Heh, I put 350 hours into Rift. At the time you could argue that IT had no real endgame but lots of ongoing dynamic events.
If I get 350 hours out of GW2 with no monthly fee, shit, I am a happy camper. That said I am not ruling out that I am way to easily amused but after actually playing the game, I am not too worried.

Quite happy to be corrected, thanks!
I think the problem is that for many people Endgame = Gear Grind + Raids / Elite Areas and, afaik, GW2 won’t be like that.
I’m very glad since I HATE raids
You will, of course, pay for that new content, since the game has no subscription fee. Which is perfectly fine.
I liked raids, a lot actually. But they have all sort of problems like:
- you need a set number of people to do them. If you are in a smaller guild and someone can’t attend or is late, you’re screwed.
- if in the middle of the raid someone has to leave, you’re screwed.
- spending several days/weeks progressing on a boss fights and then someone has to take a break because of … life (usually that’s me :( )
- the fucking heroic grind for gear
- the stupid gear drops
- TEH DRAMA
I put up with most of that stuff because of the people i played with but good fucking riddance to all that.
I wanted to clear this up, you won’t actually have to pay for the stuff we were talking about in that video. Of course you could argue that buying things in the gemstore is in effect paying for it but you absolutely don’t have to do it. The game will also eventually have larger paid expansions (as I think just about every MMO does) but there is going to be a lot of free content added to the game post launch.
You’ll pay for some of it, but GW1 put out a bunch of free content and I’d be very surprised if GW2 isn’t the same.

Cool to hear. I finally took a look at the gem store, and was very pleased with what I saw. Lots of nice-to-haves, but nothing that was outright must-have to play the same game as everyone else. I know that is stating the obvious, but so many games claim that they’ll do the same and then fall short. Granted, things change over time but it is an encouraging start :)
1,457 hours into Rift and still going… The people you play with really do make a difference in MMOs.
I am looking forward to the Orr zone you and Colin mentioned in the video. It is the type of world content that I believe is sorely lacking in other MMO’s.
Maybe we need to ban the term “endgame”. It always seems to have a negative connotation with MMO’s. Let’s call it “continually developed content”. ;)

when is the next weekend?
Let’s trade. I get to take the family beach trip to Oregon and you get to play the game.
I have no expectations for this game. I haven’t been following any of the news or hype. I think I seen all of one trailer. I hope it’s as good it seems to be. It can’t be any worse than SWTOR. All I really like doing in MMOs is exploring the world and PvP. So if it has those two items I’ll be happy.

That’s not fair. Not everybody speaks En… Wait! He’s from Atlanta?
…and never talks like that in posts, either.
Maybe he forgot to log in as Teiman to post that.
The guy makes an awesome Firefly reference, and nobody gets it?
Sigh, what is this board coming too.
Ah, that’s what that was?
Only seen the pilot of Firefly. I hear it’s good, but spaceships are kinda not my thing at all.
Back to the Guild Wars!
