Well if the game falls in price over time wouldn’t it be cheaper to purchase a second copy at a discounted price and have 5 more slots?

I ended up giving Bioware $120 all told to play SWTOR for four months, and I’ve effectively got nothing to show for it now.
I’m absolutely fine paying ANet $60 and kicking in another $20-$30 in another four months if I’m still really digging the game and want to roll my 6th, 7th, or 8th character.
5 Characters Slots gives you 1 for each race, which means with the purchase of the game you can play through all 5 stories without having to delete your characters. You can say it was chosen that way to drive sales of more slots, but I think it fits their stated philosophy.
One of the major draws of the cash shop are these one-time use items that let you transmute two items such that you can take any piece of gear you have and make it look like any other piece of gear for the same slot that you have. This is their solution to letting you customize your look - if you get something that you think looks badass you can better gear you get later look like it without giving up any stats or benefits along the way. This isn’t necessary to play the game, but it’s an example of what they’re trying to do with their cash shop.
I never said it was unfair. I was going by their stated intent that the purchase price of the game should be what players need to enjoy it and they needn’t purchase anything else. I don’t think it’s a stretch to say that the purchase of the game could include enough character slots for each character type. If five character slots is half the character types and new character slots are $10 each, that’s getting a bit pricey just to play each character class.
And as I said this is a mild complaint. It’s not an accusation of anything unfair. I don’t think they are being misleading or deceptive. I’m not sure their stated intentions match what they are delivering.
Well I guess it gives you enough slots to roll one of each race.

Other than the retarded ramps for finding the main quest locations I found the Charr city the easiest to navigate. It’s one of the only cities where the bank and the craft area are right beside each other. Of course all the other cities have teleports in right near the bank and the trade area so it’s a minor bonus. You did notice that the in city teleports are free right?
Yeah, they’re free. I used the teleport by the Human bank and crafting areas to pop back and forth easily.
The Charr city may be easy to navigate, but as I said, whenever I pulled up the map in trying to get from X to Y I always found myself running around a corner and hitting a dead end (that was probably when I was exploring it or trying to get the points of interest there). I suspect it’s one of those things like thinking Ironforge in WoW is confusing - once you suss the layout, it’s fine.

I went to the page and it said here’s your key (and provided one) right above it saying the giveaway has ended. Hmm.
My country is not allowed in the giveaway :(
fyi, GreenManGaming has Guild Wars 2 keys again, and they have a new promo just for today where you can get a 20% off code when you obtain their free game. See the Bargain Thread for more info.
Not as good as this past weekend’s 25% off sale, but still pretty good, and getting the game from GMG means you will get access to next week’s beta weekend and 3 day launch headstart.

Man, I want everything in that except the stupid statue, and I’m sure that’s what’s inflating that to the ridiculous price of $150. :(
I really want to save trying out the Asura and Sylvari areas for launch. Something to look forward to.
One of the legendary weapons is a shortbow that shoots fucking rainbows. OH. MY. GOD. :D
Colin Johanson and Eric Flannum were just on Twitch.tv explaining how the endgame will work.
PVE endgame sounds a lot like WvWvW (there’s no actual PVP that I’m aware of). It takes place in this massive area of Orr where players will be vying to control different points and then once they can take and hold enough nodes from the dragon, it’ll open up a dungeon they can run. They said the area will blow you away visually.
You will also continue to earn XP after you hit 80. So each “level” after that will give you another skill point to fill out your abilities.
Legendary weapons will ALL have the same stats as normal endgame weapons, but will look WAY cooler. Some can also combine with other legendary weapons to create even more cool-looking weapons. Apparently getting a legendary weapon will represent “mastery” in a particular area in a game, like PVE or PVP.
They also talked about how that the better that the game sells, the bigger the live team will be and the more content they will add.
Holiday events CONFIRMED. :D
Dynamic events will turn into what they call event webs, as opposed to chains and single-shot events, as you progress further into the game. They specifically talked about Orr being this massive web of dynamic events branching out in all directions. Sounded really epic. :D
I don’t understand the PvE end game part. How are you vying for control points? Through PvP? So it’s like Darkness Falls in DAOC? I thought at some point the devs said they won’t have anything like DF at launch?

I have been playing mmo’s well maybe not all that long- since 2005. I started with WoW and did quite a few others since then. I am still subbed to WoW and I am eagerly awaiting my pandas BUT, I think GW2 is finally the game I have wanted to play. It is combining all of the good points of all the mmo’s I have played into one potentially perfect package.
Top notch graphics, a fantastic “questing” method, dynamic and world events, painless grouping, an end game that is actually worth while to play and lots and lots of content.
Eh maybe I am putting too much pressure on this being good but from playing the betas and reading bits like Nephrinn posted, I think my excitement is justified.
Sorry, I didn’t explain it well. It’s basically the players versus the forces of Zaitan or however you spell it, that big dragon. So, there will be a “storming the beaches” part where there will be different paths to getting a foothold in Orr, launching golems, submarines, and so on. And then the players will get to the part where there are these major and minor god temples that they have to try and control to get access to the dungeon. Holding them will make it easier for everyone on the server to progress through the area. There’s no actual PVP, but maybe we’ll see something like we’ve seen in the betas where if you die, you have to fight for the forces of Zaitan. Not sure how that would work though.
Alienware is doing a giveaway for about 1200 GW2 beta keys. Today’s batch might have run out already, as last I checked it was down to 100 beta keys left. They are going to do another run on July 14th and July 15th. I believe you have to make a free account to get the key.
Here is the link with more information such as times and such:

So, I have a “beta key” from the curse giveaway, even though the page also said it had already run out. I checked the page again today, and sure enough, no key is listed. So I may have lucked out and gotten one by accident. Is there anyway to find out if this key is legit before downloading 15gig of client, just to find out that I’m not that lucky?
Answering my own question: https://register.guildwars2.com/ is the site, and I’m not that lucky :( Says the code is already registered. Sad face.
