expensive, especially with how gem prices are right now.
Suffice it to say, I’m a little disappointed.
There’s more to the event than what’s going on now, and it will ramp up over time.
As for the scavenger hunt (with the item you use that consumes candy corn): you’re supposed to first use it by the Magister Teppi or whatever his name is - in the email he tells you to try it out and see if you can find the ghost next to him. So you use the item and pick 3 I think (which is the “Ethereal” detector) and the ghost should show up. Talk to her [if other people have been using their detectors, the ghost may already be visibile, and if so, don’t use your corn, just talk to her directly]. After you hear her whole story you will get a piece of paper with 2 more clues on it. From there you follow the clues to likely locations and use your detector to find more ghosts, hear their stories, and when you have 6, you turn them in to the Magister for a reward of some sort.
You can also find “suspicious sites” that will yield trick or treat bags when you interact with them. These bags have potions, food, seasonal crafting items, and more candy corn. And as shown above, you can mine candy corn from the world.
As for the pumpkin carving, it’s a scavenger hunt of sorts - there is an achievement and maybe a title for getting a bunch of them (25? I forget). If you hold down your ctrl key when running around Lion’s Arch you will see them when you get close. I found maybe 5 or 6 in LA, and one out in the world. You can only carve them once, and it’s just an interaction, you don’t have any choice in the design.
There is actually more content, and the Mad King himself, but I assume it’s being staged, so the big stuff won’t happen for a week or so - the GW2 website had the timeline on the event page.
People were saying Reddit had a list of locations and (I am sure) the scavenger hunt areas too. I got 2 of them this morning and have clues to 3 others. That leaves just one.
That was very helpful, thanks Charlatan!

If you just want to get it done and you’re not interested in figuring it out yourself, here is a guide on the event with pictures http://dulfy.net/2012/10/23/shadow-of-the-mad-king-scavenger-hunt-guide/
My server’s wvw match this week has been intense. I’m on SBI. http://mos.millenium.org/matchups#NA It’s currently 118k - 109k - 99k. JQ has just pulled ahead at the end, it’s been neck and neck the whole time.
Quaggan’s a pirate! Yarrrrr!
Looks similar to what they would do in GW1, with consumables that change character appearance into holiday themed skins and cause non-harmful effects on yourself and other players. It’s fun stuff, but it does tend to get old fast. I would hazard a guess that there are also holiday-themed minis to be found or won, as that was often the case in GW1. Some of the holiday minis became quite valuable in the game economy over time.
so this quest is to give yourself Diabetes ?
There’s also “candy corn custard.” Even the thought of it makes me want to retch.
I was thinking of purchasing it after liking the first Guild Wars… until I read about it having one of those cash shops & microtransaction stuff. How bad is that in this game, anything essential or just like costumes?
