Gwent: The Witcher Card Game

I went back for you all. It’s actually the same design as the release trailer. I guess the CGI crew does it their own way.

It’s a fine game, but I already starting to get tired of the F2P model. I think I’ve opened 6 packs in 5 days and I didn’t get any especially relevant or interesting card, most of them were duplicates. And it isn’t like I have already most of the cards.

New update for GWENT: The Witcher Card Game now available on PC, Xbox One and PS4.
With this update, our main focus is to improve balance, solve some of the major issues that were affecting gameplay and adjust the prices for milling common and rare cards. Additionally, some cards will be subject to a limited-time refund (5 days) in the form of an increase in the amount of Scraps awarded for milling them (note, however, that milling the Premium versions of these cards will not award Meteorite Powder):

Fixed issue with Nithral’s armor displaying an incorrect value (3 instead of 2).
Updated Vrihedd Brigade’s tooltip to match its ability.
Fixed the issue whereby Disloyal Agile Units (e.g. Letho of Gulet) couldn’t be played on rows other than Melee.
Sheldon Skaggs’ ability fixed to reflect his tooltip (he Boosts instead of Strengthening).
Fixed Dwarven Skirmisher’s tooltip to match his ability.
Fixed an issue whereby Ambassador would Boost Units by 12 instead of 10 when activated by Vicovaro Novice.
Fixed an issue whereby Meteorite Powder would be consumed when replaying the Card Crafting tutorial.
Fixed an issue with milling Clan Brokvar Archer x4.
Fixed an issue with King Bran’s carousel displaying the wrong number of cards to discard.
Fixed the issue with Lord of Undvik being present in Dagon’s deck in challenges.
Fixed an issue whereby changing the console language on PS4 before signing in would result in the game getting stuck on “Inventory loaded.”
First King Bran and Dagon challenges should now launch properly.
Fixed an issue whereby Daerlan Foot Soldiers wouldn’t draw a card if they were killed with Morenn or Savage Bear.
Fixed an issue with connecting during sign in resulting in a “Service interrupted. Please verify your connection.” error.
Fixed an issue whereby the Collection would show some resources gained from milling when no spare cards to mill were available.
Fixed improper descriptions of Assire var Anahid’s and Nenneke’s carousels.
Fixed an issue with some cards becoming invisible.
Fixed an issue with transmuted Premium triptych cards always showing up as the first one from the left.
Fixed an issue causing Out of Sync errors during multiplayer matches.
Fixed an issue whereby users were forced to change game language both in GOG and later in-game.
Fixed an issue that would sometimes cause the game to get stuck after Round 2.
Numerous tooltip fixes and improvements.

New Scraps award values for milling cards of the following rarities:
Common - 10 Scraps
Premium Common - 10 Scraps
Rare - 20 Scraps
Premium Rare - 20 Scraps"
Scraps Awards for Purchased Kegs
Players who purchased Card Kegs with real money will be awarded 30 Scraps for each Keg bought.

Almost 50 hours played! I think the game in now my most played card game. In particular this has been the first time I got addicted to the ranked mode, fighting for a better rank.

That said, I’m going to put it on hold for a few days, until the next patch hit. The meta is stale right now.
There is a livestream coming next Monday, so maybe it will come in a week.

Not bad, if I can say to myself! The important number is the 18, that’s the rank, from playing Ranked. Right now I’m the #15255 player in the global leaderboard.

Now that’s more my jam. Meve is a minor but memorable character from the books, looking forward to seeing how they expand her.

Have they abandoned the one campaign per faction idea?

We don’t know. This is what’s announced, for now (lifted from Reddit)

  1. End of this Season on August 27th
  2. Patch releases in the following days.
  3. Seasonal Event “Mahakam Ale Festivale” will certainly mirrors the Oktoberfest, which starts on September 16th and ends on October 3rd. So we may expect the event to take place close to these dates.
    This should lead us to the end of Season 2 of Open Beta at the end of October (if Season 2 is not like Season 1 and lasts 2 months of course)

Now the features that directly impact the Ranked/Tournaments and thus will certainly be implemented between two seasons are :
-New Leaders for existing factions, certainly along a bunch of cards to go with them.
-New Solo Adventure: Thronebreaker, coming with 20 cards for Multiplayer.
-New Faction: Some time (maybe season(s)) after Thronebreaker.

The last feature that is also coming, but would not impact the Ranked Play/Tournaments and thus may be implemented during a Season is the New Game Mode.

Hi. So: GWENT.

Does anyone know if this is a LEGIT good card game? I played the version contained in The Witcher 3 and found it very simplistic, but I heard that’s been overhauled for the standalone release.

I would love to get into a card game right now, and I love the Witcher. But is this worth the time?

Perhaps wait till the damn thing is actually done… Its still Early Access.

It’s a real good game.

The game is so overhauled it has lost most of the common points with the original Gwent, to be honest. 98% of the cards have a special ability, they are divided in bronze/silver/gold categories, how they are placed in the table is different, how weather works is different, how leaders work is different, there is a wounding mechanic to damage cards, and well, a long etc.

I wouldn’t call it ‘Early Access’, waiting until it’s ‘done’ is foolish, this is a ‘Game as a Service’ and it will be always being developed and changed regularly. It will never be ‘done’.
It’s in open beta, the game already have defined seasons, the second one has already started (I finished in Rank 18 in the first one).

Gwent card art

Gwent is by everyone’s impression amazing, but personally I will wait for singleplayer campaigns. I do not want to get addicted to this.

Man, players are really not okay with this Midwinter Update. Over 100 new cards, but old cards have been nerfed or “dumbed down” and flavor text has been removed from a lot of the game.

Yeah, definitely some backlash going on. I only play a little, as I’m also waiting to see what the single-player is like, but even in the dabbling I do, the irritation of many players is palpable.
