Okay, I just don’t see how you cannot watch the following video and not be impressed to hell at just how seamless it is. As crappy as the video is (camcorder fanboy at E3), it still floors me.
That’s pretty awesome.
Pretty nice, can’t wait for this to come out so I can play it on the Xbox in the lounge here at work :)
Impressive. Got a release date for it?
Holy shit that gave me goosebumps. I think the crowd cheering was a nice touch.

doh… i downloaded this, but when i open the file I only get sound… is there a codec i need todownload?
Load it in WMPlayer and it should autoDL form the Microsoft Site.
I did… and thats where I only got sound. I ran the ‘check for player updates’ in media player and still no dice.
I had media player 8 on the machine though - I just connected to windows update and downloading media player 9 now in hopes it will work with that.
I’m using WMP 9 so that’ll probably fix it.
Looks like the link is dead now. Anyone have the ability to put up a mirror?

The video is available at IGN or Gamespot. I got it from IGN and it wasn’t shaky cam at all. It was solid and steady.

I must have grabbed it just before it died. I did finally get it to work in WMP9… and wow is that bad ass :) Now I only have to wait 3 more years for it to show up on the PC without co-op play!
The usual term of “Shaky Cam” is applied to anything that’s captured via camcorder instead of direct copy of source material - in which case the vids at IGN (and the one above that doesn’t work) are Skaky Cams.
In fact the vid above and the IGN one are the same exact things - the IGN has slightly better sound but is 3x the size and in the crap ass Quicktime Format.
Uh…what’s wrong with Quicktime? I prefer it.
–Dave
It’s bloated (30mb vs 90mb for same quality in this example), it makes annoying pop ups, and it likes to install it’s own sys tray software like Real Media.
quicktime sucks for a variety of reasons
you have to pay for basic features like a ‘real’ full screen mode, and the ability to save a movie froma web page
the format has a larger file size for less quality than other popular formats like divx or even mpeg.
the quicktime player itself is far more cpu intensive on a PC than any other player/codec, causing frame droppage that doesn’t occur at the same quality/resolution using other players/codecs.
The vid was good but I’m taken aback by the overwhelming response. I’d say that it demonstrates the next logical step the series should take and displays nothing extremely out of the ordinary. The coolest part was overtaking the ghost but I’d imagine that sort of ‘feature’ wouldn’t be difficult to implement.
Seems like Bungie is finally adding more ‘scripted events’ which Half Life introduced so many years ago.
Having said that, as long as they improve the level variety and implement a good multiplayer component, it’ll defintely be one of the best FPS’ of 2004. I’ve held off buying Live until this sucker gets closer to release.
Yeah, the scripting really seemed like the star of the show to me, but I don’t think that’s a bad thing. There is a lot to be said for open-ended gameplay and exploration, and some games, like GTA do that well. Personally though, I really get immersed in games that make me feel like I’m part of a larger battle. I like to see tons of stuff going on around me, independent of my own actions. Normandy beach in MoH did this really well. So did the original Halo, from what few levels I played of it. This seems to take that to the next level. I can definitely see diminished replay value in seeing the same scripted sequence every time, but that initial experience is worth it.
It’s alright if they aren’t ripping control out of your hands a lot. In a FPS, it makes sense to never, ever take control away from the player.
I still say the whole movie is done with bot control and not someone actually playing it at all. It’s way too “perfect”.
