If, by that, you mean the game isn’t primarily about loot, then, agreed.

The new WvW map really is beautiful. As long as you don’t mind plummeting to your death upon occasion.

I spent a considerable amount of time attempting to punt people over the edge this evening. However, I seem to be more likely to throw myself over with the wrong skill than them.

Why won’t you guys stand still =(
Anyone been playing recently?
The destruction of Lions Arch sounds cool, but I hate the character of Scarlet with a passion and have no interest in seeing her story continue.

Scarlet doesn’t really bother me personally, but I can see how she gets under people’s skins. She’s a cartoon supervillain. Fortunately, her story arc is coming to a close and perhaps that will be the last we see of the character.
What happened?! Lion’s Arch was all intact on Monday!
Figures I spend last night playing PoE instead of GW2.
Escape from Lion’s Arch. Basically, Scarlet and her cronies attack Lion’s Arch and destroy it.
If you go there, you can help delay the invaders to evacuate the city.

OK, I may get rocks and mud thrown at me for asking this question at the end of a 150+ page thread, but I’ll ask and duck. For someone who loves single player RPGs like Skyrm purely for the free form, open world exploration aspects, and who sucks at melee combat and prefers stealthy archer kinda stuff, AND is unlikely to be able to play every night AND is unlikely to be part of some kind of, well, guild - how would GW2 likely come across? Is it any good for just a single player who wants to just explore?

Yes. That’s essentially how I play it. As a singleplayer experience. Keep in mind that is an MMO, so you will be fighting alongside other people. The good news is that Arenanet has done things in GW2 to make it so you never dread seeing another player. There’s no waiting for a quest boss spawn, or rolling for loot, or any of that stuff that makes you hate other players.
I will caution you that “stealthy archers stuff” won’t work though.

Cool. I did see that there is a thief class, so maybe I’ll try that first.

I actually decided to give this another go just recently, and so far I am enjoying myself much more than I did at launch. I still suck at twitch gameplay, and sometimes I wish things would slow down a bit, since everyone else has been playing for so long they just zerg around the map. That said the game runs incredibly smooth even when there were over 100 players on screen. Of course I couldn’t see what was happening since my screen was full of spell effects and shaking but it has been fun.
By all means…it’s a fun class. My main is a thief. There’s lots of leaping around and backstabbing.
Just be aware: you will die a LOT. Thieves are squishy. Fortunately, the death penalty in GW2 is quite low, but it can still get pretty frustrating at times.

Thief in GW2 is more swashbuckler than sneaky rogue. You won’t be stealthing everywhere.
Many people describe GW2 as the “best singleplayer MMO”, so jumping in without a guild/regular play schedule/excessive time isn’t an issue. The strangest thing is that the in-game story arcs will progress without you. If you drop out for a few months and then come back, the story will have jumped from chapter 5 to 7. And you can’t really revisit 5 or 6 in-game, you just have to pick up where things are at and backfill the story via websites. Some people are more okay with this than others, so just be warned.

There is no stealth (kind of. Thief goes invisible, but mainly just to burst damage).
Exploration is a big part of the game, but its 95% landscape exploration (meaning you will find cool vistas and locations, you won’t find interesting characters or stories).

Well, sort of. There are two simultaneous story arcs. One is a personal arc that is specifically generated for your character and will progress as fast as you want. You can complete it as you level up, after you reach the level cap, or just ignore it. There is also a “Living World” arc, which is basically temporary content (with an underlying story) that is shared by all players, and it will progress with or without you.
It’s an MMO of the modern persuasion (and nowhere near as different from the norm as people like to suggest, though it has some nice innovations and conveniences), which means that it’s singleplayer friendly and probably not as good as a singleplayer RPG if you’ve got one of those lying around. But much better with friends. That said, it’s definitely one of the MMOs that most rewards exploration. There’s all sorts of little things tucked into nooks and crannies.

How hard is this game on PC hardware? I should have no problem (year old Alienware laptop with very good CPU and GPU) but I was thinking it might be fun for my brother in TN and I to explore together. He has a couple of year old notebook but not really a game machine.
