Considering distributed computing infrastructure Anet is using, such crash and meltdown is fairly unprecedented.

I think I got a green and some onions out of the chest at level 52. Fun stuff. I don’t think anyone in my group got anything better than a green.

I liked the little event that happened at 12 pacific, but I wish it had been done just in the normal game camera (character perspective) than cutting to a cinematic in-game camera. I know cinematic gives them more control, but I think it would have been cooler if it all happened from our PoV.

All in all, this is probably the most fun Act for me so far.

Oh, the Clock Tower jumping puzzle is just sadistic. Without fail I get hung up on some bit of the geometry after the first platform. I did probably 10 runs and got no further than about 10 seconds after that platform. I may go back and try it again later, but I was definitely not making any progress my first night. I did read that on that first platform, you can start jumping as soon as the explosion animation starts that forms the second set of steps. You don’t have to wait until it actually moves in place.

Received an email my account had been logged in from Beijing, China. Have no idea how they got my password/login since I run a tight ship. Must have been the 1-2 places I reused the same password. :( Man, I hate the third world.

Same here–but I only opened two.

I got the Exotic Mad King’s Overcoat just a minute ago from the chest.

Could have been a million things, ranging from a keylogger on your PC to a q/a or ops guy at arenanet selling the password file… But yeah, odds are it’s the reuse of the same login/password combination on some other site with bad security.

The clock tower is the most fun I’ve had in this game, by a huge margin. I can complete it more than half the time now, after some practice. I love jumping in mmos.

Also fun is the Lunatic Inquisition game. The one where everybody starts as a villager except one person who is a ghost. Villagers try to survive while ghosts try to convert villagers into ghosts (by killing them). I played it for ~4 hours. I had some great hiding spots, but they were patched out this morning. Now it’s extremely hard to survive the whole round as a villager.

Going back for 100% exploration, its clear that a good portion of the DEs are headed the same way as WAR’s public quests. There just aren’t enough folks in the leveling zones, especially at off peak, to justify so many “group” events.

Yeah, but there’s really no harm in them being there for when there are multiple people in the area. Progression isn’t being stymied by those group events. The problem with the WAR’s PQs was that almost all of them needed more than just one person. Here it’s just a handful of events that are designated for groups and most of those are one-offs and not tied into chains.

Not enough folks for what?

I am leveling up an alt and I am doing it through the least populated (according to devs) zones in the game - Charr’s. (Totally a shame BTW, these zones are great). I am at lvl 56 or so and skipped only maybe a couple of events due to lack of people so far. Most of the time there are people to help and when I am alone, most events scale down to a very manageable difficulty.

It could depend on the server though. I am on EBay.

I must say that the “second run” is much more interesting than the first one. Events don’t get zerged as they used to, completing them is reasonably challenging, I see a few failed events here and there that result in alternative outcomes. I even start noticing and remembering random people I come across. Much more fun.

If only there were no bots, for some reason they annoy me so much, more than anything else in the game. Freaking hate them.

And I really like the Halloween events so far. The book hunt was fun, the Labyrinth was fun, the Lunatic survival game was really fun, the Mad King instance was nice and short and very cool when we did it for the first time, when it just appeared.

I did Mad King like 5 times and all I’ve got was some greens (good greens though, about 15 levels higher than I am :)). Three people in my groups got exotics though, one of them (The Crossing, cool looking staff) sold for 26g. Sigh.

And I will never be able to complete the Clocktower, so I stopped trying. :)

[edit] I am so surprised how our server is doing in WvW this week. I expected to be rolled like all other times when we got into a higher matchup before but it’s going great for us so far. I was only able to participate on Friday and it was a lot of fun in one of the enemies’ Borderlands. A lot of small scale fights, my favorite.

Yesterday I had a couple guys over for board games and I was finishing up in the Mad King’s Labyrinth when they arrived so they watched me for a few minutes before we got started on other things. One is a die-hard WoW player and the other avoids MMOs, and neither had looked at GW2 much aside from me recommending it to them.

