I agree. And recently, they made it even easier: there’s a compass at the top right that shows you the closest uncompleted task for map completion.

If you’re coming back after a long hiatus, find the lowest-level zone that isn’t 100% complete, follow the arrow, press “1” when you see a monster, and press “6” if you’re about to die. You’ll probably make decent progress even without using other skills or traits. And not only will you slowly be relearning the game, you’ll also be getting closer to owning a legendary weapon!

S02E09 releases today, remember to login to unlock it!

Its the reason I severely dislike the Living Story; I have tried a few times, noted in this thread, to pick this back up and just can’t get back into it at all. Its one of my favorite MMOs of all time; I just can’t find a place to get started playing again.

GW2 I thought was one of the best MMOs at launch. The excellent game systems combined with no subscription fee had me extremely excited to continue coming back to the game over the years. Unfortunately, they’ve added fuck-all that’s interested me since it’s released. It ended up being a huge let down for me, despite really enjoying my time with it when it first released.

Glad the Living Story seems to be working out for others, though! I’m jealous.

Seems like others really enjoy the Living Story stuff, so I’m glad it’s working out for some!

Rumors of an actual expansion, but no details aside from a trademark.

FWIW this should be episode 8 of season 2, and the “season finale” as it were. The timing would make sense for a full blown expansion to be on the horizon.

Yeah, they counted two releases as one in the middle somewhere. Our counts diverged there.

Whee. 5-10KB a second patching.

As always, the reminders are greatly appreciated!

Upcoming balance changes. Might getting a nerf, some cool buffs for Mesmers and I guess a bunch of changes for all of the other classes but they’re boring so who cares.

Also, big announcement Saturday morning at PAX and on Twitch. Probably an expansion or whatever GW2s version of an expansion is going to be.

I tried logging in this weekend. My highest character is like 42. It was a bit overwhelming as I had forgotten what everything did, but mostly because my bags are always full and I can’t figure out what to keep or throw away (bank is full too). But the biggest thing is that the game crashes on me every half-hour or so with a memory error of some sort. Just crashes to desktop and pops up an ArenaNet error report dialog box. Sort of robs me of any ambition to figure it out again.

That’s weird. When’s the last time you updated your video card drivers?

As far as what to keep: if your highest level character is 42 then the answer is probably just crafting mats and BLTC items. Click on the gear icon at the top right of your inventory panel and click Deposit Materials to put all of the crafting mats in your bag into storage. Keep one of each weapon you plan on using. Go to a vendor and click the sell junk button. For the rest of the gear in your bags: if it is an upgrade, equip it, otherwise just salvage it and Deposit Materials again. Use the basic salvage kits for everything until you start getting level 68+ rares and above, which you should either sell or salvage with the highest level salvaging kit you can get (mostly because they have a chance of giving you Globs of Ectoplasm, which you can either save towards making a legendary or sell).

It’s almost never worth holding on to gear that isn’t a level 80 exotic. Also, the game doesn’t delete quest items even if you finish the quest so if anything is marked as a quest item you can probably throw those out. The only things remaining at this point are probably consumables and BLTC items. That’s the kind of thing I usually use my bank for. Oh, and sigils. This game loves some sigils. You can either save them up and dump them into the Mystic Portal four at a time in the hopes of getting one of the fancy sigils people will pay money for or you can sell them for a few silver. Sometimes I’m too lazy to even put them on the TP and just sell a bunch to a vendor because the damn things take up so much space.

That should pretty much clear out your bags. Also, maybe buy some bigger bags from the TP if you can afford them. At the very least get a 10 slot bag for every inventory slot you have open.

If you’re concerned that you might have something valuable in your inventory but don’t want to check every item’s selling price there’s a pretty convenient Sell Items tab on the TP. It shows your entire inventory and what the current best buy order is. You can even sort it by price to quickly see what might be worth selling.

I keep my drivers updated. NVIDIA Experience thingy nags me about it. No idea why the game hates me that way. Thanks for the other tips though–I’ve freed up some space that way.

Heads up!

We now know the expansion will be called “Heart of Thorns” but no word on pricing and exactly what it will entail.

The GW2 client will be on sale this weekend for $9.99 to celebrate the expansion unveiling.

Was just coming here to post that. $10 for GW2 is an amazing deal.

Finally hit my price point! Yay!

You got the deal of the decade there, man.

No kidding. On a price to content ratio, GW2 is amazing even for $40. At $10, it’s crazy.

I’m really excited to see the expansion.

So am I. Look for me in-game - I’m in the Sanctum of Rall server. My main is called Watchman Lee.
