Showing at $40.88 on Amazon for me right now. And $36.99 on GMG (without coupon, might want to check before buying if you go that route).

Hopefully those deals are still there when the trial is over. /whistles innocently

[edit]Beaten to the punch…

Could use a guild invite at some point. Don’t play as much as I’d like, but when I’m on it would be nice to play with some regulars.

Gracias

I’m around level 15 right now with my main. A norn warrior. I’m finding it a little tedious. Is it due to picking a boring race/class combo? Or are the earlier levels like that sometimes? Or am I just needing to find a group of people to play with? I’ve done probably 98% of my stuff solo, but a couple of times this weekend I got to team up with some people moving through the area on a couple quests. Those were a lot of fun, although I couldn’t really tell if I was pulling my own weight or not.

Race has very little impact in GW2. And as a class, warriors are only as boring as you want them to be. You have more weapon variety than any other class. Experiment with other weapons, they all have their uses.

With my warrior, the main frustration at lower levels was that the PVE content seemed too easy compared with my experiences with Mesmer and Engineer. If that’s the case, there’s nothing stopping you from exploring higher level content.

Finally, all classes don’t really open up until level 40 or so, when utilities are fully available and you have a few options in traits.

Do as many events with other players as you can find. That’s where the fun is.

Race does dictate the first chunk of personal story, which, if you’re not getting into it like I wasn’t for quite a while, can make a significant difference. Other than that, yeah.

Race may not have much impact on your abilities, but it can have an impact on your enjoyment. Like Malkav says the personal story can be enjoyable or not. I played the little race up to about 30 and finally stopped because I disliked the personal story. And then there’s the race where your character runs like a dog on four legs. I just didn’t want to see that all the time.

Sometimes when I was playing I thought some of the GW2 stuff was put in just to be different, not because it was better. Then again I’m fond of dwarves, elves, gnomes, orcs, and halflings.

I broke down last night, but am sad to report that the 20% off code at GMG does not work for Guild Wars 2. So back to waiting till Friday and the free trial. I watched a bit of the official live stream yesterday where the guy was explaining the new clockwork invasions. It really reminded me of the Rikti invasions in City of Heroes, which which was really cool to see. One way or the other I’ll be in this weekend, hopefully with my wife in tow. But even if it doesn’t click with her I’m sure I’ll be picking it up finally for myself.

The new content, Clockwork Chaos, is cracking good fun. They seem to be really getting into their stride with the Living World stuff.

(Something in me rankles a bit at the mention of “Clockwork” though, considering the mooted possibility that CoH might have been sacrificed by NCSoft for the sake of GW2 and Wildstar :( Clockwork were one of the villain groups in CoH. sigh )

I am 100% certain that Gw2 had nothing to do with the fate of CoH and almost as certain that Wildstar didn’t either, so you’re conscious should be clear as far as GW2 “clockworks” are concerned.

:) Well that’s good to know. I love GW2 and it looks like Wildstar is going to be a great game too. It’s good to know that I can enjoy them with a clear conscience! :)

(I just wish there was still a superhero MMO with as high quality these days double sigh)

Ok screw it, I’m in! Amazon dropped the price to $37 last night so I went ahead and picked an account for me. Tooled around as a Norn guardian for a few hours and managed to hit level 5. It felt a little overwhelming trying to figure out how everything works, but I finally just decided to run around and see whats what, had a blast. I’m really enjoying how the events pop up as you’re running around. Though there seems to be wide jumps in difficulty for events. Some I was able to easily solo while others the even level boss that popped up easily dropped four npc’s, myself and another player.

Would love an invite to the guild! shellfishguy.7618

So whats the best way to approach crafting in GW2? WoW style with each alt focusing on a couple, Everquest style where you can have your main do them all, or something else entirely? I love gathering and crafting and look forward to diving into it. I just want to glean any tips from the QT3 Guild Wars masters.

Gw2crafts.net

That’s getting a bit ahead of things there, Wolff. The site linked gives the cheapest way (via buying materials off the trading post) to max crafting level for each crafting profession.

For the direct question:
You can have as many crafts on one character as you want, but only 2 can be active at once, and it will cost gold to switch them out. So usually they get placed on different characters. Leveling each crafting skill up to maximum provides about 10 levels worth of experience (this is scaled, so no difference at level 10 or 70), so you can expect to get 20 levels from maxing your 2 crafting skills.

You are totally correct - my recommendation is to just gather and not worry about crafting till you have really settled in. It is really easy to blow a bunch of money on crafting unnecessarily with no gain.

Gotcha, thanks all. So it sounds like the low level crafting doesn’t offer much benefit other than some xp? Since I love crafting I’m sure I’ll spend time on it anyway but at least I know to not get too obsessed about it early.

This new update sucks.

Ok, let me be clear: I actually don’t know if Scarlet’s Funhouse is any good or not, because it’s gated behind 5 hours of server-wide content. The personal story questline, meant to be done solo or in a single party, is gated behind an event you need a ton of players for. In order to access it you have to complete 5 invasions, which happen every hour on the hour and take roughly 45 minutes to complete. Thanks to the culling removal in PvE (which in general is great) the second event I tried caused me to crash at Scarlet (100+ people on screen at once all throwing effects with settings maxed will do that, I suppose) and even though I managed to get back in time to see her die and get the rewards, I didn’t get achievement progress. Which adds another hour of this pointless grind.

The achievements are even worse. The zones for invasions are seemingly random, with some having only appeared once in the first two days. There are achievements for winning in 7 different zones and 13 different zones (all of them). Wouldn’t be as big of an issue if they hadn’t added a system to give people gold and other rewards for achievement milestones; as it stands I doubt I’ll have the time to get these. The new content is also fairly exclusionary – only in level 25+ zones. Not that 25 is hard to reach, but locking people out of new limited content is something that wasn’t supposed to happen and one of the advantage Guild Wars 2 had over a more traditional MMO.

I’m not overly fond of the zergtastic nature of the new update, but I’m not quite so sure about your complaint on this last part. If every single bit of new content gets designed so that it’s all inclusive, you effectively cut off the vast majority of the game world from being used, which is the opposite of what they want. Pretty much every update has parts of the update that are designed to get people out in the world and they certainly don’t want to limit themselves to the five newbie zones.

Also I would assume they don’t want newbies getting overwhelmed by massive zonewide invasions, especially given the upcoming free weekend.
