Thanks for the info. Is the QT3 guild in Ehmry Bay active? Hate to go there all excited to hang out with you guys, and then find out I’ll be playing mostly by myself. lol

Nope, but if they’re implemented like the ones in GW2, then I’d say that was pretty amazing too.
Maybe I’m easily impressed. I just think that the fact that devs thought to include a separate solo questline, presented as if you fired up a singleplayer RPG (albeit a bit dated in terms of animation and VO) in a modern MMO is really kind of charming. They didn’t have to do that. I don’t know of anyone that made a purchasing decision based on the personal story. I’m pretty sure most people play MMOs for the MMO stuff. Yet, there it is.
I think it’s cool that anyone on the dev team thought this was good thing to include in their game.

The answer is kind of. Most recently, I’ve noticed most of the people who are in the guild and are active are “representing” other guilds now, leading to things like maybe 15-20 people online in NA evening hours but only 4 or 5 of them actually “representing” and thus able to respond in chat (due to ANet’s very strange decision to only allow you to see guild chat of the guild you are currently representing).
Expect to spend most of your time leveling solo. Though this was true at launch as well, QTT never really consistently organized expeditions. Although right now a few of us do run dungeons several times a week.
Looking at the logs, seems around ~20 representing people a day show up.

Guild Wars 2 is an exemplary case study of the many-games-in-one model. It was clearly their plan to offer discrete experiences to satisfy a large range of player predilections. Not all parts are going to appeal to everyone. In fact, the big danger is that no parts will be robust enough to satisfy anyone. Sometimes I feel like that’s the case; while at other times, I really enjoy the open world experience in PvE. However, it is clear to me that the aspect of the game that received the least amount of true love was this solo RPG storyline part. I try occasionally to move my characters stories forward but always find my experience lacking polish and fun. I feel like GW2 would be a stronger game for me if they had spent more time making WvWvW and open world PvE consistently rewarding and had never done the storyline stuff. That’s just my opinion, of course – there is no arguing with that, merely offering one’s own opinion in juxtaposition. If someone else loves the storyline stuff itself or even just the fact that it’s in there, who am I to argue with it? Why would I want to? Enjoyment is fleeting enough (and precious enough) in life without trying to argue people out of not enjoying something.
As far as the storyline architecture goes, I also happen to feel that the branching elements of it are, while not entirely meaningless, still pretty light on differentiation. I would rather have had a higher quality, more linear experience.

Thanks guys. Didn’t know asking about the story was going to create a war. Will join you guys on the preferred QT3 server.

Some of the Sylvari stories start out strong, especially the one about the stranger with no memory. Unfortunately, the particular plot lines gets dropped once everything converges around 40 and you’re playing Treesus’ personal story rather than your own, aside from token “Hey, I know that NPC who shows up for 10 seconds in this mission!” moments.
The Sylvari stories at least build Treesus up a little before putting him center stage, so it’s less jarring. It doesn’t really make it more enjoyable, but at least it makes it less seemingly random.
On another tangent, how did you guys ever achieve the monthly achievement involving salvaging 500 items? I only managed to do so by making an extra 130 bronze tridents and salvaging them. The problem with this part of the achievement is that it slows down how much money you make from vending items. It would be nice if they changed the monthly achievements system to be like how the dailies are now.

I barely touch the game now, but the last time I had to complete that I got most of the way just by salvaging everything white, and blue things that salvaged around break even. I’m not sure if it’s still true, but when I was playing if you came up short it was easy enough to buy items around the break even salvage price on the auction hall. The market is reasonably rational in GW2 for high supply items.

I ended up buying the last 150 items or so, and I play nearly every day. 500 items is a LOT to salvage!

I must’ve had a lot more free time than I realized, because I reached the 500 salvages last night after picking the game back up about a week and a half ago. My rule is to salvage anything blue or white because in the long run I’ll either needs the mats for crafting or be able to sell them for a decent price, while end game blues don’t even crack 1 silver at a vendor.
It’s absolutely worth salvaging blues at the very least because they actually have a decent chance of giving rare mats like Orichalcum Ore, Gossamer, and those ancient logs (I’m using the commendation salvage kits).
For those that may not know it yet, they significantly increased the loot bags and badges you get in WvW as well as the quality of loot you get from world bosses (like dragons). I’m easily getting about twice as much loot now in WvW and I almost always get a rare (often times two!) from the world chests.

It looks like March will be the big WvW patch we’ve all been waiting for. They are claiming they’ve eliminated culling completely!
MMORPG: Back in January, one of the fixes for culling went into place, and it seemed to help a bit. But how will the changes coming in March eliminate this completely? There are a few skeptics in Bill’s (Murphy) guild that think it can’t be done.
Habib Loew: Hah, yeah we have seen a lot of the skepticism on the Internet. The change we made in January was really just a tweak to the system. It changed the priorities of Culling but did not eliminate it. The change in March will turn off Culling completely. You will now see every character within range of you. There will be several different options for how other players are presented to you, on the client side that you can choose from so you can control how it works for you.
That would be amazing if true. It looks you will also have some control over it based on how powerful your PC is as well.
They are also introducing a WvW progression system where killing enemies and participating in WvW events will gain you World XP, which can then be spent on WvW passive abilities that might let you carry more supply or be better at doing siege damage.
The full interview can be found here.
Sorry, the branching story thing loses all of its cool points when they wait until the very final mission to force you to do a dungeon crawl, the only non-solo event. (Don’t even start me on needing wvw zones for 100 percent map completion)
GAH, GW2 is $40 on Amazon. Do I really need another MMO in my life?
Please tell me the PVP is awesome!
The PvP is awesome. Also, Guild Wars 2 is more than “just another MMO”. :)

I don’t even like PvP and I had some fun with WvW. Also, it’s a one time financial commitment. After that you can dip in whenever you feel like it without guilt. S’what I do.
