now doesn’t it sound like Gearbox are a bunch of lazy bastards? Give me lan/coop with HAlo PC JUST LIKE THE DAMN XBOX VERSION I DONT EVEN WANT SPLIT SCREEN WHICH SERIOUS SAM EVEN HAS YOU SUCK GEARBOX!!!
Other than that, I don’t want to have to download some frikkin mod to play coop. I want the same damn game that was on xbox! Its a port its supposed to be like that!
Co-op on the same machine would be the same as on the Xbox and that would be pointless for a PC. Can you play co-op Halo via network on an Xbox? I played networked Halo a few times but I don’t recall a co-op option.
Yeah, so mtkafka is ranting about a feature that was never there to begin with. It would be a nice addition for sure but it was never in the original game.
I dont care if it cant be cooped on lan on xbox… i mean its a friggin console. My point is coop Halo PC thru lan should be doable. I see no reason why it would be a monumental effort. Ok, so I’m not a programmer etc, but cmon, this is a feature that rocked on xbox (split screen). Taking it out just makes the game less good. Plus the new multi stuff doesnt sound like much… more like mod stuff (oooh 6 new maps and a damn ship). Plus the graphics dont look at all that much better.
Hopefully they get it in, but based on that article it sounds like they won’t… they say ‘top priority’ which to me means maybe in a patch… if ever.
That would suck! The only reason I would ever even consider buying Halo again would be the inclusion of co-op playable over a LAN! Hope they get it in somehow. This is something Ive been dreaming about since the game came out.
halo solo play = decent
halo competitive multiplayer = decent
halo co-op = kick ass!
for me, co-op was the whole point of halo, and most of the time i’ve spent playing on my friend’s x-box was doing this. The whole reason I was waiting for this game to finally come to PC was to be able to fire up some Halo co-op on our LAN or find a pick-up game online. Halo PC with no co-op = burn & return.
Ah, co-op. There’s nothing like shooting your buddy in the bac… er, providing covering fire.
Seriously though, I wish more games had co-op modes. What’s fun as a single player experience is amplified by being able to share that experience with friends. Competitive play is fine, but often lacks the camraderie. Team play kind of makes up for it, but unless there are bots, it requires that you have enough people playing at the same time.
That said, I hope Gearbox has time to put in co-op, but sadly, gameplay enhancements usually take a backseat to visual flair and things like adding yet another gun to the game. smirk
Actually one of our favorite tactics in co-op was pistolwhipping each other in the back of the head before a difficult room, to ensure that we would both have respawned with full health before going in. that way there would be less chance of us both dying, which was what made you start the area over.
Ahh…abuse of the system, how sweet it is.
Of course, sometimes pistolwhipping your buddy in the back of the head is it’s own reward…
They should’ve planned this from day one but whatever…
"To get Internet play working properly for the PC, Gearbox had to rebuild Halo’s networking architecture from the ground up – completely separate from the single-player game. To add co-op support properly, it “would be a year of work for three engineers,” says Pitchford, personnel they don’t currently have, not to mention having the potential to break other parts of the game in the process.
So for now, Gearbox is looking for an alternative means of adding co-op support to Halo, something they can implement easily and won’t run the risk of causing any bugs in the process. “It’s high on our list,” says Pitchford, “I wouldn’t rule it out, but can’t promise it.” "
It’s really a shame. What made Halo a great game for me was playing it with a friend in co-op mode (that’s what consoles are all about, right?) We had a great deal of fun, and in fact I convinced him to buy an Xbox after we’d played through Halo in the hope that there would be similar fun games with Coop (which, with the exception of Ghost Recon, we really haven’t seen yet).
As a single player FPS, I could never get into Halo – the controller sucks compared to a keyboard, gameplay is really slow compared to a PC FPS, and it just doesn’t have the graphical oomph (hell, I think the graphics in Red Faction are better than those in Halo!) Maybe the PC version will be a whole lot better than the original, but it seems to me that most of the stuff Halo is expected to do well on has already been done by BF1942, OFP, etc. – and was probably done better.
Also, as long as I’m thinking about Gearbox, does anyone have the inside story on why they were booted off CS: Condition Zero? It doesn’t seem to bode well for Halo that they lost CS:CZ but picked up Halo…
Gearbox made the coaster of the year last year…James Bond 007: Nightfire for PC. Maybe they’re not as good as people were led to believe after Opposing Force?
It just amazes me that coop over network wasn’t in the original port design document – or at the very least, they could have left the split-screen mode in…
