I’ve been really enjoying the recent update. The theme is cool, the jumping puzzles are fun and not too onerous, the competitive stuff’s a laugh, and has some headroom if you want to get skillful.
Me, I just love pootling about with these things. Sometimes I notice I’ve got a 3/5 in something and that’ll motivate me to have a go, but I dont’ feel any particular urge to be a completionist, although it’s nice to know the option’s there.
Shout out to the music, the NPC convos. Generally, it’s just charming and entertaining.
Concurrently I started playing Neverwinter, but I’ve dropped it like a hot potatoe. Not that it’s a bad game, far from it (the combat’s fun and the Foundry is fantastic), but I just feel it’s all so old for me. GW2 has a great mix of the familiar MMO tropes and new ones.
I just wish it was a superhero game :( I’d far rather be immersed in a CoH2 of comparable quality, but GW2’s the best option for me atm.
Oh and the politics thing is nicely handled. You get to look in on formative scenes in the development of the election, which give you the gist, and then there’s stuff to do related to it, e.g. voting, mini-games. The idea that Living World content is going to be democratically determined to a fair extent by the wishes of the players is really quite innovative. (It looks like they’ve actually gone to the trouble of pre-preparing two scenarios, and they seem confident they will be able to implement whichever da people vote for in good order.)
I’m voting for Kiel, I missed some of the molemen stuff and I’m curious to see that story developed further. Reduced TP cost for a while can’t hurt either.

New patch was released this morning it seems. Apparently all of us are missing out on silly amounts of loot at the moment (15g/hour has been reported on the new content, probably to be nerfed).

They’ve already patched once this morning, but it is silly amounts of loot.

There are two balloon towers in every zone (but the Orr zones and Southsun zone I believe), and the first time you climb to the top, you get to loot a chest. Plus champions are very lucrative now.
By gum, the Jubilee stuff is oodles of fun, and it’s all pretty lucrative too, as Derbain said. I especially like the missions you have to do for the Balloon pilots - they’re variations on “I can’t take off until the Aetherblades nearby are despatched” or “I can’t take off until an emissary we’re expecting gets here” or “why don’t you challenge the Queen’s champion nearby to get a ticket for the balloon”- but there’s sufficient variation between these (the Aetherblade attacks vary, the escort missions vary and the champions are different, plus obviously the terrain and fauna is different as there are 2 balloons in each zone, and usually in fairly dangerous areas).
Highly recommend anyone on the fence about giving it a go to jump in!
Also, the new Arena battles (which you can get to eventually by actually getting on one of the balloons, after a cool little story bit) are awesome - the Crown Arena is divided into quarters, with different types of terrain and different super-champions in each quadrant who spawn regularly. It’s zerg-a-licious, but also quite challenging as the champions have TONS of mobs guarding them.
I got in on the ridiculous looting in the Crown Pavilion before the nerf and got gobs of gold, a bunch of tier five and tier six crafting materials, and two exotics, including one of the new ones. Also finished a nice chunk of the living world achievements, which means I should easily pass 2000 achievement points before the end of the month, if not the end of the week.
So much good stuff here, and I haven’t even started the balloon towers or the Queen’s Gauntlet yet.
I’m only level 65 but I keep getting all these tickets…what are those for?
If you mean the Queen’s Gauntlet Entrance Tickets, they’re for entering the Queen’s Gauntlet. It’s a solo challenge thing that’s part of the new living world content.
It seems Sanctum Sprint got new achievements! 100 points total for collecting crystals, using skills, and finishing races in third place or better, and the repeating achievement for completing fifteen races is now worth five points per loop in addition to awarding a loot bag.

I made a google doc for balloon tracking feel free to save a copy
Finally an LFG tool eh? Good.
Hope it doesn’t completely destroy the community and the economy, heard that comment being thrown about on other games.

What’s the green signify?
So it seems a co-worker that plays and Wildstar beta love has cooled my Wifes NCSoft hate and she’s now curious about GW2. Is there any sort of free trial or refer a friend trial? If it comes down to it I can pick up one account for myself (FINALLY!) and let her tool around with it to see, but it would be better if we could get a look without dropping the $40-$80.

They’ve done a few free trials, but there’s no refer-a-friend program that I know of. I’ve seen a few sales from time-to-time, but I’m not seeing anything cheaper than $40 right now at Amazon.
I did a little theorycrafting while waiting for a build to finish this morning, and discovered something curious: given my elementalist’s build and gear, ruby orbs (at 25 silver a pop) yield a little more than a 5% damage advantage over superior runes of the Eagle (at 3.5 gold a pop), which has gone and saved me 20 gold or so. If you’re gearing up like I am, you might want to play with a build calculator and gemstones if you’re despairing over the cost of the good runes like I was. :P

When is the LFG tool coming?
Payday! (no not the heist game) We might be picking up GW2, so I have a question. If we wind up on a different server from the QT3 guild, as I understand it, I’d still be able to join the guild and guest over for groups/instances/guild events just not world PvP, is that correct? I’m already trying to steer her towards the QT3 server but with a co-worker of hers playing I may not be successful.

It’s here:
http://gw2lfg.net/
Simply type ‘/join <character name>’ in the game and off ya go: cross-server, dang near any time you want it grouping. Gotta type quick though, because the groups fill up fast. For me, that site has breathed new life into GW2. Quit playin’ for months because it was a PITA to get a group for dungeons. Now I’m back n’ balls deep in dungeon runs and trying to level up an alt to 80 (to do more dungeon runs).
Correct. You can be in multiple guilds across all servers, and do all the PvE content on any server just by choosing to “guest” at character selection, but WvWvW is server vs server so off limits.

Don’t use .NET - it’s a parasite site that scrapes from http://gw2lfg.com/
Also, these are all external tools, not an official LFG tool which is supposedly coming. Sometime.
