My plan is to level up strictly by doing WvW with either a Ranger or Necromancer. Going to try and roll with the Gamebreaker crew on Darkhaven.
Can’t wait to see what this new PVP dungeon is all about. :D
The impression I got is that you don’t get the hero band, whatever that is. You definitely do get the 3 day headstart and beta weekends though.
Access to BWE was never exclusive to ArenaNet “pre-buyers”. It was guaranteed to them, meaning that they will get it for sure while other people may or may not.
Internet is stupid. I, for one, think, all those stupid things are not posted by real people. IMO Internet gained self-awareness and generates these posts by itself now and they are stupid because he is young. Just wait a few years.

Thanks everyone. I can confirm that I just preordered copies for my wife and I through Amazon and received our early access codes right after. I registered with the GW2 site using the code and immediately the BWE email for downloading the client.

I’m in! It’s live. I’m on Ferguson’s Crossing. Did they optimize it for AMD/ATI GPUs instead of being entirely CPU-bound like last BWE?
Not yet. Still running mostly on the CPU at the moment.
In case you didn’t see it, everyone was given 500 gems for free for the beta weekend. And if you enter your credit card info to test their purchase system (you put in the info, “purchase” the gems, and are charged $1 which is refunded to you) you can get 2000 more. I know people are leery of putting their credit card info into things like this, but I’ve done the credit card thing before and no spurious charges have appeared.
These gems are only good for the beta weekend, but it can be fun to fiddle around with them to see what the purchasable items can do (fr’instance, I bought a top hat and a transmutation stone last time, thinking "ah, now I can have a cool looking hat when I’m adventuring - and then I found out the hat was a costume piece only, so you can’t wear it in the field).
It’s been a frustrating (WvW) experience so far for me. I wasn’t able to make a character on Darkhaven because it’s full, so I had to make one on a new server (Frost Gate) and for a reason I cannot comprehend, they paired two new servers with an old server (Yak’s Bend). Almost ALL of the WvW maps are red and they’re currently kicking us out of our home map. The other server can’t even get ONE point.
I really hope Anet fixes this because it’s pointless to even play WvW right now, which was what I was hoping to do this weekend.
EDIT: Just transferred to Sorrow’s Furnace, a High pop server, so we’ll see how that goes.

Okay, I think I won’t be playing WvW much after all. It simply is NOT a viable way of leveling compared to PVE in its current state. I gained a grand total of about ONE level in an hour of play. I think some of it is due to so much downtime traveling between location to location because the maps are so damn big, but I don’t mind that so much. Leveling up weapons is another issue that takes much longer than PVE as well. And the massive FPS drops in massive battles is a big turn off too. sigh I really wish they’d hurry up and optimize it already.
As for classes, the Necromancer and Ranger both suck. The Necromancer because the abilities are so uninteresting IMO. They aren’t very flashy and it doesn’t really feel like you’re doing much with them. Very boring class to me.
The Ranger was better with its abilities, but what the hell is with your stupid ass pet dying all the time!? It’s still useless because every time I glance over at him he’s dead, even when I turn on passive mode. I just can’t play this class right now when half its utility is broken.
I just created a warrior and am liking it SOOO much better already. It feels visceral when I jump on top of an enemy and slice at them and I can always hang back and shoot them with my rifle, which I LOVE by the way.

Even with pets dying all the time, Rangers are goddamn awesome. Amazing set of abilities and great fun. Pick bears if you want survivability, but I had lots of success with ranged pets (spiders, devourers).
Maybe that explains it then because I picked a wolf. Do the pets automatically use their special abilities or do you have to use it for them?

You have to use it for them. It’s F2 by default.
Necromancer is awesome, especially in pvp