The questions were telling though. They wanted to know if I was in a group with all these other people fighting the candy corn elementals. “No, the game acknowledges that everybody in the zone is basically working together towards a common goal, so it’s like a global group by default.” Well how does the loot get distributed then. “Everyone gets their own loot from everything they helped kill.” But how does the game credit the kill to people then. “If you fought the mob you get credit.” Well why isn’t everybody just tagging all the mobs and running trains back to force other people to kill stuff for them, “Because why the hell would they do that if the game rules aren’t so fucked up that that sounds like a good idea?”

I liked Reaper’s Rumble too when I played a couple games of it.

But I mainly quoted this to say… someone got The Crossing and it only sold for 26g? That seems crazy. They’re listed on the TP for around 100g.

I did get an exotic out of the chest, but it was a Hammer of fire or some such. Salvaged it for a couple of ectos and sold the sigil for a gold, so I was happy.

Anyone else home from work due to a hurricane and feel like running the level 80 dungeon?

For those that have run the final act of the Halloween event. Is there any chance of me being able to hang around long enough in the final act if my character is only level 30? It was hard enough getting the final piece of the book in that last dungeon in the second act, so I imagine the next act is simply not going to happen for me this time. Maybe next year…

It used to cost that much but not anymore. It sells for 18g now. Incidently, it started to drop like crazy right after the Mad King event started, the guy did good when he got 26g when he could. OTOH, I guess it’s going to go up in price once this event is closed.

[edit] God, I hate idiots that drop price of everything they are trying to sell. I was selling one item from crafting for about 40s for like a week. Nice steady income, sold one or two a day, had like 12s of profit per item. What do you know, some moron comes and starts selling them for 30s. The price literally steps down from 40s to 30s, why the hell would anyone do that? It’s not a mass market item, you can’t sell 100 of them no matter the price, it’s a piece of gear. He will still sell a couple of items a day, only with almost no profit now. Idiots.

If you are talking about the Mad King event (the LA instance), don’t worry. The event upscales you to lvl 80 and you won’t have any problem at all. One time we had a lvl 2 guy from our guild here and we did fine. Took us a bit longer but not a big deal.

You could always undersell him until he cuts his price to 1c over vendor, then be content in the fact that he loses money every sale.

Yeah, the only real risk in that dungeon is falling. I’m not even sure the mad king CAN kill someone in decently tanky gear, so a party should have no trouble. I can see speed runs grumbling about only wanting 80s, but just running it for fun there should be no issue.

After weeks of complaints, Anet announces that orbs will be removed from WvW. A good move and one part of what will hopefully be a revamp of the WvW component of the game:

Interview with Pokket and Colin Johanson here.

Mr Johnason stresses that their biggest emphasis is on more ongoing content for the live game, similar in scope to the recent Halloween event - big, regular dynamic one-off content that changes the world a bit and also leaves new things behind. Particular emphasis on stuff to do for players at cap.

The next big event like this will hopefully be on the weekend of 16 November. One of the main new things then will be the introduction of a new dungeon type that gets harder and harder as you go deeper into the dungeon, with substantial rewards for those who beat it. sPvP is also getting new additions (a new map type) and tweaks to the reward structure. Regular dungeon rewards are also getting tweaked.

It looks like there’s not going to be much movement on some of the QOL things that people are asking for (e.g. DF tool), but while the team isn’t directly working on those things now, there are some things in the pipeline, and most of those sorts of things are being discussed for the game going forward. The main emphasis at the moment though is as above; on the world being dynamic, and fresh content being continuously added.

Hehe, I have a problem with the ongoing new content. I still have too much stuff to do in the game and nearly not enough time to do that. :) I can’t even freaking finish personal story on my main or crafting on my alt because I am always distracted to do something else.
