I think the recent changes ANet have made to the trait system are terrible. It’s made levelling characters more difficult as you have less trait (abilities?) at lower levels. They’ve reduced the amount of points you gain per level and made the whole thing top heavy. The changes to the UI are convoluted and confusing especially for new players. Really, it’s a bit of a mess. I thought the whole point of software patches/updates were to improve systems not make them worse?
Also I think destroying Lions Arch was a huge mistake. Why spend all that time/effort and resources on creating the main city in your game, possibly the most popular, visited city in your game and then destroy it?
It makes absolutely no sense to me.
I think GW2 is an excellent game and an amazing technical achievement.
I just hope they don’t go and fuck it all up with these unnecessary changes.
I like that things change in the world with or without my participation.
I’m not a fan of the change to the traits. I know that logically, they’ve just streamlined to the points that actually counted, but I agree that it makes it feel like everything was moved too far out from level 1.

For me it seems like a logical decision to increase the rewards for sticking with a character (and the game). Before the change, I felt like there was very little character progression of note past level 20 or so. Now that’s been reset and I’m running characters with an eye towards their future. A future that now includes a bit more to unlock than before.
As for the world change, I’m all for that as well. The feeling that nothing ever really changes in an MMORPG has always been a stumbling block to immersion for me with all other online games (at least the ones I’ve played).

You say that as if it’s never coming back. More than likely there will be a storyline that brings it back at some point. In the meantime, I love the fact that they’re not holding any part of the world as untouchable. Let folks use the racial cities and other stuff for a while. Keep them from settling too deep into comfort zones. Shake things up. Anything to keep the game from being stale.
As for the trait system, I haven’t played with it much, but I only have a single 80 as well and it didn’t feel that cumbersome. I’m sure it’s going to feel less rewarding leveling up, but on the other hand, it’ll be easier for folks who aren’t necessarily as familiar with these kinds of games.

I’ve been leveling a new character to experience what it’s like to level up under the new trait system. Some of the requirements to unlock certain traits are going to be quite vexing, but since you can unlock any of them with gold/skill points, that shouldn’t be too much of an issue. As for the lack of traits making leveling more difficult, I don’t buy that. I’ve been playing an engineer (the class that I’m probably the weakest at playing) and have had no real problems so far. That might change is I get into the upper 20s though as that would be where the lack of trait points is the most obvious.
I briefly logged on while LA was under siege but was heavily into another game at the time so I only caught a glimpse of that. A few days ago I logged on just to see devastated LA.
And I can say, I was actually … well, a teeny bit moved. I mean yeah, it’s just a videogame, and I’m not particularly fond of GW lore (which is why I pretty much stopped playing it after I’d gotten my Mesmer to cap). But still, it was haunting, because I have memories of LA as a jolly, colourful place, and here it was, destroyed, with drifting ash, etc. Very well done.
Yeah, I’m definitely in the camp of liking these kinds of changes.

Annoyingly, it seems I was hacked? I never recieved any emails about new computer locations, but my password was changed, and suddenly an authenticator was enabled?
Submitted a ticket, but don’t have the serial anymore, so thats a bit annoying.
This is for all the people that complained about Living World stuff constantly going away and how they’d miss it.

Hmm that says you have to log in during the vent to get permenant access. Our issue is mainly not playing for the pasy 6 months to a year, and we would like the play through the events you guys have already witnessed.
Seems pointless if you need to login to gain access.
I suspect they would get a lot of players back if they let all of us play all the content whenever we want.
You can pay to gain access to the stories you didn’t log in for – although it’s not clear if that includes season one, or just season two going forward.
The blog says Season One is not being added to the Journal for now. They hope to do so, but it may not happen.
Also, keep in mind that annual Festivals are not included in this. Those will remain temporary for the holiday they’re celebrating.
The festivals aren’t really story content, though. They’re just the usual sort of holiday thing that is fun for active players and generally irrelevant for those who aren’t actively playing.

What is the best way to play for someone who only played for an hour or so thus far (probably a year ago)? Would I start a new character (since I have no idea what I’m doing) and start playing my Personal Story? Then try to log in during the 2 week period so I can visit that content any time? I assume since once you have it unlocked it makes sense to play them in order. Thanks.
If you only played for an hour, you shouldn’t have made much progress anyway. You should be okay logging in with that character and just wandering.
Yep, logging in once every two weeks to grab the latest piece of living story is the way to go. No need to start a new character if you don’t want to.
Also, the story content (including the living story) is by far the worst part about Guild Wars 2. So I wouldn’t sweat it much.

If you played more than a year ago, then your character will have their one-year birthday present. That includes a one-time booster that instantly advances any character to level 20.
I’ve used some of the level to 20 boosts, but I’m not sure it’s a good idea unless you’ve already done the story quests on those characters, or you have a burning desire to skip the low level content. Going back and doing the story stuff up to 20 when you’re higher level does make them even easier, if that was ever an issue.

I’m weird, I kind of like a slow progression so I can get used to stuff. I would probably just start a new character because I have no idea how to play anymore.
The very beginning with a new character is terrible, because of the killz for skillz weapon mechanic. The combat doesn’t really open up until level 20. But I can understand wanting to go slow the first time.
